Dare stood a way off from the castle doors, debating. He knew it was cold outside. Very cold, or for him, at least. Apparently none of the British kids were having any problem wandering around outside though, because they were smiling as they walked in, like it was nothing. Dare was standing here with his arms around himself and the hood of his worn black sweatshirt pulled up over his hair. Just walking into the entrance hall was bad enough.

Holly stood near the oak doors prepared for the blast of icy wind. She was dressed in a thick black coat and a pair of dark blue skinny jeans. Yellow ear muffs and a quirky, snow hat was on top of her head. She shivered, scanning her eyes across the room. A colorful, and older boy, was standing near the doors as if debating whether or not if was worth going outside. Holly raised her ice skates, a muggle hobby she had picked up from her brother, and shouted to him, "Going outside or not?"

Dare looked aside at the sound of that voice, hardly believing it was directed at him. Since when had girls talked to him? Still, there weren't any rude comments, and since she did actually appear to be talking to him--and what were those weird shoes she was holding?--he figured he could at least say something back. "Sooner or later," he said. Eventually he'd need to head out to Hogsmeade for work, but in the meantime, it looked like his free time was going to be restricted to the indoors. And Dare had decided that maybe Markise had been right about a hoodie not counting as a coat.

"Well standing there is not going to do anything," she responded eyebrow lifting curiously. Holly walked up to the front doors and they slowly creeked open letting in a gust of freezing wind. She shivered rubbing her hands together for warmth. Pulling her jacket tighter, and her hat down, she headed outside.

Dare swore under his breath at the blast of cold air. He watched the girl, wondering if she was insane for appearing to actually want to go out there. It didn't even occur to him that she might have wanted or expected him to go after her. He was far too caught up in the fact that it was freezing and everyone wasn't huddled inside for warmth the way he wanted to be. He was seriously considering just sending an owl in to work and finding someplace warmer.

Holly turned back and stared at the strange boy, half inside, half out. "Instead of staring at me, why don't you come ice skating?" To prove her point, she lifted the snow white skates and wiggled them teasingly. Holly shivered again as the wind howled, blowing more snow into her face. Maybe it would be smart to use a heat charm...

One of Dare's brows rose into a look that asked quite plainly, are you crazy? It was cold as all get-out, and he was freezing just standing in the entrance hall. Still, she'd managed to peak his curiosity, and his gaze moved to those strange shoes again. Ice skating. It had to have something to do with the shoes. "Even if it wasn't freezing anywhere, I don't have any of those shoes," Dare pointed out, gesturing toward the shoes in question.

"Meh. You're old. Can't you make a replica or something? And it is called ice skates. It is a muggle hobby. They glide on the ice, it is quite entertaining," Holly replied giving him a small smile. She could clearly see his discomfort in going outside. Judgeing by the look on his face, he was not a fan of winter.

Dare's lips parted in disbelief at her calling him old, but he couldn't help being amused by it. He wasn't that old, he was barely legal. It was easy to forget that, though. Her shoes--ice skates--glided on ice. Ice. Dare only knew of one body of water on school grounds, and the idea of any part of it being iced over was unthinkable.
Dare was interested enough by now that he was cursing the fact that he didn't own a coat or even a cloak. He had gloves, a scarf, and a hat somewhere, but considering the wind that had just blown through here, he couldn't imagine they'd do much good. And he wasn't nearly good enough at Charms to try making ice skates or a coat with magic. "I am not going out there," he insisted, even if his gaze did keep going back to those ice skates.

Holly grinned as his expression turned to disbelief at her comment. Well, she was straightforward. Of course, he was not "old" but old to her could be even a year apart. "Well suit yourself. I can do a few charms of my own, but if you are not interested, oh well" She smirked, taking that last step into the outside cold. If there was one thing Holly enjoyed it was the study of human nature. Since she had long studied this subject, her ability to read facial expressions was above average. She waited to see if the boy would follow.

Dare wanted to follow, wanted to go see for himself what the ice skates could do. As much of a Gryffindor as he might be, he had a massive streak of curiosity. Even so, there was a huge difference between the kind of cold he could brush off, and that freezing wind filled with snow. As far as Dare was concerned, anything below 45 degrees was far too cold to go out in. Dare had never considered having grown up in Southern California a disadvantage until the temperature had dropped. Now, he was praying he could save up enough money for a cloak fast. Dare watched the girl walk away again, silently cursing the weather.

Whipping out her wand, she whispered an incantation and immedietely warmth flooded her body leaving her toasty and warm. "Ah, much better. Now this is your last chance... Do you want to come outside or not?" Holly was hoping he would come along. She had just transferred to this new school and had not met any friends yet...

Dare looked at the girl, his gaze not missing whatever charm she'd just cast. He didn't know what it was, though. For the thousandth time, he cursed his old school for thinking magical theory was enough. "Not as long as it's that cold," he replied. Maybe he was glad that he was staying inside the castle, but that didn't mean he wouldn't have to walk to Hogsmeade anyway. And even if there was any way to get his apparition license before the spring, he'd still have to walk to the gates. He'd like to imagine that the club was closed and he wouldn't be needed, but considering everyone else was perfectly fine with it, he knew he was out of luck.

"Aw, come on! The charm does not hurt. It just shields the body from extremely cold or hot weather conditions. I learned it at my old school just a while ago." Holly frowned remembering all the good yet stressful times at Magic International. Of course, she had made many friends, one who actually happened to be transferred to this school as well. She wondered if Hektor would be here too...

Dare's eyes widened with avid interest at that. There was a charm that could shield you from the cold? He'd never even heard of that one. He desperately wanted to try it, to be able to go outside without being frozen to death. Even so, it was embarrassing admitting he was crap at charms, and he didn't even know this girl, much less trust her to try some random charm on him, especially considering the number of times he'd been hexed in the last couple months. Dare was definitely going to be asking Michael about this charm the next time he saw him.
"What school did you go to?" Dare asked, letting the topic of the charm go for now. Maybe he was trying to buy some time in the relative warmth of the still-too-cold Entrance Hall, but he was determined after that last blast of wind to stay inside.
