Dare had expected someone more like Michael's other friends, with their elegant clothes and carefully-styled hair, and for a moment he wondered just how many people were here? The man had his sleeves pushed up, had piercings and dark eyeliner. There was no way he was any part of Society. Was there? "Michael?" he called, stepping into the living room.

Michael set down his now-empty glass and stood. He peeked around to where he could see Dare and a large smile spread over his face. "Hi, Dare!" he said. Hero stood, stretched, and trotted his way over to Dare. Michael followed, though without trotting. "This is Skylar, and this is Dare." And he was very glad to see Dare.

"He's got a few drinks in him," Skylar warned. He didn't think an official introduction was necessary, considering how obviously Dare Blackwood the guy was, but he offered a hand anyway. "Skylar Constantine. I know your family. Well, I knew them. Things have been sh~ for a few years."

Michael was looking very happy, and Dare caught the faint scent of some alcohol or another on him. He was distracted, however, at realizing that this actually was Skylar. And Skylar knew the other Blackwoods. "Dare Blackwood-Hardt," he returned, giving a firm handshake no matter that he was a little thrown. It took real effort not to look at the guy's forearm to see if there really was a Dark Mark in all that ink. "Welcome to Hogwarts."

"We've been talking," Michael said, though just what they'd been talking about might have slipped his mind by the time he was at Dare's side. "I showed him Hogwarts, he showed me how to take a shot. Well, he tried to, anyway." He still wasn't quite good at it, but there was always practice, right? Okay, maybe practicing wasn't the best idea.

"How much have you had?" Dare asked. Michael seemed to be in a very good mood, and talkative on top of it. Skylar, on the other hand, seemed mellow and casual. Dare didn't like the idea of some old Death Eater buddy getting Michael drunk.

"A couple glasses of good whiskey," Skylar answered. If Dare was going into a Blackwood temper tantrum, he wanted to cut this short. "Get some water into him and he'll be fine." Skylar had some hangover remedies of his own, but wasn't about to start writing down recipes.

"I finished that glass you gave me," Michael told Skylar. "And we've both had more to drink than I have tonight, I just had it a little quicker." And he wasn't nearly as drunk as Dare was the last time he'd come home drunk, at least he didn't think so. "The last time you came home drunk, I made you a big breakfast," he reminded Dare, looking up at him.

Dare's eyes widened a little, and he decided that going home was in both of their best interests. He'd have liked to find out what had happened, but he had enough of a reputation without drunk on top of it all.
"Thanks," he told Skylar, whether he was sure what he was saying thanks for or not. It just seemed like the thing to say. He called Hero to heel, wrapped an arm around Michael's back, and led the way back toward their tower.
"So you had fun," he said.

Michael slid his arm around Dare's waist and nodded. "I did, I'm glad I got to talk to him," he said. On second thought, he slipped his hand into Dare's pocket. "Hero and Ember hit it off, and we talked about a little bit of everything, it was a good evening." Even if he was a few galleons poorer. Well, he could handle losing some money, and he had Dare now.

At least Michael didn't seem completely blitzed. Ember was the daughter, Dare remembered, and looked at his husband curiously. "What did you talk about?" Had the drinking come first, or the talking? Dare was sure he didn't need details, but Michael just seemed so happy.

"I told him where Mano and Emilian were now, he remembered us and Eros from back then," Michael said. "A little about Death Eater things, but not a lot. He told me why he left the ranks." His eyebrows creased at that thought, something he didn't quite want to think about right now. There were other things they'd talked about, but he couldn't think of them with his current distraction.

"So you believe him?" Dare asked. Michael rarely talked about Death Eater stuff, and when he did it was always a big thing. Michael hadn't been left broken or hating himself as far as Dare could tell. He'd let the whole thing slide. He wondered about all of this, but really all he could do was talk to Michael and watch things work out.

Michael nodded. "I don't know how I feel about what he did, because killing is a big deal, but he wants to give Ember better," he said. He trailed a hand along the cool stone wall for the texture and the temperature difference. The warmth he'd felt earlier was still there, though he wasn't as aware of it anymore. "She's adorable, we've got to get her and the twins together."

Dare boggled for a moment before finding words. "Who'd he kill? Muggles?" That was definitely a big deal. Dare had asked Michael once if he'd ever killed anyone and had been relieved that he did't need to decide if he could forgive it. And Michael had said almost in the same breath that they needed to get the twins together with the guy's daughter.
