Silver looked up at Michael, blinking. She's obsessed with that bastard Chase. He couldn't personally verify that, but he'd take Michael's word for it. "I...can't do that. I mean, if they're together, that'd be wrong, right?" The only reason he wasn't entirely sure of that was because Dru wasn't sure of it. Silver looked down at his hands against his notebook again. "Besides," he mumbled, "he kind of...it wasn't as bad as Emilian, but it was close enough."

"You're kidding me." That couldn't be good. If there was anything worse for Silver's confidence when it came to girls, it was even the possibility of another blow-up. Silver was worse about confrontation than Dare was; a hell of a lot worse. "But you said she kissed you, and I told you, she didn't mention a boyfriend, so maybe he's just a jackass, right?" Dare looked to Michael for support. He didn't know the guy, and couldn't for the life of him figure out what the deal was. Was the guy Dru's boyfriend, or not?

Michael sighed and tried to figure out where to start. He didn't think it would be beneficial to mention that Dru was his ex to Dare, so he left out that detail for now, if Dare asked how he knew her, then he would tell. "Chase isn't her boyfriend. He's this...." he trailed off, trying to think of a word to use, "I don't know what to say. But he's bad for her. He cheated on her when they were together, and then when they broke up he went right back to her for a friends with benefits deal."
"I don't doubt she likes you, Silver, she doesn't go around just with whoever. And I swear if you could get her to stop seeing him, I, personally would bow down in front of you because I tried for months." Michael hoped Silver went for it, Dru needed to be taken away from Chase, he didn't see any good ever coming from their relationship.

Silver didn't raise his gaze from his notebook. He didn't want to think about Dru being anyone's friend with benefits, didn't want to think about her putting up with something like that, and he didn't think Chase would see it as cut-and-dry as Michael had put it. "I'm just not that kind of guy," Silver said.

I tried for months. Dare wondered in what capacity, but pushed the thought away. At the moment, Silver was having a pity party, and he needed dragged out of it. "Listen, Silver. You can either pine away for her, knowing that this Chase guy is walking all over her, or you can be her friend and see what happens. Think about it. Which one sounds like the better choice, hm?" Silver had a backbone, Dare knew it, it was just buried so deeply that it took an absurd amount to bring it out.

"She can make rational decisions, if you were with her, even just as a friend, and showed that you'd be so much better for her than him then she would change over." Michael pushed away the little voice in his head that said she really did care for Chase and that there had to be something keeping her there. He glanced over at Dare and squeezed his hand, "If you want to be with her, you're just going to have to go for it."

Silver gave a heavy sigh. There was no arguing reason, and he'd just been given a lot of reasons to go for Dru. It was bizarre to think of it. Terrifying too, come to think of it. He didn't know the first thing about dating, about luring a girl; it all sounded incredibly unreal. If you were with her, even just as a friend... Silver lifted his head to look at Michael. "Do you really think it's that easy?" he asked. He knew how easy it would be to let himself give in; it had been so hard trying to keep distance.

Dare looked over at Michael at the pressure of his hand and smiled, the words warming him. His brother's pessimism ruined the moment, though, and Dare turned back to Silver with a snort of derision. "Silver, listen to yourself. I know how well you get along with her. Just forget the boyfriend. Say he punches your face in, Muggle-style; that's what you're so worried about, isn't it? Do you really think Dru would want anything to do with him after that? Face it, Silver. Just hang out with her like Michael says, let it happen, and you're golden."

"If she likes you enough to kiss you, then you've got a hell of a lot better chance than a lot of people do with the person they like. And believe me, if she wants to be with you," Michael said, "You'll end up together." He spoke from experience. Way back when they had first started being together he hadn't been willing, but she had pushed and pulled a low blow with the tears, until he gave in. She would try to figure it out, he knew. He hoped he wasn't giving Silver false hope, but he himself was hoping for Dru to leave Chase so much that he couldn't help it.

If she wants to be with you, you'll end up together. There was a thought. She'd suggested it, hadn't she? It was weird to think about. And you said no. Silver winced at the thought. At least he'd suggested trying to be friends. "I'll try," Silver said, keeping his gaze safely lowered. He couldn't believe it; he was going to do this. He, Silver Blackwood, was going to steal a girl away from an undeserving guy. It was almost laughable.

Dare's grin returned. "That's right," he said, leaning forward to playfully punch his brother's arm. "It'll be fine," he said. "Just be yourself and she's yours. Read her one of the poems you wrote about her." Dare grinned. "Don't pretend, I know you have, you've probably got pages of them." It was how Silver got things out. He'd obviously been thinking about this, so it just made sense.

Michael grinned, shifting backwards a little to lean against the tree behind him and pulling his knees up in front of him. "Oh yes, woo her with poetry." He was glad that he had been able to help, he just hoped that it worked out and that Silver didn't end up getting his hopes up and Michael be wrong about the whole thing. But, while there was the chance that Dru would stay with Chase, he knew the chance of her going with Silver was probably higher once she figured out that there were other guys.

Silver looked up at Michael skeptically, trying to decide if he was teasing him or not. If he was, it was good-natured at least, so Silver wouldn't hold it against him. He looked between Michael and Dare again, wondering at how comfortable they seemed together. They'd only been together a week? It was weird to think about, but only because of the novelty of it. Dare always had refused to run with the crowd.

Dare could tell just by the look in his eyes that Silver had lost the conversation. He decided to let it go; he'd convinced Silver--they'd convinced Silver-so there was nothing more to get out of it. He glanced aside at Michael, then back to Silver. "I think that's all the damage I can do for one day," he said, trying to lighten things again. "Maybe we'll just take off, then."

Michael looked over at Dare, he could live with that. He didn't know Silver very well, but he probably needed some time to think. "That's fine with me," he said, then looked back at Silver. "Let me know how it turns out." He doubted that Dru would see fit to tell him, so Silver would be where he would have to get the information. He let go of Dare's hand and pushed himself up, stretching then dusting off his jeans.
