Ocean walked across the grounds to the lake. This was her second time she had come here, she liked how peaceful it was. She had her guitar strapped over her back and was carrying her cat, Ebony, in her arms. Ocean smiled at the blue sky and the rippling water. She looked at her surroundings, the green grass bowed down to the wind.
Ocean sat down by the shore and let Ebony down. She watched the small, black cat run around and try to pounce on flowers. Ocean took her guitar off and started playing a light, happy tune. Her first few days here had picked up considerably. Although she only knew one person.
She continued playing her song, and closed her eyes, trying to soak up the sunlight. Ocean let her mind wander...

Rayne had been sitting under the shade of a tree with her cello case left open. She was left to her own thoughts legs crossed and fingers gliding over the cool white of her cello. She intended to play, but right now, she wanted to enjoy the serene calm. At first, she didn't hear it lost in her own thoughts, but soon enough she heard music from a guitar not too far in the distance. Rayne followed the source and was captured by how beautiful the girl played. Rayne pulled up her cello and kneeled with her bow in her right hand she first listened intently trying to picture in her heard the sound that would work with the girl’s song. After a few minutes, Rayne joined in harmoniously with the girl playing her guitar.

Ocean was startled, but she kept playing. She opened her eyes and looked at the girl playing music with her. The other girl was good, and her instrument looked well taken care of. Ocean listened to the music echo across the lake. She wanted to figure out the girls name, but she didn't want to disturb the music. "Hi, i'm Ocean, what's your name?" she said quietly. She hoped the girl wouldn't mind the slight disturbance in the music.

Rayne didn't immediately respond; she let her song drift off and gently placed the bow in her lap turning to look at Ocean. "I am Rayne," her Japanese accent was thick through her soft and tiny voice. Rayne stood up, preferring to be closer to the person she was talking to it was only polite. She picked up her cello and bow and made her way to sit closer to the girl. "You play beautifully Ocean." she complimented her eyes drifting over the guitar Rayne could tell that Ocean, much like herself, took care of her guitar.

"Thank you, i've been practicing" Ocean said smiling. She watched Ebony pounce on a dandelion. "So, what house are you in?" she said, she asked this question to anyone who stop to talk. She asked because she was actually curious, she wasn't trying to be a snob or anything. She just felt like knowing, would let her know the person better.

Rayne followed the cat with her eyes, she loved animals and watching the cat play around brought a smile to her face. "Gryffindor, you?" Rayne didn't spend much time in her house, she was the kind to keep to herself and say very little. Most of those in her house that she did meet never really bothered talking to Rayne, but she was indifferent to them. She welcomed Ocean's questions not used to having someone showing genuine curiosity. It was good to know there were still kind people out there.

"How crazy, i'm in Gryffindor too!" Ocean said excited. This was the first person she had met that was in her house. And Rayne seemed polite too. Everyone she had met so far was polite, Ocean considered herself lucky. Ocean realized that she had suddenly stopped playing, she picked up her light, happy tune again. "So Rayne, so far everyone i've met is really nice and polite, is everyone here like that?" she asked. She knew that of course there would be rude, evil people, what school didn't have those?

Rayne saw people around the common room, but none attempted to get to know her; not that she did either. It’s always easier worrying about less people, but sometimes she had to be willing to get to know someone. Rayne smiled at the girl her excitement was infectious.
The question threw Rayne off she shrugged her shoulders unsure of how to answer her. "I wouldn't say I'm the right person to ask. From what I hear, not everyone is willing to play nice." Rayne, however, did a good job of avoiding said people.

"Okay" said Ocean happily. She stared over at the lake, the breeze rippled the water softly. "How long have you been playing?" She asked gesturing towards the cello. "I've been playing since I was eleven" Ocean said. She looked down at her guitar and tried to concentrate on the music.

Rayne found the girl to be quite comforting; it was time she had friends in this school that still didn't feel like home.
Rayne thought back to when was the first time she picked up the cello. "For as long as I can remember," she paused recalling her oldest memories of her playing. "I started playing at 4," she had been mostly self taught and when her father saw her potential he got her a tutor. "Why did you pick a guitar?"
