Name: Alsandair Cairr Verity
Description:
Alsandair is slightly above average height, having had a growth spur over his fourth year and the break following and has a leaner build, but is starting to gain more muscle mass. He exercises regularly, yet he never seems to gain any weight. His once short and spiky hair is now longer and hangs loosely around his face. His black locks are straight and drop just below his earlobes, but don't quite touch the base of his neck. Alsandair's skin, while still pale, has gained some color over the year as well. . Alsandair's nose is average sized and has a slight bump on it from when he broke it at age three.
All of the child-hood pudginess has vanished from his face, leaving a soft face and a rather long chin, both traits of his appearance that he inherited from his mother. He has a pair of hazel green eyes, given to him by his father, that are often times partially hidden by his bangs falling into them. His lean body and girlish features only serve to anger his father, as well as his deliberately provocative use of makeup. He is known throughout as one might call a pretty boy, knowing his personal beauty and not forgetting to use it.
On third finger of Alsandair's left hand, he wears a ring made of silver and inlaid with an emerald as well as six diamonds. The band is made of the purest silver that is shaped into an ancient Celtic design whose origins have been lost to the sands of time. A large emerald carved into the shape of a shield sits in the center of the ring. Three diamonds are set on each side of the emerald and are incorporated into the pattern. The emerald itself has been finely worked and etched into its surface is the Verity coat of arms. The blade and wand crossed over a Rowan tree has been the symbol of the Verity family for generations. Alsandair's father has a ring that is identical to his.
Personality:
People's opinions of Alsandair and his personality can differ greatly depending on the point of view of the person describing him. Arrogant, rude, impatient, conceited, vain, shy, quiet, manipulative, sly, stubborn, mulish, and standoffish are all words that have been used to describe Alsandair. Others, however, have described him as noble, polite, well-mannered, modest, out-going, patient, and open. The opinion of the person all has to do on how well they know Alsandair, whether he has any respect for them, and where they stand in opinion to his views.
To someone that Alsandair doesn't know that well, he may often seem slightly standoffish, or possibly just shy and quiet. He doesn't make friends very easily and can be very difficult to get along with, especially when you are not a pureblood. It is with the non-pureblood population where most of Alsandair's negative traits come into play. Because he believes that blood is important, he believes that anyone with muggle blood is beneath him and not deserving of his respect or attention. Because of his feeling of superiority over them, he can be arrogant, thinking them to not be as good as him. This can make him look conceited and vain as well because he is determined to appear better then those who are beneath him. Also, he will be rude with half-breeds and mud-bloods and will only take enough interest in them to insult them. The one exception to his ‘lack of interest rule' is when he can manipulate those who are beneath him into doing something that has some benefit to him.
Alsandair can be stubborn to the point of being downright mulish. Once he makes up his mind on something, he believes so strongly that his opinion is correct that it can be almost impossible to sway his way of thinking. He also isn't overly patient with others. He expects them to be ready when he is, or know everything that he does. He has zero tolerance for fools and idiots, or pathetic ‘everybody's equal regardless of blood' idealists. This is what will often lead him to be rude to other purebloods.
Once you know Alsandair and have gained his respect, however, his attitude and personality does a complete one-eighty degree turn. From birth it was drilled into Alsandair by both of his parents that he was to respect his elders and that he was to be polite and well-mannered else he would feel the sting of a ruler or belt when he got home. Because of this, if he wants to, Alsandair can be the picture of a perfect child. His manners are impeccable; he treats his elders with respect, he doesn't brag about his accomplishments, and is willing to wait all day for his father or mother to finish their conversation with an acquaintance before continuing on with their errands.
To the few friends that Alsandair has, he is fairly open and good-natured. He will laugh much more easily around them and is generally more at ease. With others of his social standing, Alsandair is also more out-going and is more likely to approach you then he would someone of a lower class. He also believes in honesty to himself. Alsandair knows that it's a mistake to lie to himself in order to make himself feel better. He won't let himself believe that it was someone else's fault that he messed up, failed, or made a mistake. That doesn't, however, mean that he won't let someone else think that. While he's honest with himself and with his father, he doesn't mind telling a lie in order to get what he wants.
Alsandair is also very intelligent, which in part could be what makes him so arrogant and vain. He knows how intelligent he is and he knows that it's more so then many other people are. This, in part, also contributes to his lack of patient for fools and idiots. He expects everyone to know as much as him and be able to keep up with him intellectually, even when he knows they can't. Alsandair also has a very good memory for things, which means that he is fairly good at spell work and dueling. Heis in very good physical condition. While his muscles and body isn't built in order to use brute strength, such as lifting boulders or the like, he has very good endurance for running and activities like that. He is also a very good flyer, but usually chooses not to partake in Quidditch.
Finally, Alsandair is very dedicated. When he puts his mind to doing something, he does it and will do it to the best of his ability. This is probably one of the reasons why he does so well in school. For the few subjects that he struggles in, Alsandair forces himself to study and learn what he needs to in order to pass the class. He is not very good at Ancient Runes or Care of Magical Creatures. He always has to work hard in order to do well in those classes. He is also overly critical of himself and because of this sometimes sets expectations for himself that are too high and could very well, at that time, be impossible for him to reach.
Alsandair also grows angry very easily. He doesn't have the best hold on his temper and will sometimes only keep it in check and keep himself from doing something rash by a sheer act of will. He also can be over-confident in his abilities. That or he underestimates his opponent. Either way, this can, and has been known to, land Alsandair into trouble. He usually isn't much of a team player, which can be difficult when he has to work with others in a group or on a project. This is also why he's not show much interest in Quidditch up until now. However with the gaining of more friends and acquaintances that he sees as equals, he's starting to rectify that and is actually thinking about trying out for his house team during his sixth year.
Background:
Alsandair lived a fairly happy childhood. He was raised mostly by his mother in Ireland. Up until the age of seven he and Lyra got along very well and usually played together nicely. However when he was seven, and Lyra was eight, he was sent to the O'Dwyr School for Young Wizards to Be. Lyra had already been attending a similar boarding school for girls. It was once he began going to the school that Alsandair began to distance himself from his mother and sister.
Towards the end of his fifth year, his father, who had run off to the England after Alsandair’s birth, came back to take him to England. He confronted his wife, who had carelessly been ignoring her youngest son, focusing her thoughts on the naturally gifted Lyra.
Having lived a rather spoiled childhood due to the fortune his parents had amassed through their various jobs, Alsandair had only ever gotten what he wanted, or at least had a say in his own future, a chance to change or influence what was happening around him. As his father showed up, having been absent all his life, this caused Alsandair to become slightly more irritable, and he distanced himself from his family overall.
After finally being forced to move to England with his father, Alsandair resigned to spend his summer studying, slowly beginning to make a few close friends, managing to spend all his time away from his own house. He applied for a transfer to Hogwarts.
Unfortunately, his anger directed at his parents and sister only led to his eventual dive into drugs. Having the mind not to kill himself, Alsandair had never been suicidal, he began to smoke cigarettes, much to the dislike of his father. He entered an almost rebellious phase over the one month before school started, smoking everything he could, enfuriating his father with the various girls.. and boys he brought home, taunting him endlessly. Over that month, Alsandair rarely spoke to his father, rather concentrating his attention on figuring out his place, both with drugs, and his sexuality, that he had yet to fully understand.
