Layne popped a bubble of gum, and the sound had been louder than she expected. It echoed throughout the platform, turning heads to give her an annoyed look. She stopped the bubbles for now. Goodness, people were cranky in the morning! She checked the nearest clock, it was only nine! That meant though, that she had officially been waiting for twenty minutes for the train. It wasn't due for another ten though. Oh well, she had been excited when she found out her friend Jory would be arriving today! So excited that she had come a half an hour early just in case the train was early too.
In preparation, Layne had bought two steaming cups of coffee for when he arrived. It was nine after all, who wouldn't be in need of coffee? She had already finished hers when she had put the gum back in.
About four minutes later, the track began to shake and the rumble of the train was getting louder. Layne grinned and stood up, coffee in hand for him. The train arrived with the final toot toot and the doors opened. Scanning across the number of people getting out, she mentally cursed her shortness. So, she decided to stand on the bench to see if she could see Jory any better from higher.

Jory was nervous. He was incredibly nervous. But he was also excited. He hadn't seen Layne in months, not since Christmas, because he had stayed at school over the summer. But now he was here, and she was supposed to be waiting on him. He had a roll of parchment clenched in one hand, and he had been instructed to leave his trunk on the train. He had been so excited when he got the owl back from Lyric and had spent so much time on the train, and before, reading it over and over to try to get any hidden meaning out of it.
A broad smile spread over his lips when he saw tiny Layne standing on the bench and Jory started trying to push through the crowd to get to her. "Layne!" he called when he thought he was close enough. It had been too long since he had seen her, he was so excited. He got so lonely at school, and so during the breaks he had spent as much time as he could with Layne and the few others that lived close by.

Layne was almost getting nervous when she still couldn't find Jory through all the people. It wasn't until she heard her name and saw him that she grinned as wide as her mouth could go. "Jory!" She hopped off the bench, careful to not spill the coffee, put the coffee down, and gave her friend a hug! "You're finally here! How was the trip?" She asked, picking up the coffee again, "And, I didn't know if you'd need this or not, but if you need some caffeine this coffee is amazing."

Jory smiled after pulling away after the hug and took the coffee, "Thanks, it's great to see you. My trip was good, a little nervewracking, but I survived." Layne didn't know about Lyric yet, but Jory thought it could wait a few minutes, at least. He took a long sip of the coffee, nodding in appreciation. "It feels like it's been forever since I've seen you," he said, "How've you been?"

"It has been forever since I've seen you," Layne agreed, then added, "Or at least, way too long! And, I've been pretty good. Just preparing for term and whatnot." She sized up Jory. After not seeing him in a while he had defintely grown. So not fair! He was already tall enough, couldn't he share his height? She looked back up at him, "How about you? What's new?" In the past few weeks all she had heard was that he was no longer going to attend MI and he would be at Hogwarts. As happy as that made her, she wondered why the sudden switch. Well, she figured she'd ask later. Unlike those holiday weekends, she had a lot longer then a few days before he left, she now had unlimited Jory time!

"Well," Jory said, debating. He didn't want to bring up Lyric just yet. "I finally got this," he decided on, pointing up to the curve of his left ear where a silver hoop hung from a slightly reddened new piercing. "Mum let me get it in between MI and here, I changed it way too early but I think it'll be okay." He didn't see why he should keep the ugly gold post in for eight weeks, anyway. He was slowly whittling down his list of piercings, and he already had the tattoo he had always wanted.

"Nice. But, the reason they say to change it after six to eight weeks is so that it doesn't get infected. It's already a bit red so you better be using that cleaning stuff on it. If it gets infected you are going to be miserable." Layne stopped herself from her lecture. She didn't even have her ears pierced yet, all she knew is what she learned from the books. Pausing for a sec, she continued chewing her gum then said, "It does look good though. What's next after this one?" She smiled and cocked her head to the side, "You can get anything except for the one that goes on the bridge of your nose. Those look disgusting. You're much to handsome for that."

Jory had waved off Layne's concern for his ear, he had yet to get an infection and he didn't plan on letting it get bad. Besides, a hoop was so much easier to clean that a stud that had big flat parts on both side. He wrinkled his nose at that, "No, I'm not getting one of those. I want my eyebrow done, next, though....or my belly button." But he couldn't see his mum letting him get his belly button pierced, it was probably just a little too far for her tastes. She was the reason his tat was on his shoulder and not on his hip or chest.

"I could see that for the eyebrow," Layne said, picturing it in her mind, "If you got like an orange stud or something, it would make your eyes pop out even more. How cool would that be!" Okay, so maybe that might only be cool to her, but whatever. She was still unsure if she was even allowed to get her ears pierced since she hadn't asked in a long time, but she was happy experiencing it vicariously through him. And then the stomach idea...personally, she loved it.

Jory wanted a couple more, but he didn't think he could tell Layne what they were, at least not now, she could probably guess he wanted to get his ears pierced again. "Maybe, maybe I'll take you with me to get that one," he said. "I've heard the eyebrow one bleeds, though." He wasn't looking forward to that, but it would be worth it. "Maybe we can get your ears pierced, too," he teased, nudging her lightly with his elbow.

Layne made a face, "If there's blood I'll go, but you'd better make it worth my time. And as for my ears, good luck trying to get Keiko to agree with it." As far as names go, it was unusual to call her mother the normal things such as mother, or the Korean word for mother, Omma. Instead, they were on a very good first name basis at the Razz household. It made things easier that way. Of course, even in a house that seemed untraditional, piercings had been an iffy subject.

"Of course it'll be worth it," Jory said, "Besides, once you're seventeen you can do whatever." He went to put the letter in his pocket, but he chewed his lip as he looked at it and then looked over at Layne. "So I guess I should tell you why I moved here." How lame would she think it was that he had moved because of a guy? Well...that wasn't technically true, but if he hadn't met Lyric than he would still be at MI.

Layne thought about that, "I like the way you think Jory," she said finally. Seventeen seemed like a long way away though. Oh well, a lot could happen in three years. When Jory said the next thing, Layne refocused her attention back to him, "Yeah. I'm clueless over here. I thought you were really happy there." She had heard rumors that a few others from that school had switched, had something really bad happened?

Jory shrugged, he couldn't exactly say he had been happy, but he had been comfortable. "Well everything was fine, but then this guy came, named Lyric," he shook his head. "I mean, well, Trent, he goes by Trent. He had this wild hair and everything. He was really cool, we talked a few times." And then there had been that weird owl from the headmistress... He didn't look at Layne, but she had known immediately the last time he had had the quick summer fling with his friend. He was under no delusion that she wouldn't guess just as quickly this time.

Layne raised a worried eyebrow. She was totally fine with him liking this guy, but this was a big move. And just because of a him? What if this Lyric wasn't worth it? What if things changed? She didn't want her friend to be unhappy. But, she had always been supportive and the what ifs weren't going to make that any different. She put on a teasing pout, "And here I thought you had come just to be closer to me." She elbowed him softly, "Seriously though, I guess that's pretty cool. As long as you are sure you made the right decision?"
