Ariel nodded, though Markise couldn't see him. He wondered if they could ever be more now. Did he want to be more? Yes. He shouldn't, though. You're the best friend I've ever had. Thank you for giving me another chance. He didn't say it, though. "You're welcome," he said softly. He kept his arms tightly around his legs.

Markise shifted, letting out a slow breath as he leaned lightly against Ariel to rest his head on his shoulder. He was quiet for a bit, enjoying the comfortable silence, then he said, "I want it to be July." He knew it would be hard living with Ariel, but this was so nice and they'd gotten along so well. Forthe past few weeks. But he wouldn't have to deal with Hogwarts anymore, and he'd have some distance from DareandMichael.

Ariel had closed his eyes and focused on the scent of Markise's hair at first. Then he nodded in agreement with what Markise said, even though he was worried about it. He didn't know how it would all work, it was something that he thought about quite a bit, whenever he could pull his mind away from everything he couldn't have. "Me, too," he said finally.

Markise was silent at that. There were so many things he could say, so many things he was thinking of that he had to keep to himself. He wanted the summer, wanted that time with Ariel, without the distractions of Hogwarts and DareandMichael and London and Mano. He wanted to do something he could see working, and living on his own, more or less, could give him some confidence. He hoped so. He didn't know how much longer he could take feeling helpless and trapped.
