"That must make it hard being away from him," Emilian said. "I was never that close to my family." No, he'd spent more time visiting the Hardts or with Mano than in his own home. Having a dedicated guest room at a friend's wasn't exactly common, but he'd sure as hell had one. "You should get one of those long-distance mirror communication things."

Aline shrugged again finished the rest of her vodka before scanning the line for their next one. "I'm used to it. He wasn't always available when I wanted him, but I don't blame him, he works hard," she considered getting a two-way mirror, but if she really missed him she could always just apparate to where he was. There was never a time when he turned her away because he was too busy. "I think my father losing my mother made him closer to me. I don't know if our relationship would be the same if she didn't pass away."

Emilian plucked out a bottle and offered it to Aline for inspection. "You lost your mother?" he asked, then finished his glass and cleared it for the next round. Turning his head produced a slight washing sensation in his head that was somewhat pleasant, his first sign of the few small drinks they'd had. "How old were you, if you don't mind. Sometimes I can be a little nosy." A small smile.

Aline looked at the bottle and nodded her approval, taking the bottle and unscrewing it and pouring them both more vodka. "We lost her and my brother when I was six, I don't remember him he was only alive for a mere hour, but I was allowed to see them both one last time," she didn't want pity for it. Aline was a child when it happened and she recalled her father grew distant and she didn't speak nor hear from him for a full year. After that he was a completely different person. "Other than that my childhood has been uneventful and fairly normal," or as normal as it could possibly get.

Emilian's eyes flashed briefly at that little detail. "Was it the birth?" he asked, only to immediately busy his mouth with the fresh liquor, taking something of a too-large drink. What was this? A woman slips in and knows Russian, wants to get his partnership in business, agrees to a visit...and had some facsimile of Adara's death in her past?

Aline wasn't too sure if it was the birth itself or her mother's health was always weak, but it probably was. "I suppose so. My father never told me much after and I never bothered to ask him," he was pretty out of it after it happened and till that day Aline never summoned the courage to ask what was the cause. "My mother was stubborn and my father was never around. From what I was told she refused any help from healers during her pregnancy and just kept herself locked in their bedroom," Aline was unsure why she said so much, but the vodka must be loosening her tongue just a bit. "Either way it's just me and father it's all I've ever known and it's not too bad. I have no one to compete with for my father's attention," it was a small joke knowing full well that she still competed with his business, but as his only heir it meant she was raised not just as a lady, but also as her father's protege.

"I doubt you'd have to work hard for attention from anyone," Emilian said. His eyes drifted over her to settle at her eyes. A hand made a move as if to touch her hair or hand, only to stop short and rub lightly at his jaw instead. "You must have been the apple of your father's eye." Such a cliche, but then again, it had been years since such things had escaped his lips. Lips were much more difficult to control than hands.

The first statement made her laugh a bit earning him a coy smile. "Quite possibly, I share the top spot for his priorities along with work. It can get frustrating knowing that she was competing with something so intangible, but at least she took priority when things got urgent. "He's been there for me when I needed him and vice versa. Him and I are a team and we work well together," their relationship could sometimes seem like a business partnership or friendship, but she wouldn't want it like a typical father-daughter relationship in society. Many girls didn't have the bond with their fathers the same way she did.

"A girl I knew, her mother died from childbirth, and her father just treated her like a thing, a way to get what he wanted," Emilian said, absently rubbing his gloved hand against his thigh as he did so. "Nice to know some fathers can get their heads out their arses after something like that. And I mean, obviously you work well together, you've gotten me on board," he added, the smile returning, then broadening slightly. Ah yes, just enough vodka to loosen lips. Speaking of...he tipped up his glass to finish it off.

Aline didn't flinch at the slip up of a curse, but she took note of it wondering if the alcohol was affecting him half as much as it was affecting her. At this point her cheeks were slightly flushed and she knew she would say more than she initially anticipated, but she wasn't stupid enough to give critical information away. Aline drank a little bit more, but by the time he was done she still had a little bit to go. "We do. He's more impulsive, I'm more... calculating," sometimes his impulses led to great sales, but there were times where her restraint saved them both from a disastrous decision. Finished off her vodka she shook her head to clear it reaching for a glass of water. There was no way she was going to allow herself to get wasted. "It can get robotic after a while. Your life is just a blurry image of meetings, work, and errands," some errands she wasn't too fond of, some being a bit too sketchy for her liking, but for her father and their business there were no limits to what she would do. "A change in routine is liberating; wouldn't you agree?"

Emilian nodded in understanding and agreement as he topped off his glass a little when she went for water. There was little doubt that his tolerance was higher than hers, and he could certainly stand a little more. "I've but a bloody lot of faith into my routine lately," he said, settling back into the couch. "It keeps me sane and in line. A change...is welcome, but it comes with its own problems."

Aline continued to drink at her water making sure she took her time to keep from getting too drunk; right now she was at a comfortable place. "It doesn't always have to. Some change can be good no problems," not that he was wrong. Aline paused it had been a while and she had enough water in her system. Aline reacher over for the bottle of oghi and poured herself a small cup deciding it was smarter to pace herself. "In fact, I'd like to think our newfound partnership is a good change," where was she going with this?

Emilian raised an eyebrow, then spoke before his brain was able to come up with a reason not to. "Of course it was," he said, "privately and personally." Danger, danger, not safe! But he pushed the mental internal warnings aside. He hadn't even touched the girl, so just how much danger could there be? For a brief second he raised his glass in a mock-cheers before taking a sip.

Aline looked down at her glass hiding the devious look that quickly appeared on her features. When she was sure it was gone and all that was left was a coy smile did she finally decide to speak. "I have no objections to getting to know someone more personally," especially him. Aline was building at something, but she was cautious with her words and right now she was toeing at the line.

"Even if everyone else thinks that that someone is a dangerous rogue?" Emilian asked, feeling closer to his old self than he had in a long time. Not that that was a good thing. And, of course, most people wouldn't call him a rogue, either, but that was beside the point. What harm could there be, really? Spend a night with her, refuse to let things go any further. One little slip...but he couldn't.
