Ariel didn't know how he could stand doing this to himself knowing it would lead nowhere. But he went with it anyway. His arms circled Markise and he tilted his head to let the blond hair tickle at his nose. His eyes closed almost all the way, only open enough so that he could see to stay upright. It had been too long since he had held Markise or smelled him, and he was realizing just how much he had missed it.

Markise closed his eyes again and threw himself back into moving with the music. He let go of Ariel's hands and raised his own, unable to keep himself so closed up when everything was so good. He could dance for an hour before he really needed a break, and so he left it up to his partner to decide to call it quits.

Ariel would have been perfectly willing to go the whole night there with his arms around Markise. Within another song or two, though, he couldn't ignore how dry his mouth was getting. He didn't want to let Markise go just yet, so he held on as he spoke. "We should get water," he said. He didn't like the idea of a drunk Markise, but right now he didn't want either of them to fall over from dehydration.

Markise frowned as he opened his eyes, but he figured he might as well. Besides the obvious reasons, if things worked out as usual, he and Ariel would be fighting in no time and he could go hunt down Robbie. The way he was feeling right now, maybe he'd bypass the dancing completely. Markise's frown faded and he put on a smile as he looked back over his shoulder. "Let's go, then," he said huskily. Maybe he'd been dancing longer than he'd realized.

Ariel nodded and rested his hand at Markise's back as they made their way to the bar. He reluctantly pulled his hand away when he ordered the two waters and rested his crossed arms on the bar top. He felt like he should say something. What was there to say? He found with a shock, as the waters were sat in front of him, that he hadn't thought about his...job since Markise had asked that question about making money.

If Markise had somehow heard Ariel's revelation, he'd have taken his water and walked away. As it was, he wasn't actively thinking about Ariel's chosen profession, either. He was thinking about how hot he was, how pleasantly his muscles burned and how good that first drink felt as it cooled his throat. He perched on a barstool and swiveled slightly to rest one arm against the counter so he could look out over the club. He ended up looking back at Ariel though, so he decided to just start some conversation and see what happened. "You look like you've just seen an acromantula," he said, just loud enough for Ariel to hear.

Ariel glanced over, then his lips actually curved into a small smile. "No, just...that was fun," he said, gesturing out into the crowd. He turned and settled next to Markise against the bar. His elbows rested behind him on the edge of it and he looked over at Markise. The small smile fell to barely a spark in his eyes, but it was more than had been there in years.

It was strange seeing that smile, one that didn't feel lascivious or sarcastic. Markise dropped his gaze, then pushed it out into the club, one hand rising to play lightly with the hair at the back of his neck. It was all pushed back and there weren't any curls to wrap around his fingers, so he just brushed them lightly through it, trying to remember not to disturb it so much that it wouldn't look good anymore.
"It was fun," he admitted, then glanced back up at Ariel. "You have a lot of energy." If it sounded bad, he didn't let himself think of it. It was true, some guys wanted a break after every dance. Of course, some guys used the dance as a precursor to sexual invitations. Most of those guys were terrible dancers.

Ariel watched Markise, then decided to take that as a compliment. He also decided to keep himself from saying something like I've had a lot of practice or I'm used to staying up all night, a few songs is nothing or even it's not so much energy as it is stamina. "So do you," he said. "But then, this is your thing." He knew that he could swim for hours if he was allowed to, he figured it would be the same for Markise and dancing.

Markise looked aside at Ariel for a moment, then nodded. "I love dancing," he admitted, something that Ariel knew anyway. His voice lowered a bit. "I live for Friday night." The rest of the week what did he have? Meals and after school time with Anna that kept him sane, classes, homework, and no physical outlet whatsoever. He couldn't go to the Bloody Mary anymore, not since he and Dare weren't talking anymore. Markise shifted slightly and looked back into the crowd of dancers, scanning for Robbie. He really needed an outlet right now. Dancing with Ariel had done a number on him.

"That's how I used to be with swimming," Ariel said. At his old school he would try to get to the pool nearly every day. He didn't think he would still be alive had it not been for the outlet of the pool and the ability to run outside and be active. His eyes stayed on Markise, but it was obvious his mind was elsewhere, back to the one good thing about his school. Yes, there was the Room of Requirement here, but half the time it was already taken.

Markise nodded, but there wasn't anything he could say about that. He knew why Ariel hadn't been swimming, and he knew how much he'd loved it. "I can't wait for summer," he said. He couldn't wait to go home. Even if he'd have to cut down on the drinking because of his family, at least he'd have his friends. He'd be going to underage clubs again, but he wouldn't have to wait for Friday, he wouldn't have to hide nearly as much on a day-to-day basis. He could be himself.

Ariel nodded and ran a hand through his hair, then took a long drink from his water. "It'll be nice to have warm weather again." He had missed the sun actually giving off warmth instead of that cold light it had been giving off for the last however many months. "Are you leaving for the summer?" he asked, focusing his eyes and thoughts on Markise. He wasn't sure that he would like to go back and stay with his brother, but he wondered if he even had a choice.

Markise looked back at Ariel again. "There's no reason I shouldn't," he said. He didn't have anything here that couldn't be packed in his trunk and taken with him, really. He didn't have anyone who'd really care if he was gone for three months. He blinked and looked away, lifting his water bottle from the counter. "It won't hurt too much to close my shop, as long as I get back a couple weeks before school starts." That would be when Diagon Alley would be full of potential customers. In the summer it might just cost more to keep it open than he'd make in sales.

"You'd be able to open it more during the summer, though," Ariel pointed out. Markise wouldn't be tied to his school schedule to have it open during the summer like he would the rest of the year. Ariel turned his eyes to the crowd and focused on taking a drink. No, he wasn't considering the idea of seeing Markise during the summer. He was just making a rational argument.
