Michael had the newest edition of the Prophet. Originally he hadn't intended to get one, but he had heard about what was in it and, since he wasn't able to borrow a copy, he had had to go out and get one himself. He had immediately flipped to the gossip column and with every word he read his nose wrinkled even more. When he read what one girl had said about Emilian, he put his head back against the tree he was sitting against. It had brought a flashback, memories of all the girls that had fawned over Emilian back home.
When he was finished with it, he read it over again, slowly, and his heart ached for Dru when he read about Chase. But she knew what she was getting herself into when she first wanted to be with Chase, and it was back in August, the last he heard they were still doing fine, even with the fiasco with Storm. He sighed and moved on, reading about Ryan, the lines about him made Michael raise his eyebrows, surprised, but only to an extent, he knew about Savannah and Pandora.

Gabby was walking by the lake, lost in her thoughts. She had been very absent minded recently and so was normally unaware of her surroundings. Suddenly she became aware of a guy, sitting by one of the trees in front of her. In his hand he was holding a copy of the Daily Prophet. Gabby groaned, knowing what gossip the prophet contained. She decided that she might as well talk to him. Gabby continued on her path. "Hi," Gabby said, quietly in case she startled him.

Michael barely glanced up, but nodded in recognition of her greeting. "Hey," he said absentmindedly, turning the page to keep himself from rereading the gossip column again. The change in words shook him out of the drone he had been in when thinking about the words and he looked up at her, "Sorry, I know most of the people in the gossip column this week." He gave a tired, lopsided smile and rubbed the back of his neck with one hand.

Gabby gave a weak smile in return. "You don't know me," she said. Gabby recognised that he was older, and would bet that he was a slytherin, recently both of those had spelt trouble for her. But for some reason today she didn't care. "I'm Gabby" she said, introducing herself.

"Michael," he said, "Where are you in this?" he asked, gesturing with the paper. Michael resisted the urge to reread it to see if a young Gryffindor girl named Gabby was mentioned. But of course, there were a lot of anonymous and unnamed people in the article. He hadn't focused very much on anything except the words about Chase and Emilian though, they were the two that most influenced him personally.

Gabby sighed, "Well, I might as well tell you since you would probably just find out from someone else anyway. I'm in there twice, the first is I'm the new agony aunt for the paper. The other time sin't as nice, I'm not named but I'm mentioned. You know the gossip about Ryan Magby in there being with all those girls?" Gabby paused a little to let it all sink in. "Well, I was one of those girls." Gabby finished. She gazed out over the lake, thinking about the past week and what had happened. "Do you mind if I sit?" she asked.

"Well, it's not the first time he's been with more than one girl." Michael nodded and shifted slightly as he folded up the paper. He had skimmed over the Agony Aunt column, not really caring enough to try to decipher who had written in. "I didn't peg him to do it again, but I guess once you do it once," he shrugged, the rest of the sentence could be assumed.

"The stupid thing is, I took him back, even though I know he still has feelings for the other girls, well mainly one girl but whatever, I still love him." Gabby bit her lip, she hadn't meant to say that it had sort of just slipped out. She sat down, wanting to extract a promise of silence from this stranger. "Would you mind not spreading around what I just said. It's a bit private and I didn't mean to say it but I've been a bit preoccupied recently and I haven't been myself really." Gabby looked at him, trying to read his personality.

Michael wouldn't deny that it was stupid, Dru had done the same thing. "He needs to get his act together, he did the same thing to Vannah, the paper announcing this to the school's probably the best that could happen to him. Watch him, you don't know that he won't do it again." He didn't make the promise, it was common knowledge that he was still lovesick for Vannah, Ryan didn't exactly keep his emotions secret, he'd tell anyone that would listen.

Gabby shrugged, "I know that in the end I'll lose and have my heart ripped out and stamped on, then ground into dust. But at the moment, I'm winning." Gabby leaned back against the tree that she had sat beside, listening to the peaceful buzz of the castle. She hoped Michael would mind her staying there, in her opinion they were both in need of some company.

"Well," Michael said, sighing and putting the paper down beside him, "You're better off with him than with some other guys in this place." He closed his eyes and leaned his head back against the trunk, resting his forearms on his knees. "It's pretty bad when I have to read the gossip column to know what my people are doing." It seemed as though they had shut themselves off from the world, he hadn't seen any of them in a long time.

"Your people?" Gabby questioned him, wondering what he meant. She didn't feel as if he would do anything like those other blasted slytherins had, she had had a knack of making enemies this week and hoped that trend wouldn't continue.

"Yeah, my people. That dick Chase is dating my ex, who I'm still friends with," he added, glancing over at her, a disclaimer so she wouldn't think he was jealous. "Emilian's, well, he's another story entirely. Adara is a friend of my girlfriend, and I'm friendly with Vannah." That was the rundown, if Gabby asked, he'd elaborate, but he saw no reason to go into detail unless asked. "And I've known Ryan for a while, too."

"I've never seen you here before, although I was away for a while, family emergency." Gabby swallowed, not going into any more detail. She turned her head to look out over the lake. This also had the added advantage of hiding her face which allowed her to regain composure.

"It's better you didn't know me before," Michael said dismissively. That line of questioning was strictly prohibited, she could ask all she wanted about the present, but Michael made a conscious decision to forget the past, before the boat party, and he refused to speak of it.
