That wasn't what Chase wanted to hear. He wanted to hear that it was something she'd done out of spite, that she'd let go of the other guy now, but she was dragging her heels. "I don't get it, Dru. You say you've wanted me so long, and you're throwing it away? What am I supposed to think? If I'm not kissing you, you're pulling away. Five minutes ago you were mine." Chase closed the distance between them again, his body pressing hers lightly to the wall, hands purposefully seeking those places that made her weak. "What is it I'm doing that isn't enough?" he murmured, then parted his lips against her neck.

"If you had done this a week ago," Dru said softly, "I wouldn't have agreed to be with him." It was true, she would have been with Chase, willingly, gladly would have gone with him. "But I have," she continued, after trying to shift away enough that it wasn't as overpowering. "And I won't go back on what I told him." Her voice was still soft, merely a whisper, and she couldn't help regretting being with Silver, even if part of her still knew that it would be better in the end.

Chase's hands tightened against Dru possessively, and he shifted with her, refusing to allow her the room to think. His lips skated persistently against her neck, then up to her jaw, to her ear. "Think what I'm offering, Dru," he murmured, his voice seductively low. "I'm offering everything. I'll give you everything, Dru." He'd come too far to turn back now. The bit of pride it took to say the words was worth it.

Dru put her hands to his chest, trying to make herself push, but all she could do was hang her head and wish. Why had she finally gotten the nerve to pull away from Chase right when he was willing to be with her? She couldn't understand why fate hated her as much as it did. She forgot to speak, letting herself, for the moment, wallow in how horribly everything had turned out. Her cheeks were wet, and she knew that she needed to push Chase away, or she would do something she would regret and end up right back where she had started.

She hadn't said no. But was that enough? He was tired of Dru just going with it, of her giving in, but not giving back, not taking everything he wanted to give her. "You're mine, Dru," he whispered, his lips soft against her neck. "I want you to be mine. Just say yes..." He parted his lips against her, distracting, coaxing, convincing her in the only way that had ever worked. Be mine.

"Why should I?" she asked, pushing lightly against him. "When you wouldn't agree to be mine?" Dru didn't think it was fair that she should have to give him what he wanted, when for so long she had been denied what she wanted. She couldn't agree to be with him, and she pressed a little harder against him, shaking her head again, "I chose Silver."

"Because you didn't know I was ready!" Chase argued, raising his head, but refusing to let her go. "You've made your point, Dru! I'm not the only guy out there! Now can we just forget this?" They'd lost enough time already while he'd been figuring things out, but he'd needed that time. And now he needed this, and she was being stubborn!

Dru shook her head again, "I told you, I made a decision, and I'm not going to go back on it." However much she was considering being with Chase, she couldn't keep her mind off of the fact that she had decided on being with Silver, and she couldn't bring herself to break up with him within a week of being with him. "I'm sorry," she said, looking away from him and lowering her eyes.

Chase's eyes blazed, hurt feeding anger until only one was left. "You f~ing tease!" he barked, pushing away from the wall. "You play games with me for a f~ing year and when I bow and give you what you want, you walk away?!" Chase stepped backward, reaching for his handkerchief again even as he forced down the need to cough. "F~ you, Dru!" he choked. "I hope you like it up on your high horse, cause no one's ever going to join you on it!" He didn't want to see her reaction, didn't want to see that he'd hurt her. Chase turned and headed back down the corridor, muffling his coughs in his handkerchief.

"It took you a year to decide you wanted to actually be with me! How can you expect me to keep waiting, Chase?" Dru called after him, her voice choked with tears. She pushed away from the wall and narrowed wet eyes at him, "You met me, and you kissed me, and I let you get closer than anyone has ever been to me. And then, I couldn't even be happy anymore because you were so convinced that relationships are the devil and I knew I was chasing a hopeless dream. And now I finally get the chance to be happy with Silver and you up and decide you want to be with me?" She turned her eyes down and picked up her bag, unsure where the outbreak had come from, but wanting to leave.

He didn't want to listen, didn't want to stop and risk anything penetrating the safety of anger. "F~ you!" he shouted again, the words echoing down the corridor. "You never listened to me anyway, I'm not wasting my breath!" Shouting set Chase off into coughing again, but he didn't slow his steps, didn't stop to breathe. He was propelling himself on righteous fury, and that would have to be enough.

Dru picked up her bag and turned down the corridor, going the other way and trying to convince herself she had done the right thing, but the pain in her chest was so great how could it have possibly been the right decision? She crossed her arms tightly over her chest and put her head down, letting her hair fall around her face to hide the tears she could still feel coming from her eyes. She planned on going to her common room, hoped she would see Silver, despite that he had said he wouldn't see her, to remind herself why she had chosen the way she had.
