Brooke smiled, she could tell a blatant flattery when she saw one but in the society she had come from they were totally normal and it wasn't like it was anything Brooke hadn't already known. She was mentally making a list of things to have her mother collect and send her, of course she would make a couple of trips to London herself but their were somethings that she didn't need to pick up herself. "Of course you'll be amazing now just concentrate on not getting killed before then...you never did answer my defensive spell question."

"Several," Gabby said. She paused to think, "Actually here," Gabby pulled out her wand and using it, made a dusty, old book appear with a pop in front of her, Gabby smiled. Gabby handed it over to Brooke. "this rather old book belonged to my grandmother. I haven't had time to read all of it since I only got it recently," a lump formed in Gabby's throat but she forced it down to carry on talking. "But she was a pretty food witch and she complied this list of spells, kinxes hexes curses, everything I think, there's even a few of her won in there." Gabby held her breath. The last time these spells had been used it had started all the trouble between herself and the slytherin girls. But Gabby knew that her grandmother did have some useful spells in that book and she hoped that Brooke would agree with her. Her grandmother's death still fresh in her mind, Gabby was fiercly protective over her grandmother's memory and wouldn't stand for insults.

It was the first thing that Gabby had said that actually shocked Brooke, Though she didn't show it. Her fingers touched the cover of the book delicately before opening it and scanning through the pages. "You mean you had this and you still can't hold your own in a fight. What were you thinking?" Was the girl just stupid or something, Brooke hoped not it would make life a whole lot less interesting.
She continued to flip through the book a bored expression still on her face but her mind busy, most of them were spells she already knew but it was still a treasure and yet for some reason Gabby didn't fight back, the other girls would be using everything their family had ever taught them and the only time that Brooke was in favor of uneven footing was when it worked for her.

"I wasn't." Gabby almost snapped. "My grandmother only died two months ago. I was devastated, I stayed at home and I didn't do anything except ride Rain." Gabby knew that sounded odd, but she couldn't be bothered to explain at the moment. "Since I returned to school, I've been so busy and in and out of the hospital wing, I haven't had a chance to read." Gabby stopped, she had to learn to control her temper, especially because it normally landed her in situations where the other person won.

Brooke still didn't understand Gabby's reasoning, especially when what were hospital wings for if not for the time needed to study. But then again Brooke was dedicated to being the best. She had always been that way, she knew she had friends who might even compare her to certain world dictators. As it was while Brooke may not care about some of her classes she was dedicated to the study of spells especially the ones that could be used in combat. Fighting for her held the same place as competitive sports, she had to win. "Well you sure as hell are going to study it now." Was all she said to Gabby her voice commanding.

"I know, i know," Gabby said, with a sigh. "Planning any other improvements?" Gabby asked, carefully changing the subject slightly, she was intrigues to know what Brooke thought was needed compared to Gabby's own point of view.

"Other then the obvious?" Brooke said still not really getting over Gabby's lack of common sense or maybe it was her just being naive. Either way Brooke didn't like how Gabby had changed the subject but realized that her answer still wasn't appropriate. "You'll see in good time."

Gabby sighed, it sounded like she had a lot of work to do. She stifled a yawn, all her visits to the hospital wing had mucked up her sleep and gabby really felt in need of some rest. "Brooke, do you mind if I go back up to the castle, I'm still recovering from my last run in with those damn slytherins." Gaby said, her voice edged with bitterness. She picked her book up from in front of Brooke, hugging it in her her arms.

"You are excused." Brooke said simply the bored tone of it having returned completely. In one graceful movement she stood up and looked down at Gabby, "don't forget to study." And with that she walked over to the counter paid the tab for both their drinks and walked to the door at which point she paused and threw back a smile "Your not so bad."

Gabby returned her smile with a half hearted one of her own. Gabby stood up a sigh escaping her. Her head throbbing slightly, she slowly left the pub and made her way back to the castle.
