Michael stood outside of Kane's door again, debating. Dare was at work, or would be soon, and so Michael didn't feel the need to be in Hogsmeade just yet. That wasn't exactly true, Hogsmeade, even alone in the shop, would have been better than roaming the halls. It had apparently started to get out that he hadn't been in his dorm the past few nights and people were running wild with it. After a few moments he raised his hand to knock, then settled it down on his bag, partially hoping that there was no one there to answer.

Michael's wish did not come to fruition. Kane was in his office with nothing in particular to do when the knock sounded, and at a flick of his wand, the door swung open. Kane pushed to his feet, giving Michael a soft, encouraging smile as he gestured for him to come in and have a seat. "Michael, I was wondering if I'd see you again," he said.

Michael took a deep breath and put on a small smile as he came in, shutting the door behind him before going and taking the seat he had the last time he had come. He nodded, "It's been a rough week," he breathed, leaning forward in the chair. He put his elbows on his knees and linked his fingers together in front of him. Had it really just been a little over a week since he had come to see Kane?

"So I hear," Kane said dryly, resuming his seat. "But, I'm not really one for the rumor mill. I know how stuff gets blown out of proportion. So my question is, how are you holding up?" He must have a lot on his mind to be visiting, especially considering how difficult it was to get Michael to talk last time, but then, last time had been the first, and that was often the hardest.

That was a question. Michael looked down, away from Kane, and focused on that pattern in the wood that had held him over during his last visit. He gave a heavy sigh and reached up to rub the back of his neck. "It's been really hard, but...we're going to be okay." He had almost said I think, but stopped himself just in time, he knew they were going to be okay. They had to be. "The guys have done some things, and of course there's everyone in the halls...but we're not letting it bother us." It did bother them, but not them as a relationship.

Kane nodded. "The Headmistress is aware of some of the problems, and is doing what she can, but in the meantime, it's good you still have that support system. Do you want to talk about any of the things that have happened? Or are you here for something else?" Kane wondered if Michael's intimacy issues had been resolved. It sounded as though their relationship was ongoing.

Michael glanced up at Kane and then sighed again as his hands came up to rub his face. He didn't want to talk about it, he could barely talk about it with Dare, so how was he supposed to with Kane? "So I talked to Dare after I talked to you and we...worked it out." It had taken time and more than one talk, but it had been worked out. Even if they had only ended up having another awkward conversation a few days later about the same subject.

"That's good to hear," Kane said. "Conflict resolution is a major point in any relationship. And being able to discuss issues is another." Kane could tell that wasn't the end point, though. There was definitely something bothering him, and somehow, it felt like it was part of his intimacy issues more than it was about backlash from the Daily Prophet. Kane leaned back slightly in his chair. "How is it working out now?" he asked.

Michael ran his hands into his hair and looked down at the floor between his feet. "We're fine, he said that it's fine," he said, forcing the words out, however awkward he may have felt doing it. "But I can't help but think that it's more than just...not being ready." He was sure it was more, and the conversation he had had with Dare that morning had only made him think harder on it.

Kane brought his hands to the desk, steepling them lightly against the blotter. "Do you have any idea what it might be?" he asked. There were so many possibilities that it was far easier to help if Michael could narrow the scope. Kane would gladly help either way, but anything Michael could give him would be a help.

And there was the part that Michael had been dreading, actually telling Kane what the problem was. "Any time we get close to...anything, really, I freeze, and it's not an I'm not ready kind of thing. It's like, I just can't do anything else, I panic. We talked about it the other day," he said, his mind going back to sitting on that piano bench. "I...we never, never, talked about that kind of thing at my house."

"Ah," Kane said. That sounded like a perfect base for this kind of thing. "That's not all, though, is it?" Kane prompted. Usually, there was some event, or some series of events, that brought the problem to life. Kane would ask specifics, if necessary, but he would give Michael a chance to speak first. If Michael knew the issues, it would be an immense help. If he was unaware of them, then Kane would help him discover and move past them.

Michael nearly shook his head, but he couldn't help but think of Emilian, the only sexual person he had been in contact with for the majority of his life. Emilian deserved to be mentioned, if only to cover his bases. "Have you heard of Emilian? I grew up with him..." He really hoped that Kane had heard of him, Michael didn't feel like explaining how Emilian was to Kane.

Kane arched an eyebrow. Yes, he had heard quite a bit about Emilian Sota, actually. He'd been reading the Daily Prophet long before he'd actually gotten hired, and prepared himself for the drama to come by reading the entire thing. Including the gossip column. "So you didn't have much of an example outside him, did you?" Kane asked.

Michael shook his head, only then beginning to see how that could have hurt everything having to do with intimate relationships like what Dare wanted. He wasn't a dumb person, not at all, but Michael was so used to Emilian that he hadn't even thought about it. "He was around all the time, him and his....friends." For lack of a better word.
