"I don't believe that. She could have had a good reason for leaving" whatever Johnny said, she actually thought she and her mom would get along if they met. It just hasn't happened yet. "you don't know, maybe there was someone after her, and she had to flee for her life"

Ariel snorted and shook his head, "She ran off with a muggle caravan going across the outback." He rolled his eyes and glanced over at Johnny. "Any chance I could have another light?" he asked, fingering the nearly full pack in his pocket. If he was going to be talking about his mother, no matter how much it didn't bother him, he wanted another light.

"oh." Johnny flinched "sorry'. and pulled out the lighter again, and put it in his hand "guess that's not a very good reason"

Ariel took the lighter and pulled out another cig, "No, I didn't think so, either, especially when her husband didn't want kids." He lit it and put it between his lips before handing the lighter back and muttering thanks. He hadn't smoked since he had left his old school and he had forgotten how relaxing it could be. He blamed the stick between his lips for the fact that he had been able to stay with Johnny for so long.

husband "You mean your dad right?" she was starting to get a little lost. For a second she even imagined that he meant...something else. She took the lighter, but kept it in her hand "You can hold on to it"

Ariel nodded to her first question, then shook his head at her offer. "No, thanks, I don't need another," he said, then took a drag. He really didn't need to. He was going to be enough out of shape because of the lack of swimming and running without downing a pack a day. He wrinkled his nose. It was not going to be fun getting back in shape once the lake unfroze.

"Your dad didn't want you?" she put the lighter back in her pocket and felt a little bit sorry for Logan.

"He didn't want kids," Ariel corrected, shooting her a sharp look. His father hadn't been one to want any kids, not just Ariel in particular. "He stayed until Maverick could legally take over." He hadn't even stayed long enough to see Ariel to school his first time. Ariel barely remembered him, even though there had been plenty of conscious years, he had pushed it out of his mind.

'I'm sorry. but isn't that kind of the same thing? How old were you when he left?...And do you wanna maybe get inside the castle? I can't stay out here anymore. I'm freezing"

"I was nine, and I can't go inside with this," Ariel said, gesturing with his cig. "And can you really not see the difference between not wanting kids and not wanting me?" he asked, raising an eyebrow and then shaking his head. There was an obvious difference. Not wanting kids was much less personal than not wanting Ariel, it was much easier to accept that way.

"not really" She folded her arms in annoyance. She knew it was a painful subject, but she had it with taking his sulky rude comments. "And you shouldn't be smoking anyway! It will kill you!"

Ariel rolled his eyes again, "I don't see myself living a very long life, anyway." He glanced over at her and his eyes stuck. "And so you know, the difference is that if he didn't want kids, it's not personal." He stared at her for a moment longer and then turned his eyes to the lake again, taking a drag as he did so.

"I suppose..." was all she could say to his reply. She wanted to say a lot more, about that statement. But it wasn't the right thing to do. He was only reacting, and she wasn't really that cruel.
"I still wanna get inside though" she looked at him meaningfully - meaning that if he wanted to come with her, he should put out his cigarette and do so, and if he didn't then she was going in alone. And he better make up his mind quickly, cause she was starting to lose feeling in her backside region.

Ariel had to admit that his fingers were starting to lose feeling, and he sighed and nodded, then took a few long drags to finish it out. He closed his eyes and raised an eyebrow at the feeling it gave him, and then dropped it on the ground and ground it in with his shoe. "Fine, then," he said, shoving his hand back in his pocket and giving the ice one last look before turning.
