Markise took the opportunity to draw as close to Ariel as he could, despite his obvious annoyance. "I panicked," he said, looking up at Ariel from beneath glittering wet lashes. He tugged lightly at his arm, uncomfortable from where Ariel held it so hard, but he didn't figure he'd be getting free, and it was only now that he really thought about Ariel's warning. He couldn't help thinking it was still worth it, though. "Thank you for saving me," Markise said, his gaze flickering down to Ariel's mouth, then raising to his eyes again.

Ariel sighed, aggravated again, though he couldn't bring himself to pull his hand away from Markise's arm. He did, however, pull them back far enough towards the shore to where his feet touched the ground, just a few feet back. "You couldn't have made it this far?" he asked, raising an eyebrow. True, only the balls of his feet touched the ground and even then he was probably standing on a rock, but it was enough to count.

Markise shook his head, sending droplets of water from his soaked hair trailing down the sides of his face and neck. "I seriously almost died," he said, wondering if Ariel was actually playing along, or if he really thought that Markise had been in trouble. If it was the latter, Markise wasn't about to burst his bubble. He'd be in trouble for sure then. With the stability of the ground beneath his feet, at least enough to count, Markise moved even closer to Ariel, his free hand sliding up that muscular chest and around to the back of his shoulders. "Can I get you to massage my leg again?" he asked, "or should I thank you first?"

Ariel raised an eyebrow. "You're definitely not acting like you need your leg massaged," he said, mentally comparing the way Markise was acting to the way he had the last time. And he wasn't willing to give in to a thank you just yet, however pleasurable it could be. His hand loosened around Markise's arm, though he left it where it was, and he resisted letting his other arm move around Markise just yet.

"But I do," Markise insisted, drawing one leg up along Ariel's beneath the water. "Can't you feel how tense it is?" He flexed the muscles of his calf as he wrapped it around the back of Ariel's, drawing their bodies lightly together. "It hurts," he complained lightly. It didn't in the least, but at least Ariel wasn't being pissy anymore, just grumpy. Nothing unusual there.

Ariel's skin heated at that contact, even under the chill in the water. His arm moved around Ariel's back lightly, "I think you'll live." He didn't think that Markise really needed it, it didn't seem like he was in that much pain. "You're not in very much pain, if you're trying to do that," he said, raising an eyebrow and dropping his other arm down around Markise's waist.

"Trying to do what?" Markise asked innocently. "If I don't hold on, I'll sink, and then you'll have to save me again." Which Markise wouldn't mind at all, considering how it was working out so far. And this time he got the full effect of the way Ariel's skin felt in the water. Markise trailed his fingers up the back of Ariel's neck, then curled lightly against him. He leaned forward, bringing his lips near Ariel's. "Ow," he said, with absolutely no emphasis on the word whatsoever.

Ariel stared down at Markise, wondering if it was really worth resisting the kiss. His arms rested lightly around Markise and he tried to keep himself from pressing his lips to those so close. It was very hard though, with Markise so close, with that leg wrapped around his, those fingers at his neck. After a few moments he sighed heavily and leaned in for the kiss, angry with himself that he couldn't resist when he was still annoyed with what had happened.

There was more than a little satisfaction in that kiss, more than a few levels of it. Markise knew that Ariel wasn't entirely over whatever it was that was bothering him so much, but he couldn't resist. That was one of the things that attracted Markise so much to him. Well, that and his hair...and his body...and that accent... Markise parted his lips against Ariel's, his nose wrinkling for a moment at the first taste of lake water clinging to their lips. It would be gone soon enough.

Ariel's arms slowly tightened against Markise's wet waist, the feel of the skin covered in water uniquely addicting. It didn't take long for him to deepen the kiss, to tilt his head and explore, even though there truthfully wasn't much left for him to explore that he hadn't yet been over. Markise was his, and he set out to prove it with the kiss, taking control and leading the motions to what he wanted.

Markise took what Ariel offered eagerly, and soon he was dizzy with it. Little time passed before he'd forgotten all about Dare, all about his alleged cramp and his small victory. Both arms wrapped around the back of Ariel's neck as he clung to him to stay upright and above the water. One hand anchored itself in Ariel's water-darkened hair, and the other curled into his shoulder. It was so easy to lose himself to this.

Ariel loved how their skin, slick from the water, felt as they touched, it added something to the already amazing sensation of just kissing in the water. He couldn't help, though, wondering about Dare. Had Markise said the same things to him? No, surely not, it didn't seem that way. No, Markise was all his, Ariel was sure of it. Who else would have Markise? The only other gay guy he had heard about in the school was taken. His arms tightened for a moment.

Markise would have bristled at Ariel's thoughts if he'd heard them. However, he was no Legilimens, and even if he had been, he was far too busy kissing Ariel to wonder what he was thinking. He pressed himself closer at that tightening of Ariel's arms, and, because he could feel how much lighter the water made him, lifted up, wrapping himself completely around Ariel.

Ariel's eyebrows came together as he moved his arms a little lower on Markise's body to hold him up, even with the water he felt like he needed to support the weight like that. He couldn't deny that it added something, maybe a desperation, to the kiss having Markise wrapped around him like that. It also made his mind completely abandon all of his previous thoughts in preference to the much more pleasant thoughts of his birthday.

Markise made a soft noise of pleasure at the feel of Ariel's hands. He didn't at all feel like getting out of the water, getting dressed and hunting down that classroom. Besides, Markise had done this before, behind the greenhouses at SWIM for one, and he knew that from a distance they were safe. If he ducked down behind Ariel, he could pass for a girl and everything would be fine. So Markise didn't stop himself from shifting his weight purposefully. He wanted this now, and there was no reason to wait.
