The entrance hall was mostly a go-between right now. There were still people passing in or out of the front doors, but aside from those already wearing coats or cloaks, students were making beelines for their various destinations.
Brindle didn't mind it being cool. It wasn't freezing outside, so it wasn't that cold inside, after all. Rather than tugging her coat back on, she dropped it with her book bag against a wall far enough away from the corridors to be out of the way. She didn't feel like charming something or someone on accident.
"Is this good?" she asked, turning back to Dei. Somehow, she'd forgotten just how tall he was and had to lift her gaze a few inches to get from his mouth to his eyes.

Dei nodded, restraining a smirk at how she had forgotten how tall he was. "Yeah, this will be fine."
He deemed it safe to slip off his jacket, wearing only a white muscle shirt. He pulled his wand out of his pocket, twirling it in his fingers. "Ready to get started?"
This little alcove she had selected, he noticed, made absolutely positive that no one would get in the way of their practicing. He had to give a little grin at that.

Brindle's lips curved again in a slow smile. "I'm always ready," she said, not even picking up on the almost feline tone of her words this time. She liked a good challenge, and trying to keep up with a guy who was a foot taller than her was a challenge she couldn't resist, even if she couldn't do the charms just yet.
Brin kept her gaze firmly off of the parts of Dei's body that she most wanted to look at and drew her own wand from its place in a specially made pocket that ran along her right thigh. The pocket was invisible to the eye, but Brin knew it was there, easily accessible, and that was what counted in the end.
"So, what first?" she asked.

He had to smirk at the tone that she replied to him. He had known that she would be a lot of fun and so far she wasn't disappointing him.
"You tell me." Dei retorted in an almost suggestive tone. He did, however, wonder vaguely about where the wand came from. He was used to short people being full of surprises, though. His sister was quite the prime example.

Brindle blinked at his question, but didn't lower her gaze. "Aren't you supposed to be tutoring me?" she asked. She was looking forward to the game, but really, she couldn't exactly start it herself, could she? She wouldn't even know where to begin. Most of the spells just ran together in her mind.

"Of course." Deimos replied. "But you need to tell me what spells in general you're having trouble with."
Sometimes, he couldn't help but get slightly upset with his sister. She tended to rub off on him a little too much. And this was a prime example of her logical attitude showing through him.

Brindle nearly snorted at that. What spells didn't she have trouble with? "My last school only taught theory. Even the charms I can manage aren't up to par, and I don't know any jinxes, hexes, or curses. So start wherever you want, Dei. I'm a blank slate."
It was more than a little embarrassing to admit she was that bad, but Hogwarts actually practiced spells, and she didn't know how she'd be able to keep going when she hadn't even caught up. Besides, unless he had a background in martial arts, she could probably kick his butt anyway.

"Okay, then." Deimos frowned for a moment in concentration. A contemplative look came across his face as he thought about what he could start her off with.
After a few moments, he decided, nodding his head slightly. "Okay, then," he repeated. "Let's start with something basic. The levitation charm. Wingardium leviosa."
He motioned his wand carefully, swishing and flicking, in order to show her the correct way to wave the wand. He directed his spell on the jacket he had taken off and it floated into the air.
"Go ahead and give it a try." he encouraged her.

Brindle had watched the motion of Dei's wand avidly, working to connect it with the diagram in her first-year Charms book that she'd learned. It was ever so slightly different, but considering how bad she was anyway, she went with what Dei had showed her.
She was a quick learner when she had the motivation, and she definitely had the motivation here. She lifted her wand and turned it on her jacket. She realized her jacket was lighter than Dei's, but she wanted to see if she could do it before she started trying to lift heavier things.
"Wingardium leviosa." Brindle gave a swish and flick and her jacket jumped. She frowned at it and gathered herself to try again. Swish. And. Flick! "Wingardium leviosa!" This time her jacket obeyed and floated into the air. Brindle's vivid blue eyes shone with excitement and pride, and her lips curved into a broad smile.

Dei nodded proudly, answering her smile with one of his own. "Great job, Brin!"
He stolidly told himself not to look at her eyes, instead telling her, "Now, try to lift up that chair over there. I'll try to think of another charm."
He was reasonably certain that she could do that. He smirked to himself again as he decided on a charm.

Brindle turned her attention on the chair first, then anything else that caught her interest. She was determined to get the wand motion down before Dei could think of her next assignment.
A few times she did mess up, reverting back to the diagram she knew so well, but it wasn't long before she was sure she could remember the details. If any part of her realized that Deimos was avoiding eye contact, it didn't register for her absorption in her new task.
"I seriously hope every charm isn't off by just that much. It seems like it'd take forever!' She silently cursed SWIM for their poor teaching. It was no wonder the school was so cheap to get into.

Dei rose an eyebrow, not quite sure what she was talking about. He had to assume she was talking about her old school.
He decided to try her out next on the illumination spell. "Okay, I realize it's a bit bright in here, but let's try the illumination spell, Lumos."
He showed her how to do it. He had to admit, she was rather bright. Just poorly taught. What kind of schools were they running over in America...?

As far as Brindle was concerned, SWIM was just a step or so above the public school system that Muggles had. She'd attended those as well, until she was eleven, anyway. At least at SWIM, they hadn't been chastised for reading ahead. It had driven her crazy that no one in the class was aloud to go any further than the slowest student. Still, a small, bitter part of her thought that at least those public schools had demonstrated things rather than just showing a picture in a book and going on.
Brindle turned her thoughts away from comparing schools and back to comparing spells. Again, the diagram she knew was off by just a bit, and Brindle lit and dimmed her wand several times before she was sure she wouldn't forget how to do it.
"This is crazy," she said to Dei absently. "It's so close to the descriptions in the books."

"Well, the books are there for a reason...." Dei smirked teasingly. "No, I'm just kidding. I can understand. There's just nothing like understanding something by actually doing it rather than trying to cover theory on it."
He shrugged, "I guess, for me, it's like knowing how to play a sport but being told the rules are a little different."
Dei contemplated this for a few more moments, then shook his head. "Would you like to keep going?"

Brindle nodded without a moment's hesitation. "Just one more," she said. "Something harder. I think I'll be able to get the rest just by adjusting things a little..."
Brindle caught herself and stopped. He'd been so nice agreeing to help her in the first place and she was implying that his work was done and she could figure out the rest herself. She could, of course, but that wasn't something you were just supposed to say.
