Melody had somehow found her way to the library. Although she wasn't much of a reader, the comfort of the room drew her in and soon she found herself scanning the shelves. As her eyes read the numerous titles of the books she found herself reaching for a book in particular. Pulling her hand back away from the shelf, she found that a copy of A Wizarding Wonder: Tales of the most remarkable young wizards and withes.
Melody walked over to the nearest table with the book in hand and sat down. She wasn't really too interested in the topic but figured she had time to waste. Flipping to the first page she scanned the opening paragraph before zoning out.
From the outside it looked like she was reading, but instead Melody was thinking. This new school was so different from being home schooled. Nothing was the same. Her mind missed the living room lessons and backyard flying. Most of all, she missed Andrew. But, before she could let her mind sway to further her thinking about him she switched to Connor. He was a very nice guy, cute, and polite.
Shaking the thoughts from her head she decided to actually read a little. Melody closed the book almost seconds later. Who would want to read a book that began with, "Once upon a time there were extraordinary wizards and witches and no matter what you will never be as great as them"
Putting the book to the side, Melody rested her head on the table top and closed her eyes. Just for a quick nap.....

There was no way Vane couldn't have noticed the girl. There were few enough redheads in the world, and even fewer natural redheads. That orange-tinted flame likely turned heads wherever she went, and Vane was no exception. He'd watched her over his own book, subtly, but with definite interest. This school was filled with girls, but this was the first he'd seen actually reading outside the confines of the classroom.
He told himself that was why he was standing, though he knew better. She was beautiful and... was she going to sleep? Vane tucked his book's ribbon marker between the pages he'd been reading and picked up his book bag, weaving his way toward her. He stopped at her side and leaned close, his voice coming in a near-whisper. "You know, there are couches by the windows," he said.

A startled Melody opened her eyes and they widened when realized that she had just fallen asleep in the library! Sitting upright quickly she brushed her hair away from her eyes with her hand and said to the guy, "Oh! Well, I guess I wasn't planning on sleeping or else I might have chosen a couch...Or just the common room I guess...." Her cheeks flushed a light pink color as she felt her loss at words, or rather the right words to say. Today was so not good day for first impressions it seemed! Oh well, it could only get better, right?

Vane's lips curved into a boyish smile, and for a moment he was slightly distracted by the girl's blush. Not enough to falter in speaking, however. "Maybe you should be reading something more interesting," he suggested, throwing a pointed glance at her book. He'd never so much as heard of it, but it couldn't have been very good to put someone to sleep in broad daylight.
"Was it the book, or is the school that bad?" he asked, pulling out a chair. He sat, bringing his book bag up onto the table, then set down his own book, Night of the Thestrals, and gave the girl a disarming smile.

"The book was pretty bad but I think I'm just tired," Melody said trying to get her blush to go away. When the guy sat down and pulled out a book she smiled, which was rare when meeting someone new.
"My friend loved that book," She said in reference to the book, "He wouldn't tell me what is what about though, said I had to read it to find out." Melody looked at the familiar cover and memories flooded into her head, before she could dwell on them though she pushed them aside.
"Oh, I'm Melody by the way." She said, taking a lock of hair and twirling it in her fingers.

"Nice to meet you, Melody," Vane said. "My name is Spencer." He extended a hand for hers, fully intending to bow over it just enough to give her a thrill. And allow himself a chance to get a better look as well. It was all he could do not to just watch the path of that fiery hair twisting through and around her pale fingers. When he straightened, his smile crooked up again.

"Nice to meet you too Spencer," Melody said, letting go of her hair to shake his hand. Spencer, the name sounded really familiar to her. She had just been told about a Spencer, not too in depth about the guy, just that the name was Spencer. Could this be him?
As her hand went back to the table she couldn't help but to ask, "Are you friends with a guy named Connor?" Connor, being the first friend she made here, had said something. How funny would it be if this was him, she would be meeting two best friends in a short span of less than 48 hours.

Since when had Connor turned into a social creature? Vane would have thought that he'd sequester himself in his common room playing cards, not meeting girls. Still, the fact that Melody had met Connor didn't mean much. She wasn't off-limits unless there was something between them, and this soon, he doubted it.
"Connor and I transferred from the same schools," he said. Yes, they were friends, though Vane wasn't at all the type to go into detail on things like that. "Where did you run into him?" he asked. If he could just rule out any serious possibilities, he could change the subject and go on getting to know her.

"The Great Hall. It was my first day and we just started talking. He's a cool guy." Melody choose not to mention that they were going to Diagon Alley sometime this weekend together. She picked her words carefully when taking about future plans when it came to guys. It wasn't that she wanted to lead others on, just the simple fact that plans could be changed so there was no reason to bring her own hopes up for a maybe letdown. Although, this would be the third time this week that she had gotten some sort of attention from a hot guy. First Connor, then Vincent, and now this! Melody made a silent promise to not let it go to her head.

A cool guy. That sounded like any of the other girls who'd seen him as sweet and left it at that. Vane's lips quirked slightly, and he relaxed back into his chair. "He's a nice guy," he said, choosing his words purposefully. Connor was nice, but how many girls actually wanted nice guys? They thought they did, but then they were drawn to guys like Ransley. Vane didn't at all aspire to a reputation like that, but neither could he enjoy being every girl's friend and no girl's interest.
"So, Melody," Vane said, allowing himself to change the subject now that the danger had passed. He stole a glance down at the title of the book she had. "Were you here for research or pleasure?" He meant the words exactly the way they were, but if she caught another meaning, he wouldn't mind at all.

"Neither. I came because there isn't anything else to do here." After her conversation with Connor the previous day, and Rayne, Markise, and Vincent this morning, she had found herself actually bored as she waited for the weekend and her date to come along. Hence why she had come here, and pretty much fallen asleep. "What about you?" She asked. By the looks of it, he had come just to read but one could never be too sure.

"There's plenty to do if you know where to look," Vane said, his hazel eyes sparking almost mischievously. "But I did come for the pleasure of it." He tapped his book lightly, but didn't take his eyes off Melody just yet. He'd come for one pleasure and found another, and there was no doubt in his mind as to which was the greater. His lips curved. "Are you into Quidditch?" he asked. It was one of his favorite pastimes, so it stood to reason that he'd ask about the sport first, but his mind was searching for anything else he knew about that might be interesting as well.

"Well, I've never actually played or seen it being played so I wouldn't know." Melody could feel his gaze still on her and she started to wonder if she should just tell him that she was going on a date with Connor. It would probably make things a little akward but then she wouldn't have this weird feelng like she was betraying him or something. But then again, Melody had never gotten much attention from guys before except Andrew and she wanted to savor it for as long as it could last....So, she figured there was always time to tell Spencer later. For now she wold just enjoy his company.

"You've never seen a Quidditch game?" Vane said, surprise showing through his attempt to disguise it. "Were you homeschooled before Hogwarts?" he asked. She had to have been. He didn't know of a single school that didn't have a Quidditch team, the idea was completely foreign to him, and so he could only imagine that she must have been one of the sheltered Pureblood princesses. He used the term princess loosely, of course. Melody didn't give off the air of a girl afraid to come out of her comfort zone. He'd be careful not to push too hard, but he looked forward to being a guide for her, even if he hadn't been here much longer.

Melody chuckled, "Obvious right? Home schooling is a very sheltered life. But yeah, I've never seen a game. The extent of the flying last year had been flying in the yard." Many times her mother had wanted to take Melody to a game, but those same time her dad would push down the idea. Now, it was too late to go see a game with her mom...Melody shook the thoughts from her mind. Se had made a promise to forget about everything and start over new and she had been doing very well on it so far.
