Markise's heart dropped again at the look in Dare's eyes. Had Dare ever looked at him like that before? He didn't think so. Dare had always been so cool and calm about everything. Markise dragged his gaze from Dare and nodded sharply, though he wasn't at all sure if he'd try to catch up with Dare in a corridor again. And definitely not with Michael. "I'll see you," Markise said, then turned to Brindle. "Come on, let's go."

Brindle looked up and pouted, but she'd overheard more than enough to keep from arguing. She nodded, sighed, and pushed away from the wall, then raised a hand to Dare and whatever bit of Michael she could see. "Bye," she said, and followed Markise down the corridor.

Michael was glad to see them go, if only to get rid of Markise. It was hard for him to get past first impressions, so he doubted that he and Markise could ever actually become more than civil towards each other, even if it was for an immature reason. Michael stepped up beside Dare and slipped his arms around his waist. "Is Brindle always that...excited?" he asked, ignoring the knowledge that Markise had even been involved for the moment.

Dare blinked, Michael's question so far from his thoughts that it took him a moment to process it, and another to remember the way she'd greeted him. "Oh, that, no, she's not always like that, but she likes to be swung around, so I go ahead and do it. She nearly gave me a heart attack," he said, as though he'd been at any real risk. Dare brought one arm around Michael's back, letting his hand settle on his waist. "Are you okay?" he asked. He hadn't expected Michael to kiss him back so thoroughly, and while he'd enjoyed it, he wondered how much of it had to do with what had happened in the corridor.

Michael didn't immediately respond, his chest constricting again as he remembered the way Markise had greeted Dare. After a few moments, he nodded, and looked up at Dare. "I didn't like seeing you hug him like that," he admitted softly, and his eyes dropped. It was just a hug, that little voice repeated, but how could it still even say that? When it knew how Markise had acted? It had meant something, even if it had only been one-sided.

Dare closed his eyes a moment, then turned, wrapping his arms around Michael. He brought his nose against Michael's hair and breathing him in while he tried to think of what he could say to that. "It's just...different with Markise," he said, then realized how bad that sounded and pressed a kiss to the side of Michael's head. "I missed him, that was all. I love you, Michael. Not him, not like that." Not for a minute would he think of walking away from Michael, not even for five years of friendship.

Michael closed his eyes and nuzzled against Dare's neck, "I guess I'm going to have to get used to sharing you." For the majority of their time together, it had just been them, occasionally with Emilian or Adara coming into the picture, but even then it had been them, rarely one or the other. He didn't like the idea of sharing Dare, Dare was his, even if Markise did had five years of friendship under his belt.

Dare exhaled slowly at the feel of Michael against his neck. "I'll still be yours," he murmured. One hand rose, sliding up into Michael's hair from the back of his neck, while the other moved slowly against his back. Markise had been his friend, albeit a friend he'd shared kisses and long hugs with, but it had only ever been comfortable. Michael was so much more, and he didn't even know how it had happened. Once upon a time, he'd met a boy at the edge of the forest. They'd talked, shared, touched, and the rest was history. "I love you," Dare whispered.

"I love you, too," Michael said just as softly, and pressed a light kiss to Dare's neck. He didn't know how he was going to manage sharing Dare even more. The job he had taken on was already cutting hugely into their time together, and if Dare started to hang out with Markise and Brindle... Michael's arms tightened, he would still be with Dare at night, and the time they had would be all the more precious for being limited.

Dare was happy to stand there with Michael until both their feet ached, but eventually, he found himself glancing at his watch with just enough time to get to work. If he left now. Dare sighed and pulled back a bit, looking down at Michael. "I've got to go," he said softly. "I'll see you tonight, though." He gave Michael just one more kiss, then forced himself to leave. He enjoyed his job, no question, but today, he couldn't wait for it to be over.
