Though Michael went back into the kiss as though nothing had happened, returning it with as much fervor as he could, he couldn't help wondering why he was so tense about things. It wasn't as though no one had ever touched him skin to skin, he wondered if he was too caught up on the thought that Dare was a guy, but then, that made no sense, he was so comfortable with him otherwise. He couldn't make sense of it, so he tried to push it to the back of his mind and enjoy the return of the kiss.

Dare's hand followed the line of Michael's body up, swept lightly against his neck, then sifted into the hair at the side of Michael's head. He tried to work himself back from desperation, tried to ease himself away from the desire for more, however much he was enjoying this. He'd been enjoying it way too much. He still wanted more, but that moment of forced control had leveled his mind, however slight, and he knew it was time to stop.

Michael felt it slowing down and felt a pang of guilt for being the reason it was stopping. He let his hands fall from their almost desperate hold they had had on Dare, loosening before falling to his waist. He felt like he had been trying to cling to sanity even as he had loved the loss of thought. His kiss changed from the raw desire and emotion to a bit of an apology at tensing, in his mind bringing about the end of the pleasure.

Dare extended the kiss just a while longer, assuring Michael through the motions that they were okay. When he finally pulled back, he couldn't seem to pull back all the way, and he ended in resting his forehead against Michael's, trying to catch his breath. He was amazed again at the sheer physical attraction between him and Michael, and how it seemed to flow from and with their friendship instead of as a separate entity.

Michael smiled, searching Dare's eyes as he tried to calm his breathing and his blood. He couldn't stop the slow movements of his hands up and down Dare's sides. It was all he could do to not kiss him again. He sighed contentedly and let himself enjoy the connection between them, that feeling that lingered after blazing to life during the kiss, that never really faded away, even when they weren't together.

Dare found his lips curving in echo of Michael's smile, though he couldn't be sure what the smile was for. But that sigh, and the feel of Michael's hands, the light tingle they brought, was enough to convince him not to think too hard about it. "You're cool, then," Dare said, though the words sounded more like a question than a statement. But he wanted to be sure he hadn't pushed it too far, wanted to be sure that Michael didn't hold any hard feelings over it. He wanted to make sure that Michael knew Dare didn't blame him for what had happened.

Michael nodded, "I'll loosen up eventually," he said, teasing at himself. His eyes sparkled slightly, though they showed a bit of insecurity left over from the small wave of guilt he had felt before. It was almost as if, by being with Dare, he had started completely over, starting back at square one on what he was comfortable with and what made him uneasy.

Dare didn't stop himself pressing a brief kiss to Michael's lips, then nuzzling his nose lightly against Michael's. "Take your time," he said softly. With his blood cooling, it was easier to remember that he was waiting, and that he and Michael hadn't gotten to a level yet where he felt like he should re-evaluate. In the heat of the moment, he always wanted more, but afterward, he couldn't be sorry, couldn't regret stopping. Not rationally, anyway.

It was strange that Michael felt just as good with Dare when they weren't being so physical as when they were, how it didn't feel uncomfortable with Dare so very close to him when they weren't doing anything. Simply, how much Michael just liked being with Dare. He didn't spare a thought for what could have happened between them, had they not stopped, it felt natural to stop, he knew that he wasn't ready for more, and doubted that he would be any time in the near future.

Dare didn't want the closeness to fade, so he slipped his arm back behind Michael's shoulders, and contented himself with light touches against Michael's face, a casual brush of lips, or the tip of his nose against the bridge of Michael's. It felt intimate, but he couldn't resist, and so he hoped that Michael would be okay with it.

Michael was okay with it, the light touches sent shivers racing through him. Though it felt almost painfully intimate it didn't bother him in the slightest, and his hands continued their slow, lazy motions over Dare's sides. He settled against the arm behind him, the comforting feel everything to him when the day had been so up and down, when the past two days had been so up and down.

Dare was in no hurry at all to end things, so he didn't, and for once, he didn't break the silence. He just enjoyed the closeness, the sensations that were undeniably pleasurable, but warmed, rather than blazed. There was no sense of time passing, just an ongoing moment between them that kept his eyes hazy and his blood humming. He let his hands sweep lightly through Michael's hair, let himself nuzzle and nudge, and kiss, let himself simply enjoy.

Michael didn't want the moment to end any more than Dare did, but he couldn't help wondering what Adara was doing and when she would be ready to go up to the castle when he saw the light changing through the window. He let the moment stretch as long as he could, enjoying the touches and the intimacy they shared, returning motions where he could and acting on last-minute thoughts to kiss and touch before sighing. "We should get Adara," he said softly, even as his hand ran up Dare's back.

Dare made a low sound somewhere between disappointment and resignation, then pressed one last kiss to Michael's lips before pulling back just far enough to be safe. He knew Michael was right. They couldn't exactly spend all night together on the couch, as tempting a thought as that was. He glanced sideways at the window, only then realizing how late it was getting, then turned back to Michael, his fingers still toying lightly with a lock of hair just below his ear. "You think they're alive in there?" he asked, his eyes laughing softly. There hadn't been a single sound from the room as long as they'd been out here, and though he realized that didn't mean anything, still, it was a thought.

Michael grinned and glanced over at the door, "Wouldn't surprise me if they wore themselves out." While he knew how hurt Emilian was, he also knew Emilian's appetite. He brought his eyes back to Dare's, really not wanting to break contact completely, though he knew it was necessary. He pulled himself from the couch, pushing his hands up over his head in a long stretch before looking back down at Dare, "You want to brave it, or do I have to do it alone?" he asked, humor sparkling in his eyes.
