Adara sat beside the lake, farther beneath the trees this time, leaning against one sturdy trunk. Her legs were tucked under her, leaving her cloak in a puddle around her. She had her journal out, and was smiling softly to herself as she wrote.
The gentleman warrior's eyes shone with some undefinable emotion, one which sent sinful flutters through the princess's form, but she could not look away, dared not break the spell...

Dru came out to the lake, a small smile on her face, eyes sparkling. The expression hadn't changed since the night before when she had left Chase. She came up to a place where she used to frequent, back before she was at the club all the time, only to find it already occupied. Usually she would steer herself away, but today she was feeling different. She walked up to the girl, "So, you're a writer too?" she asked, seeing the girl scribbling away.

Adara let out a small, surprised "Oh," before closing her journal guiltily. "It is a comfort," she admitted, "but an unfortunate habit." She looked at the girl with some interest, noting the brightness of her eyes and her infectious smile. "Do you write?" she asked, the words laced with far more interest than was proper.

"Yes," Dru said, sitting down, "Hope you don't mind," she added absentmindedly. "How is it an unfortunate habit?" To her writing was a release, whatever happened to her went straight to the pages of a book. Why someone would think it a bad thing baffled her.

Adara's head tilted curiously as she looked at the other girl. "Because ladies don't write," she said, as though it were one of the simplest facts in the world. "Well, other than letters and notes, and perhaps a journal," she added. Adara's fingers smoothed over her own journal, a small, soothing gesture.

Dru tilted her head, matching the other girl's movement. "I've never heard that before, most of the girls I know write, and not just journals and things." If she had been told she couldn't write, she would have had to leave, it would have been insanity to her. She was sure that the rest of her friends would feel the same way.

"Really?" Adara's eyes lit up at hearing that. Even if her writing was abfall, the idea of being able to write without guilt was exhilarating. "What do you write?" Her hands clutched at her book in an attempt to ground her, too keep her from floating away at the thought.

Dru looked at her strangely, she had never in her life see someone so excited to hear about writing freely. "It's according to how I feel, if I've had a bad day, it's more likely to end up a sadistic story, if I've had a good day then it'll be more positive." She grinned, if she had been more awake the night before when she had arrived in her common room she would have written something, and that would have been one that was kept under lock and key.

Adara nodded encouragingly. "What is that word you used, sadistic?" she asked, repeating the word carefully. It was strange coming across a word that she did not know. Her English tutors had been the very best her father could find. Adara looked at the girl with patient, wondering eyes.

Dru raised an eyebrow, but answered the girl's question. "It's like, getting pleasure from putting others in pain, or just taking pleasure in others' pain, whether or not you are the one doing it." She had had a reputation at one time for being very sadistic in her writings. Nearly all of her stories had creeped people out because of it.

Adara's dark brows knitted in confusion as she tried to understand what the other girl had said. "How can one take pleasure in another's pain?" she asked. Perhaps one could apply the word to the villain in a fairy tale she had read, but sadistic sounded different. "And you have written sadistic?" she asked warily. Adara was beginning to wonder about the students at this school, or at least about this girl and Ryan. They had seemed so nice at first...

"Yes, you could say it's my specialty. And your previous question answers why I do it." Dru had always written it, the mindset of people fascinating her. "The question 'why could one take pleasure in another's pain?' is one that I've explored in plenty of stories. Never really coming up with the same answer."

Adara's eyes cleared in understanding. This girl used her writing to understand the world, or to learn to understand it. "But there are really people who are sadistic?" she asked. It had certainly been implied just now. Adara's heart thudded at the thought that there could possibly be people like the villains in her beloved fairy tales, those who sought to destroy beauty and innocence for their own gain.

Dru nodded, "Yes, they're everywhere, in different levels. Some are just so bad that they laugh when their friend falls down. But then there's some...." she trailed off, she knew first hand how sadistic some people could be.

"Everywhere," Adara repeated, the word a soft breath of shock tracing a line of fear down her spine. She looked at the other girl, feeling a sharp stab of guilt for wondering if she could be trusted. But the girl wrote to understand, so did that not mean that they were the same? That the other girl was not sadistic? "What is your name?" Adara asked. If this girl was one of Emilian's friends, Pandora, Savannah, or Storm, Adara would trust her immediately, and there would be no reason to question.
