Dare pulled a face at that. "Always, hm?" That implied they'd talked about that kind of thing quite a bit, though considering how much Emilian had apparently pushed Michael, he supposed it made sense. For all Dare knew, Emilian could've thought he'd impress Michael into giving in. "Well, if it makes you feel any better, I'm secure enough with myself that I don't get off on bragging." Dare's mind suddenly threw a literal interpretation of his words at him, and he dropped his gaze, though his lips twitched with the effort of not laughing at himself.

"Ugh," Michael said, wrinkling his nose at the idea. "If you ever brag about any past experiences I reserve the right to a backhand," he said, only partially teasing. He didn't care to hear about any of Dare's previous escapades, other than vague allusions to how far he had went, like they had already talked about. Then he noticed the hidden laughter in Dare's expression and tilted his head at him, trying to figure out what was so funny, nothing had clicked in his mind. "So yeah, it does make me feel better," he finished, though he was still unsure what Dare was not laughing at.

Dare risked a glance up at Michael, since there was nothing in his voice to imply that his mind had fallen into the gutter with Dare's, only to find Michael watching him curiously. Dare's lips spread into a grin, but he knew he hadn't been caught, so he didn't confess. "I swear, no stories unless you ask," he said, knowing that Michael wouldn't ask. He managed to temper his grin a bit as he picked himself up out of the gutter.

"Good, and if I ever ask, just," he stopped, searching for a proper punishment for Dare to use, "Slap me or something." Michael looked at him, grinning, if he ever asked, there was probably something wrong, though nothing a good smack wouldn't fix. He pulled Dare's hand over and traced invisible patterns on the back absently. He smiled softly, watching his fingers move, not trying to bring about any specific reaction from Dare, just letting them move.

"I'll do that," Dare said, smiling at Michael. He unconsciously relaxed a bit into the couch at the soothing motions of Michael's fingers, rather than sitting quite so rigidly, though if he'd noticed, he would have straightened again. Something about such elegant furnishings seemed to demand proper posture, something Dare was terrible about, and at the moment, somehow he let himself forget, just a little, where he was.

Michael leaned against Dare, comfortable enough in the relationship and in Adara and Emilian knowing that he didn't care if anyone came out to see them. He smiled at how easy it was to relax with Dare, he was always amazed at how easy it was to just be with Dare, something he didn't think he would ever get used to. "I really hope it works out for them," he said, looking over at the door.

Dare followed Michael's gaze, surprised at himself for having forgotten why they were here, though he realized the knowledge hadn't left him entirely; there were some things it was just impossible to forget. "The fact that it's so quiet should be a good sign," he suggested. He was silent a moment, then cocked his head a bit. "Unless she's smothered him with a pillow," he added. He didn't really think she would, but considering her apparent mood swings, he wasn't entirely certain.

Michael shifted and looked up at Dare, "She'd get halfway done and decide she didn't want to." Then he settled against Dare again and looked out over the room. "It'd be nice if her father would just leave," he said, though he knew it wouldn't happen. The man would fight for Adara, as he had already proven with Emilian. "I wonder if he knows Emilian is alive yet."

"God, I hope not," Dare said, leaning his head lightly against Michael's. "It'd be really nice to have a couple days' break before insanity breaks out again." Though, to be truthful, insanity was still broken out. Dare was more thankful than he knew how to express for the fact that no one had actually died, though it seemed that was a technicality, or at least a near-miss.

"Guess I should warn you, it's like this a lot around here," Michael said, glancing up towards Dare. "There's always something going on. There was Chase and Emilian, Emilian and everyone else, before that there wasn't much going on, but then back farther there was a lot of dark activity." He figured it best that Dare not get his hopes up for a quiet stay at the school.

"Oh, wow," Dare said, shifting his head to glance down at Michael. "You told me about all the hexing and everything, but I guess I hadn't thought much farther than that." He couldn't say he hadn't been warned. Michael had mentioned all the Death Eaters' kids that first day in the forest, though he could have been only approaching a reference to himself. "Doesn't it get exhausting?" Dare asked. He could hardly imagine how a person could stay sane if this was the norm.

Michael thought for a second, then shook his head, "No. Well, if you're not used to it, it's probably a little overwhelming, but there's downtime in between, most of the time." Though it seemed like lately everything had been happening very quickly, and constantly. "It's almost as if if there's nothing going on, then it's not right, just so used to it, I suppose." He shrugged, it wasn't so bad for him, but then, it rarely got so serious as a near-death.

Dare couldn't see getting used to it, but "I'll take your word for it," he told Michael. Michael didn't exactly seem the type to crave the kind of activity that was going on, but neither did he appear to be in a panic over it, so Dare just hoped Michael was right, and he'd somehow get used to being in constant mortal peril. Far more exciting in theory than in reality.

The bedroom door opened then, to reveal Adara, one arm wrapped around her body to support her chest, her free hand on the handle of the door. "Michael," she called softly, not truly wanting to interrupt, despite the necessity of it. "Emilian and I wish to speak with you, if that is all right?" She was calm again, sedate, if not yet able to be serene, the change obvious from when she had left the room before.

Michael raised his head and nodded, then glanced up at Dare. He didn't think that Emilian would have a problem with it, considering Dare was already so deep into what was going on, so when he stood he didn't pull his hand away from Dare's. He didn't know what they wanted, but he had the feeling it was something serious, so he didn't stall and crossed the room.
