Malcom ran down the stairs into the entrance hall. "He can't be dead! He can't be dead!" He finally reached the small door that lead off into the small room.

Cassie was just coming back in from her daily run when she saw Malcom rushing down the stairs. "Hi" she called, then hearing his cry she hurried over to him, Malcom are you ok, what happened?" she asked anxiously.

"It's CHAO!" he replied, as he flung open the door. There, on the floor was his owl, Chao, sleeping. Quickly Malcom reached into his pocket, and pulled out a bag of owl pellets.

Cassie took a deep breath, "Malcom, you need to calm down ok. You can't do anything if you're too worked up. What happened?" she said calmy and soothingly. She knelt down to look at the owl closely.

"Well, I was in the Hospital Wing, right? So, Chao was not fed, and sitting in the dark! Imagine how scared he was." Malcom had only gotten his owl a week ago, and cared for it lovingly. How could he had become so careless!

Cassie softened a little. Malcom was obviously just nervous and anxous about starting school and worrying about everything. "I'm sure he'll be fine. Owls are nocturnal, they are awake in the dark anyway." Cassie said reassuring Malcom.

With the change in lighting, Chao stirred. "Chao!" Malcom dropped a couple of food pellets through the cage bars. "Go ahead. Eat up Chao..."

Vannah was walking through the school. She started in the Entrance Hall and soon after found herself back there, but there were also two others. Vannah smirked as she saw them crouched over an owl one of them screaming what she assumed was the name. They were Ravenclaws, disgusting, she thought. "What's the matter?" She asked walking up to them feigning sympathy. They looked young. Vannah gasped dramatically. "Oh no! What did you do to them?" She asked pretending to care. For once, she wanted to give someone a chance. It probably wouldn't last....

Cassie looked up as she saw an older girl walk into the entrance hall. She seemed older than Cassie and was likely a slytherin although they had never met before. "Malcom was just a bit anxious about his owl" Cassie said simpering. "Everything's fine, you don't have to worry" she added with a sweet smile. She didn't trust slytherins, not after some of the rumours she had heard.

"Don't worry, I'm not." Vannah muttered, but not loud enough for anyone to hear. She smiled as well, it was fake of course, and it was also sweet...almost sickeningly sweet. She suddenly wanted to do something---anything. A jinx, or a curse maybe....Vannah bit her lip to her keep herself from blurting out a curse. It was always fun playing with the little children...

Cassie eyed the older girl warily, noticing her subtle actions. She turned to Malcom. "I'm sure all he needs is a little food and time to recover." Cassie said soothingly. Cassie turned to smile at Vannah, using the show smile she had perfected for use during performances, even if her feet were bleeding it never slipped and Cassie was glad she had been made to practice for hours. "You're so kind stopping." Cassie said her voice sugary. "I'm sure we can manage though, there's no reason for you to be inside on such a lovely day!" she continued.

The fakeness was obvious, well to Vannah at least. She had of course had a lot of practice. "Oh, I was outside." She said innocently. "But I don't think then this poor, dear, child had the misfortune of coming up behind me. I didn't meant to curse her....it was just a reflex. How terribly unfortunate..." She said keeping her innocent wide eyes and big sweet smile.

"Unfortunate" Cassie echoed, her brow furrowing slightly. "I'm sure we're fine though, too many people might scare the poor bird" she said, seizing an excuse for the girl to leave.

Vannah from the girl to the boy, "Oh...I'm not...erm. interrupting am I?" She asked sweetly. Vannah leaned into Cassie's ear and whispered just loudly enough for the three of them to hear. "No offense, dear, but isn't he quite young for you?" She had to bite down on her lip to contain her snickers.

Cassie stood back and gasped. Then without thinking slapped the girl hard on the cheek. Whipping out her wand she then threw up a protective wall to stop an attack. "Get out, how dare you suggest such a thing?" She was breathing hard as she tried to control her anger. Her eyes were a stormy grey and her nails dug into her free hand.
