Again, Dare shook his head. "Is this guy like, a pedophile or something? I mean, not that you're a kid, but really, if he's that much older than you..." How in the world his dad and Michael ended up so relatively well-balanced with people like Soren as their parents he'd never understand. And why in hell his dad would want to mend bridges with the Blackwoods was beyond him as well.

"No! Of course not! It's just... I do not know," Holly moaned slumping against the wall. Was there any way out? There was so much on her mind right now! Her mind was like a crate containing thousands of viscious animals are screeching and screaming to get out!

There was no missing a reaction like that, and Dare immediately felt bad for having pushed the conversation so far. He'd been trying to help, not rub salt in the wound. "I'm sorry, really. It's just..." Dare could still remember the reaction he'd gotten last time a Pureblood found out about his heritage, so he bit his tongue and took his words a different way. "My family wasn't like that, and most of my friends' weren't either. Maybe I'm just trying to understand, not so much criticizing." Dare shifted, propping himself against the wall beside her with one shoulder.

"It is okay. Things cannot get much worse can they?" Holly attempted a smile, but failed miserably. "I know you do not mean it. You seem like a nice enough guy." Holly wiped her eyes, getting rid of any tears that may have spilled. Crying would not solve anything...

Dare had definitely heard that often enough. Well, not so much at Hogwarts, considering how far he leaned toward the antisocial. Usually, at least. He suddenly wondered how in hell they'd gotten here. Just minutes ago she'd been wasting breath trying to talk him into braving unthinkable misery in the cold, and now they were discussing the social relevance of arranged marriages. "I hate to be the pessimist here, but things can always get worse," he said at last. "If there's nothing you can do about it, there's no use making yourself sick over it, you know?"

"I guess," she sniveled wiping her tears away. "I am sorry I bothered you with my inconviences. It was rather rude of me," she murmured bowing her head respectfully. Living and socializing with people who were higher of class than her had drilled manners into her brain. Being around Atticus Brown could turn even the most daring wolf into an obedient puppy.

Dare shook his head lightly. "I don't mind listening," he said. "I wish I could've helped, though." Dare couldn't help having a flashback to a conversation with Emilian. Stereotypical Gryffindor Hero Complex. It was only then that Dare realized what had struck him as odd about that motion of her head. It was something he'd seen Adara do more than once, Adara, who was so sheltered he could hardly understand. The other side of the coin from the sons who were pushed so hard to follow their fathers' footsteps. He'd never really thought about it before, though. It was definitely something to ponder.

Holly forced a weak smile and stood up leaning against the wall for support. "I think I will go out into the snow. Ice skating will clear my mind," Holly murmured picking up her skates. The skates were clean and unscratched, the metal shiny and smooth.

Dare nodded, watching Holly as she straightened. He still wanted to help, but there really wasn't anything he could do, and if ice skating helped her relax, he wasn't about to stop her. "I'll see you around sometime, hm?" he asked. As little as her issues had to do with him, he already felt involved and he knew if he saw her in the corridors some time he'd end up asking her how she was doing.

"Okay. And again, thank you." Holly pulled her jacket around tighter and made her way to the door. The wind and snow had calmed down, snowflakes peacefully floating around. She gave a small wave to Dare, and jumped outside.
