"I'm considering expulsion," Chase said, leaning forward in his chair. He linked his hands loosely together in front of him, on top of the stack of papers he'd pored over before sending for the girl. He knew that Hells wouldn't let him expel the girl, but he'd considered it, and was still considering it.
"You're over twenty years old and by all rights you should have just taken your NEWTs on your own. I had reservations about admitting you in the first place. We have another student your age who causes nothing but trouble, but we gave you the benefit of the doubt and this is what you did with it?!" He pushed to his feet, eyes blazing.
"You went out partying, which I can't do anything about, but you made a spectacle of yourself, and I'd be damned surprised if this didn't end up in the Daily Prophet! You got so drunk that you barely made it in the gates and required a night in the hospital before you could return to your dormitory! Your parents will hear about this, the Ministry will hear about this, and every student at Hogwarts likely knows, which means that soon their parents will know.
"I've been fighting Hogwarts's reputation as a party school for years and was just starting to earn back some respect for the school where so many fought and died in the battle against You-Know-Who, and you made a joke of everything! You should be an example for the younger students, for your family! Tell me why you think you deserve a second chance." He crossed his arms over his chest and looked down at the girl expectantly.

Eiliyah’s head was cast downwards fingers on her temples her head was throbbing and now she had to sit through being scolded like a child—she was twenty years old for crying out loud. She listened not once attempting to make eye contact with the headmaster. She could hear what he was saying, but would she even listen? Probably, she’d be smarter about it next time and control her intake. It was his question at the end that finally brought her to look him in the eye hands dropping to her lap if it wasn’t for years of keeping a straight face she definitely would have winced at the look he was giving her. It took everything not to say what she really thought. She heard about the school’s reputation, heard about the wild things students did and she sure as hell read the newspaper so she knew more about the Headmaster and his not so innocent past and he got a second chance. Did she not deserve the same?
“You can’t know what it’s like to be cut off from civilization for years” she started it was time the diplomat and society raised child took over. She flattened her robes deciding to come wearing something less revealing than the previous night. “Can you blame someone for wanting a little taste of what she was forced to leave behind? Back home dance and drink is just a part of life.” she could understand his frustration; perhaps next time she got this drunk she’d just stay away from the school and stumble to her parents’ home. “I take full responsibility for my actions and any punishment you deem necessary I will graciously accept, but expulsion isn’t that extreme?”

Chase took a slow breath and straightened, his gaze never leaving the wayward student. "Headmistress Dumbledore is granting your second chance," he said. She'd granted him one, and he was now Deputy Headmaster while Emilian Sota wasted away alone in his Hogwarts shop. Eiliyah's words didn't change his mind in the least, but punishments had already been decided.
"I know what it's like to be distanced from Society," he said, the words tightly controlled. "I can't blame anyone for rebelling, but you must do so intelligently. Don't get into a condition in which you can't be inside the castle before the gates close, which is at midnight." He could have told her curfew, but whatever she thought, he did take her age into account. "Don't get into a condition which you'd be embarrassed by an article about in the media. This school is watched carefully.
"Don't enter the castle smelling like smoke or alcohol. Sometimes students try to get around curfew. You are a student, and will be treated like one. That means that being caught will lose your House points. It will bring you detention, and it will make it into your record. If you have any intention of being in politics when you're older, you have to know where the line of acceptability is, keep it in view, and don't cross it.
"This crossed the line," Chase reiterated. He hoped she was paying attention, because he'd just told her exactly where that line was. Being outside the castle after midnight? Too far. Being inside after curfew? Passable. Getting caught, passable, but only occasionally. And don't get caught drunk.
"Do you understand?" he asked.

He was right of course, but she hated being scolded like a little child and wasn’t used to it in the slightest. Her jaw clenched frustrated at her own stupidity, but at least he was understanding. Eiliyah just listened she always had a problem with authority probably because such figures in her past were corrupted jerks who used their power for personal gain. Eiliyah knew he wasn’t like that and was looking out for the school; plus he was right she did want to get into politics. It seemed she still had the freedom of coming and going when she liked as long as she was in the school before midnight… she could live with that. It was just one year after all. She sucked in a deep breath it would take her time to get used to such a different culture, but she was willing to assimilate.
“I understand.” She said finally the last thing she needed were the corrupt she had been avoiding show up on her parents’ doorsteps. If anything happened to her parents it would be her fault.

Chase gave a nod of satisfaction, and when he spoke again, his voice had some actual patience to it. "We'll protect you as far as we can, Miss Morgan, but our hands are tied you once you leave the gates. In the meantime, you'll have detention for two weeks and will see Kane on Fridays directly after your final class. Your meetings with him won't be long, I just want you to check in." Weekends were where most students tended to do their partying, where the ones who liked to stay out all night could get away with it now and then. Having her check in before the weekend meant she'd have a reminder, rather than a check-in after the weekend when things would need reported.
"I wonder if you realize how lucky you are," Chase said, narrowing his eyes slightly. "You'll report to Professor Evans in Greenhouse Three tonight at eight. If he keeps you out past curfew, he'll give you a note to show any other professors or prefects you run into." In which case, if her spellwork was good enough she'd have a free pass for the rest of the year, but he wasn't about to put that idea into her head.
"You're dismissed."

Eiliyah nodded wordlessly and proceeded to leave. Getting to the door she turned to open it before pausing briefly the door just a jar. A question popped in her mind as curiosity set in. "Headmaster I saw a man yesterday. He said he wasn't a professor, but he seemed to know his way around. Lip ring, dark look, he's hard to miss." it wasn't really her business, but she was such a curious creature it was hard not to take this opportunity and ask.

"That could describe a couple different people," Chase said. One of those people wasn't supposed to be on campus, but Chase wouldn't assume on a partial description. "You'll have to tell me more if you want to know who he is. Did he bother you?" Chase's eyes narrowed again, but this time it was for this non-professor. The top two people who came to mind were Trent Frey and Skylar Constantine. Chase, however, was not an answering service and wouldn't give a name just for the hell of it.

"No nothing like that, he definitely wasn't a fan of conversation. He just helped me find my way." Eiliyah shrugged she just wanted to know who he was to be honest, but there was an odd appeal about him she couldn't quite place. It wasn't her business, but it was odd that a person with no formal affiliation with the school would be there. "Don't worry about it, he was probably nobody."

Chase looked at the girl a moment longer, then gave a brief nod. If nothing had happened, there wasn't anything he could do aside from looking into it himself. Of course, if nothing had happened, it was probably Michael's friend. If she had nothing else to ask him, he had paperwork to complete and owls to send.
