Deimos politely allowed Brindle to go through the door ahead of him that led into the great hall. So far, this had been a rather eventful day. Meeting Brin was certainly an upside to what had promised to be another dull, boring day.
He sat at the Gryffindor table out of courtesy for Brin, knowing right away that his twin sister, Eirene wasn't in the room at the moment. He had to restrain a snort. More than likely, she was still curled up in a chair in the Ravenclaw common room, reading that book he had left her with.
Banishing all traces of his twin sister from his mind for the moment, he returned his attention to Brin with a grin as he started to collect things for his meal.

Brin couldn't help smiling again any more than she could help the way her blue eyes were attracted to his green. Still, somehow she managed to restrain herself enough to fix a plate. It was a challenge to do, actually. Hogwarts had entirely different food from SWIM, and there wasn't much that was really suitable for a vegetarian. They had pumpkin juice, though. That was a small blessing.
"Can you pass the... whatever that is?" Brindle asked Dei, gesturing toward something that looked appetizing, even if she had no clue what it was called. She still didn't know what half this stuff was called, even if she liked it. British food was just a completely different thing from American food.

Dei complied with a chuckle, handing it over easily. "Looks like treacle tart."
He vigorously dug into his food, then suddenly noticed Brin's choice of food. No meat. Whatsoever. No meat. How? This revelation startled him very much. He, personally, loved his meat. There was very little meat that he did not like. However, he chose not to comment and continued to eat his food.

"Thank you," Brindle said, then repeated the name of the dessert as she looked at it, hoping she wouldn't forget its name. She thought nothing of Dei's culinary selections as she finished choosing her own food and picked up a fork. She accepted that not everyone had the same views as she did, and that those views were as valid as her own. Markise, for example, had attempted vegetarianism with her at first. Then he'd decided he loved meat far too much to give it up.
The memories were there, even if she couldn't think of them now. How could she with a six-foot-something God, for lack of a better word, sitting right next to her? It was all she could do to keep her fork moving without choking on it. She contemplated trying to start small talk, but really, when guys had food in front of them, they had one-track minds, or at least the ones she'd known had.

Dei continued to eat, ready to give his body its proprer nutrition. Then, he thought of something. "So, you're in Gryffindor, right? Is your brother in there, too?"
He continued to munch on his various foods and totally forgot about her choice of food.

Brindle shook her head as she swallowed a bite of some kind of fruit salad. "He's in Hufflepuff," she said. "He's... one of those friendly, hard-working types," she said, rather than mentioning he wasn't really brave and bold.
"Your sister's in Ravenclaw too, right?" she asked. He'd said that she was really good in school, so it made sense to her. Brin idly wondered if Eirene would been Silver some time, or if they'd walk by each other a hundred times with their noses buried in their respective books.

"Yeah, she is." He swallowed a sip of his drink and added, "But she's really good at the stuff that I'm not. Like, literature and abstract ideas. I'm much better at logic and math."
He winced, hoping he didn't sound too much like a nerd. But he couldn't help what he was good at and what he liked. He paused. "She's probably still reading that book right now."

Brindle's lips curved lightly. "To each her own, right?" she said, looking aside at Dei. It didn't occur to her to peg him as a nerd. When she'd first seen him, he'd been jogging, and that first impression stuck in her mind no matter how many times she told herself that it was inappropriate. Anyway, she and her brother didn't share most of the same skills, though they seemed to share a lot of the same weaknesses.
"My brother's the same," Brindle said. "Well, sort of. He's one of those creative types, and he doesn't even bother hiding it. I mean, it's awesome, but I could never do half the stuff he does." He'd attempted to show her patterns and cloth before, but no matter how she looked, she couldn't see how it all went together. They were both strong in agility and balance, and speed to a point, weak in charms, but from there, Brindle didn't think there was much worth mentioning.
"I'm more into observing, then doing. I like action," she said. Suddenly she heard herself, and that heat moved up the back of her neck and across her cheeks again. Brindle looked down at her plate and silently cursed herself.

Dei's mind immediately went into the wrong direction and he snorted, "Sorry, I shouldn't have laughed."
He grinned at her, appreciating the way the blush made her blue eyes glow even more. "I'm more or less the same way myself. It's a very rare book that can keep me occupied and I much prefer to be moving around, doing something."
In a cheesy way, he added, "Of course, I also don't mind if people observe me. I have no problem getting up in front of a crowd."
He was hoping that the cheesy comment would make her look at him again and let him hear her laughter.

Brindle did laugh, a light, airy sound helped along by the fact that her cheeks were even warmer now, ever since he'd laughed at her verbal slip-up. She wasn't sure if she was embarrassed by it--you don't get embarrassed!--or just reacting to the sound of his laugh.
"I can take or leave a crowd," she made herself say, trying to work through whatever insanity had come over her. She glanced back up at Dei, trying to measure whether he thought she was a dork or not. "I've gotten to kind of... expect being looked at. Not that I'm totally self-absorbed or anything, but..." Brin shrugged. "Melting into the crowd is overrated anyway," she finished.

He laughed, "I would definitely have to agree with that. It's a little too boring if you're a conformist."
Dei was thinking that she was slightly a dork, but in his opinion that was a good thing. That just meant that she was that much more interesting and fun to hang around.
There was a tap on his shoulder. "Why aren't you sitting at our table, Dei?"
He turned and saw his twin sister. "Oh, Rene! I thought for sure that you were still reading!"

Eirene shook her head, wavy brown hair moving with the movement. It went down to her lower back and she currently had her bangs pulled out of her jade green eyes. "I finished it already. You took too long doing your jog, so I had plenty of time to finish it. Then I realized I was hungry, so I came down here."
She noticed Brindle. "Oh, hello! I'm sorry if my brother has been bothering you," she said with an apologetic face. "I know he's a rather high-maintenence person to be around."
"Hey!"

Brindle blinked at the feminine voice, her heart stopping a moment at having been caught. She could have recognized the girl as Dei's sister even before he'd said her name. Brindle raised her hand in greeting to the girl. "He's not bothering me," she assured Rene, or Eirene, she wasn't sure which she should call the girl. She wasn't sure what else she was supposed to say either, so she took a bite of the treacle tart and let herself observe.

"See? I'm being a good guy!" Dei protested to his sister, who rolled her eyes.
"Give me a few more minutes, then I'll come and help you with your- Oh! Charms!" Dei remembered and returned his attention to Brin. "You wanted some help with Charms, right?"
"Dei, are you going to keep being an ass or are you going to introduce me to your friend?" Eirene crossed her arms.
Dei gave her a glare, then said, "Okay, Eirene, this is Brindle. Brin, this is Eirene."
"You can call me Rene." Eirene gave her a grin. "I assume you're in the Gryffindor house?"

Brindle nodded, first at Dei's question, then at Rene's. She didn't think the girl's question really needed verification, considering where they were sitting, but it was a reasonable question.
"Did you already eat?" she asked . She would have preferred to continue taking her chances with Dei on his own, but she had no actual objection to his sister joining them. Besides, she was nearing the end of her meal and they probably would have been going to meet Rene pretty soon anyway.
