Markise's eyes widened too, and his lips parted in appallment as his gaze swung back toward Michael. "Dare's been my best friend for five years, so don't go acting like I don't know him! You've known him for what, a couple months? I thought so. And you don't know what I've been through either, unless you're practicing Legilimency over there, so you can keep your damn mouth shut until there's something you do know!"

"I never said I knew what you've been through! I said I know it can be bad, we've not exactly had the best time of it, either!" Michael felt Dare's hand, had heard his name, but there was a reason he had mutilated his tongue in an effort to keep silent. He wasn't so good at the stopping part. "And you can't tell me I don't know Dare, I know him a hell of a lot better than you think I do." His legs shifted apart slightly and he stood up a bit straighter, pulling back his shoulders, his pose becoming more offensive than the submissive he was used to taking while at Dare's side.

Dare's eyes widened further. Were they fighting over him? It was mind-boggling. One minute he'd been introducing his boyfriend to one of the two best friends he'd ever had, and the next minute they were verbally tearing at each other. "Both of you, hold up!" Dare barked, incredulity shining in his eyes. "Listen, Markise, I'm sorry about what happened to you, we can talk about it some time, but me and Michael are going through it right now. It's not so bad we're being pulled from the school, but yeah, a lot of sh~ is happening. And Michael," Dare said, turning his gaze away from Markise, "Markise is an asshole when he's stressed, and I'm guessing he didn't get much sleep last night, so please, please just try to get along." Dare pulled Michael even closer and pressed a brief, but firm kiss to his forehead before looking between Michael and Markise.

Markise glared off at the wall again, arms crossed tightly, lips slightly pursed. He couldn't really take offense at what Dare had said, since it was true, so he didn't bother refuting, but tried to calm himself, wishing he had that pack of gum with him. Finally, he turned back to Dare, then to Michael. "I'm sorry I'm being an asshole," he said. "Really." If you'll accept it this time.

Michael didn't plan on apologizing for what he had said, he meant it all, and he wasn't sorry. He chomped down on his tongue and tightened his fist around the cloth of Dare's shirt again, it was the only way he was able to keep himself from saying something else to Markise. He kept the same narrowed glare on Markise as he had had since the beginning, and thought the words he wanted to spit out.

It was only getting worse, and Dare didn't want to make Michael stand there obviously furious, for whatever reason, any more than he wanted to leave Markise. So he settled for a compromise and excused himself to Markise before physically dragging Michael a short distance away. He turned his back to Markise, blocking the view of Michael as best he could, and lifted his hand from Michael's to draw his chin up. "What's going on?" he asked softly, his eyes searching Michael. Dare had gotten entirely lost during whatever had happened, and didn't have a clue, other than that Michael and Markise had been fighting.

Markise glared after them, his arms tightening across his chest again. Whatever was going on here, he hated it. Not only had Dare gone and gotten himself a boyfriend, but apparently Michael was more important than he was. After a few months! Markise huffed and looked at Brindle, then down to the ground, waiting for Dare to come back.

"Didn't you see how he looked at me?" Michael asked, raising his eyebrows as he looked up at Dare. "And then what he said? He wants to be with you! And then he blamed his attitude on whatever it was he was getting from his old school!" He thought it was fairly obvious, Markise hadn't been at all happy to learn that Michael was Dare's boyfriend, and then he had went in on how he hadn't expected Dare to move on so quickly. Come on. Michael stretched his neck slightly, flicking his eyes toward Markise.

Dare caught Michael's chin again, pulling his face gently back toward Dare's. "I don't know what's up with him, it wasn't like that before, I swear it, so I'm not going to make excuses about him...wanting to be with me," Dare said, obviously considering it a foreign concept. "And yeah, he's being an ass right now, I'm sorry, I don't...I don't know what to say!" Dare's brows knit in frustration. He just wanted Michael and Markise to get along, and Michael was the one he thought he could reason with.

Michael flicked his eyes in Markise's direction again but didn't pull away from Dare. "I sure as hell hope he's not like this all the time," he said, wrinkling his nose. He knew that it wasn't going to be the only time he would come in contact with Markise, but if the guy acted like that every time, Michael didn't think he could handle it. "If he'll keep his attitude down I can hold my tongue," he said when he focused back on Dare. He wasn't going to apologize.

Dare's hands rose in unison, sliding into the soft hair at the sides of Michael's head. "Thank you," he said softly. That was all he wanted. Maybe they could try this again. Dare closed his eyes a moment, hoping Markise wasn't looking, and that he was shielding Michael enough, then brought his lips to Michael's. He wanted reassurance, wanted to calm himself and Michael down before turning back to Markise, wanted to reassure Michael. I love you. Just you.

Michael wouldn't normally have liked the idea of kissing in front of people, but considering who it was... His hands moved to Dare's hips, he could live with it. And if Markise didn't like it, then all the better. He's mine, and there's nothing you can do about it. Besides, Michael had survived worse attacks on the relationship than a couple of glares and words.

The low voices had stopped, and so Markise looked up, only to see that Dare's hands had disappeared from view and Michael's were on Dare's hips. Markise's eyes narrowed, and his lips pressed tightly against one another. He knew what Michael meant by it, but Dare... Markise gave a light huff and dragged his gaze away, over to Brindle, who was apparently oblivious of everything. "Dare," he called, "We're going to get going, we've got class." Eventually.

Mentally, Michael smirked, and he didn't break the kiss. Part of him said it wasn't the smartest thing to do, not when Dare probably wanted to say bye to Markise and Brindle, that he should break the kiss and let Dare talk to his friends, but maybe he was still a little bitter at Markise and wasn't quite ready to let everything go just yet. It was very likely that Dare would end it anyway, but Michael wasn't going to.

There was something in the kiss that Dare hadn't felt before, some note of possession that attracted Dare's interest. But he'd heard Markise. It was hard to pull away, and it took Dare a moment, definitely long enough to be noticed. Dare looked at Michael with hazy eyes, then blinked, dropped his hands, and turned back to Markise. "I'll see you around?" he asked. It was better this way. Everyone could cool down and they'd try again another time.
