"Ah," Kane said again. "Well, I can assure you that Emilian isn't a typical example, nor would I recommend using him as a role model in such things. Sexual intimacy is a very personal act, and shouldn't be treated lightly. It's something that's best shared between people with an emotional connection and treated responsibly."

Michael finally looked up at Kane, feeling strange hearing those words, "I know that, I mean...I know that's what it should be, and I can't believe that Dare would do anything..." He ran a hand through his hair and licked his lips, "But I just can't, I can barely even think about it without..." Without what? Panicking? Was he just afraid of it? Perhaps it was that intimacy that scared him, the idea of letting someone that close in such a way.

"That's okay. Everyone has different levels of comfort, and I can understand where yours is coming from. But tell me, what about you, yourself? Outside of the relationship, are you still uncomfortable?" It was tantamount to asking Michael an extremely personal question, but it needed asked.

Michael's eyes widened and then he looked back down at the wood of the desk. Was that enough of an answer for Kane? Michael sure hoped so, he didn't care to talk about that with the man. He didn't say anything, not verbally, instead he let his body answer for him, because he really didn't want to go there.

The answer was a resounding yes. Kane took a moment to think, then began telling Michael, in as gentle terms as he could, about the importance of being comfortable with yourself. He watched his words carefully to stay within the limits of Michael's comfort zone, not wanting to scare him off or get tuned out because it was too much.
Kane gave Michael very small suggestions and ideas to help him become more comfortable, both physically and emotionally, pausing for questions and explanations when necessary. He had helped countless children and teens in the years he'd worked as counselor, but this was a unique issue to him. He'd have to look into it.
"Are you okay with trying that?" Kane asked at last. It was something small, something private and noninvasive, but he thought that it would help.

Michael didn't know if he could, or even that he would try, but he wanted to be comfortable both with himself and with Dare. "I'll try," he said softly, looking away from Kane again, somewhere during the talk he had been able to look up, and he thought that that in and of itself was an accomplishment. The discussion had been intense and very uncomfortable, but Michael wanted to fix it. Maybe if he constantly told himself how much he wanted to change it would help.

Kane nodded, hoping that it wouldn't be too much for Michael, hoping that he'd try it. Kane had hope, considering that Michael had been successful last time. This was bigger, but he believed Michael would conquer it. "One step at a time," Kane said, standing. He offered his hand to Michael. "You can do it," he said.

Michael sighed and stood, mentally convincing himself that he would try it as he took Kane's hand. He couldn't help but think that he should tell Dare, especially if he was going to be going to Kane more than the one time, the smallest part of his mind couldn't help thinking that it was wrong to not tell Dare. "Thank you," he said instead of a repeat of his last parting question.

"No problem," Kane returned. He saw Michael out, then closed the door, pausing just a moment before turning to the bookshelves lining one wall. There was one in particular he wanted right now. He wanted to be fully prepared when Michael came back.
