Mari slipped out of the Common Room and towards the kitchen, something she always used to do. She tickled the pear and was glad to find that the entranceway hadn't been changed before going in. There she found houselves, many of them new, awake and having what seemed like a celebration. Mari laugh and took a seat unnoticed by the counter.

Liam walked by the hall where the painting with the pear was just as he heard the painting close. He looked at the painting and felt it gently, not knowing the pear needed to be tickled. He accidentaly tickled it and the potrait nearly smacked him in the face when it opened. He walked in and saw the kitchens, which he soon took a seat, hoping not to be noticed.

Mari watched someone else come in. He looked vaguely familiar. He also looked out of it. It was obvious he didn't see her, so she spoke. "Hello?" She asked hoping to get a better look at his face. Maybe then she would recognize him.

Liam was unsure that someone was there until he heard someone say hello to him. He looked and saw Mari there. "Oh. Hello Marisol." he said, smiling a little.

"Hi, Liam." Mari said with a small wave. She patted the stool next to her. "Come sit." She said. A couple of the house elves were beginning to realize they were not alone and scurried back to work.

Liam hesitated, but nodded and walked to the stool where Mari wanted him to sit. He noticed the few house elves scurry back to work. "They seem jumpy." he whispered to her.

Mari grinned and laughed softly. "It's because they didn't want us to know they were having fun." She said. "Maybe they get too many students that hurt them." She reached out her hand to touch one of the house elves' faces, but they moved away too quickly.

"Oh. That makes sense." Liam said before turning to face one of the house elves. To make the house elf feel more comfortable, he moved his hair out of the way, revealing his elf-ears to them, which seemed to relieve them. "Don't worry, we won't hurt you." he said, smiling a little.

Mari smiled too. "They don't deserve to be treated horribly. They help us so much. Without them, we'd starve and be living in a dump." She hated the idea of enslaving house elves. Her mother has quite a few in their manor and although Mari could not directly free them, she always tricks her mother into doing it.

"I agree." Liam started before remembering something. Since he was an elf, he was probably like an older brother to the other house elves. "Believe it or not...they are like siblings..to me.." he said, using 'siblings' as a bit of a metaphore.

"That makes sense." Mari said nodding. She watched one of the house elves start to mop the floor. "I feel like I should help them." She remembered when she was a second year, she did try to help them. They terror in the elves' eyes were so much of a shock to her. She actually had to fight the house elf for the mop.

"I know what you mean." he said before he made a move to try and help the house elf, but was turned down. He knew he should not try to fight as he did not wish to impose. "So...what do we do? It seems they don't want our help.." he said, thinking about what they should do.

"I couldn't figure that part out either. It doesn't seem right to just watch them do our work. I think some of the student even trick them into doing their schoolwork." Mari sighed. She didn't take her eyes away from the cleaning elf. She wanted to help them so desperately.

Liam thought for a moment and a supply closet seemed to catch his eye and he stood up. He walked to the closet but a house elf seemed to grab his robe. 'You don't need to help us.' the house elf said, completely devoted to his job and did not wish anyone helping when they did not need to. "True, but that does not mean I don't want to." he said, giving a soft smile. "You have helped the students out so much, we may as well return the favor, even if it is only once." he said before he picked up some cleaning supplies and started to scrub the floor, gesturing Marisol to join him with helping them.

Mari grinned. She slid off her stool and walked to the closet excitedly. She pulled a dingy dried up sponge out and soaked it in the soapy cleaning water. Mari literally got down on her hands and knees and began to scrub the floor and in between the tiles.
