When she stepped back, Kenneth just approached her again and started to play with her shoelaces again. He had completely blocked out her voice. Kenneth was just too into the shoe laces... they were so... symmetical. He loved things that were symmetical. Especially knots. Symmetical knots were the hardest, after all, because they were usually one sided.

"Stop it!" Holly snapped pulling her feet back. She bent down to tie her shoelaces and mumbled an apology before standing up again. Brushing her hair back she stamped down one foot. "Care to explain the fascination with my shoe laces?"

Kenneth didn't recognize the show of emotion that she had just diplayed. Was it anger? He didn't know. All he could do was answer truthfully, so he said, "They were symmetical. It facinates me. Can I please continue?"

"Are you autistic?" Holly whispered handing him her shoes. She could sacrifice the old sneakers, she had a ton of them. She watched him play with the shoes fascinating by how simple things were so stimulating to him.

Kenneth's ears tuned the girl out. He didn't want to hear her. He didn't want to talk about anything. Instead, he just filddled around with the shoelaces. "Thanks," Kenneth mumbled. It was clear to him that she was interested in him... and maybe when he was done with the shoelaces, he would speak to her.
About ten minutes later, Kenneth finished with the shoelaces. Kenneth said to the girl, "What was that?" Without making any eye contact, of course.

"Nothing," Holly whispered backing away. She did not know how to deal with him! She had never had an encounter or spoken to someone with special needs. Her father would not dare let her near a person with a disorder.

"What?" His snapping of his fingers provided him with the stimulation to keep up such a boring conversation with a person. "I want to know..." He said in his faintly Australian accented voice.

"When did you get here?" Holly asked suspiciously narrowing her eyes. She straightened up her back flinching everytime a snap echoed through the corrider.

"Uhh... a week ago...." He still didn't make eye contact with the new girl that he was speaking to. Kenneth changed his snapping rythym to a snap every three seconds.

"Okay. Well I guess I will see you around," Holly drawled making her way to the end of the corridor. His snapping was driving her nuts! What was wrong with him?
