Holly watched the Gryffindor follow the blonde towards the doors. Apparently, his anger had subsided. She trailed them with her eyes, usually brown, but now a furious black. She smirked to herself and skipped over to the Ravenclaw table sitting down beside her friends.

Ariel pushed his way angrily through the doors then turned his head around for Markise. "Markise!" he called when he saw the familiar retreating back, then started to follow him. Ariel was curious where Markise had been, had wanted to see him more than once since their disastrous trip to that club in London. Well, it couldn't be considered completely disastrous, not with the bundle of galleons Ariel had in that little bag in his room.

The muscles of Markise's back and shoulders tensed at the sound of that voice. He pretended not to hear and continued on his way, though his shoes moved a bit faster across the floor. Yes, he realized that Ariel would know he was trying to avoid him right now, but he didn't particularly care. He wanted away from Ariel before he could convince Markise that nothing that happened was his fault. He didn't need to be pulled into that again.

"Markise!" Ariel called again, and sped up, bursting into a short, quick jog to catch up. His eyes would have darkened had they ever lightened again from the encounter in the Great Hall. "Oh, so you've been avoiding me for the last two weeks," he said when he caught up and matched Markise's pace. "It's nice to know that my work paid off," he added bitterly. Maybe he should have just let the man have Markise.

Markise threw an insulted glare aside at Ariel, then stared resolutely down the corridor as he walked, cursing lightly about work paying off under his breath. "I haven't been avoiding you," he said sharply, then snapped, "I kept waiting for you in that stupid f~ing classroom, and after a week of it, it was pretty damn obvious you weren't coming back. Go back to the club and your f~ing brunette." His voice was low all the while, no hint of the saucy boy Ariel had seen before.

"I never saw you anywhere near that room!" Ariel said, widening his eyes. Not that he had stayed for very long, but he had went by a couple of times, especially as the weeks had worn on. "Besides, it's not like you didn't have an entire effing posse following you around the whole night." Both times he had found Markise he had been surrounded by guys.

Markise's chest swelled with anger at that. "What the hell did you think I was going to do? Sit around and pine for you while you made out with whoever the hell you wanted? I told you I was going to have fun too, and I didn't get anywhere close to crossing that line." He'd danced, he'd had fun, and he'd accepted one kiss after having a drink. Was Ariel always going to think he was loose? F~ing idiot!

"I kept to my promise!" Ariel said, a little louder than he meant to. He flicked glances up and down the corridor and then lowered his voice. He was still gripping his wand tightly in leftover anger from Holly, and quickly rising anger at Markise. "I came back to you and I kept my pants on, you never said I couldn't do anything else!" How did Markise get off ragging on Ariel when he had kept his word?

Markise snorted at that. "Bullsh~," he said. "I know you did something, Ariel. You were cold all f~ing night except in the bathroom, then I wake up in the morning and you're all f~ing over taking care of me. You've never been that nice before, and that was the only reason I didn't see what a load of crap you were feeding me. People don't throw that kind of money at random guys in bars." He'd been trying to think of what might have happened, but his mind refused to accept any of them.

"What the hell was I supposed to do?" Ariel asked, ignoring the subject of the money. "You had passed out cold and that morning you couldn't move for puking! Do you really think I'm just going to let you lay there when I could help?" It was just another time that Ariel had saved Markise. The way he saw it, Markise owed him a lifetime of servitude a couple of times over.

Markise swore under his breath again, using some of the more colorful phrases he'd picked up on the streets of New York. "Every other time you've helped me, you've been pissy about it. And where in hell did the money come from, Ariel?" Markise snapped, not at all expecting a straight answer. But he wanted Ariel to know he wasn't going to just shut up and take it. "You don't even f~ing like me. If you want to get laid, go back to the club."

"I told you, the money came from the man that owned that place! And he said we had to be out by the time he got out of the shower." Ariel wasn't about to argue with Markise over whether he liked him or not, since he wasn't very sure of that himself. Markise was whiny and emotional and for some strange reason thought crossdressing was just fine. Markise was the only one that knew about him, aside from his brother, Markise was the only one that had done anything other than relentlessly tease him in three years. He turned angry, dark eyes to the corridor in front of him and ran a frustrated hand through damp hair.

"Oh, yeah, and a guy generous enough to give a drunk and an asshole a place to sleep for the night and more Muggle money than I've ever seen before went all f~ing bipolar in the morning and told you to get out so hard you were freaking out?! Bullsh~!" he repeated. Markise turned a sharp corner and continued his quick, clipped pace in the general direction of the Hufflepuff Common Room. "You should get your f~ing story straight before you start spewing it out!"

"Nothing happened to you so why the hell does it matter!" What Ariel had done, he couldn't say he was very proud of, but he wasn't about to spill his guts and apologize for it. He kept pace with Markise, wondering faintly how long Markise could keep up the near run. Why did he even care? It wasn't like he couldn't do what Markise said and just go back to the club for fun. No, it wasn't caring, Ariel just liked conflict.

Markise stopped in an instant and turned to face Ariel, his pale blue eyes icy cold. "Because I'm not a whore," he said angrily, though his voice had lowered again. "This whole thing was a stupid f~ing mistake, and it matters because I can feel the lie, even if I can't tell what it is. I'm not putting up with that again. Sex isn't enough for me to sell my soul for." With that said, Markise turned to storm off again.
