From the moment Riley woke up, she knew it was going to be tough to stay inside. The sun was out and hinted that spring was closing in on winter's long reign. As a seventh year, Riley knew that this time of the year was always the hardest for her to remain attentive in class. Even more so, this year she was so close to the finishing line and being done with school that she was in a constant battle to keep her mind from checking out of her classes. On this particular day Riley had a few classes to go, but knew that the lectures were just going to cover the readings she had already read. She made the decision almost immediately to play hooky for the day and take a trip to Diagon Alley. On the streets of Diagon Alley Riley walked around aimlessly. A few shops looked unfamiliarly open, but she didn't go in. Some days it was just worth it to be outside and free.

Mari probably shouldn't be in Diagon Alley, but maybe it was kind of sort of maybe a little nice to be alone every so often. Very, very rarely. Indigo was busy with some prefect duties and Castiel was in a class. Castiel was such a Ravenclaw. Though Mari hated that they weren't in the same class, he couldn't help but admit that it made sense for Castiel to be in Ravenclaw. He wasn't quite sure why he was in Gryffindor, though. "Hi, I really like your hair," he said when he saw a pretty girl walk past him as he stared in a shop window.

It took a few steps for Riley to realize that the compliment she had heard was directed towards her. She stopped walking and turned around to see the guy staring into a window. "Thanks," she stated and then took a second before asking, "Uh, I'm sorry but do I know you?" She couldn't recall a time when a random stranger called out to her without first a whistle and a corny pick up line.

Mari smiled brightly and came up to her, shaking his head. "No, I just liked your hair," he said. "My name's Mari. Well, it's Marius, but I normally go by Mari." Kawaii-Kun was another name, but it was only ever used by Castiel. He'd been teased before for how outgoing he was, but he never saw any harm in going up to someone to randomly say hi.

Riley tried to keep a straight face, but couldn't help but to crack a smile at this guy's enthusiasm. It had been a while since she'd met a new face around here. Many of her Hogwarts friends throughout the years had fallen by the wayside or seemed to disappear within the castle with the excuse of studying and figuring out life plans after graduation. Sure, she did her fair share of both and was rarely in the common room herself except to sleep but at least she came up for air when the weather was nice or when there were better things to do. "Well thanks again. Nice to meet you Mari," Riley brushed aside a piece of hair that had blown in front of her face, "I'm Riley."

"I've only ever heard that as a guy name," Mari said. "But then, a lot of people here pronounce my name wrong. My name isn't Mary, it's Mahri. It's not a girl's name, you know? Not that there's anything wrong with girls." Really, he didn't have a problem with girls. He decided to change the subject. "I'll walk with you, if you don't mind."

Riley chuckled, who was this kid? He was so foreword and yet she could see herself maybe liking this guy and his eagerness. "Yeah, I'm the only girl Riley that I've ever met too." Her mother liked unisex names, she remembered her saying that if ever she were to have a brother his name would have been Taylor. She nodded at his woes of mispronunciation and when he asked to walk with her she shrugged her shoulders, "Sure, I mean, I'm not going anywhere in particular but you're welcome to come with."

Mari fell into step beside Riley, thinking. "Have I seen you before? I go to Hogwarts, but I just started this term, so I still have no idea who like 90% of the students are," he said, looking over at her curiously. Of course, he'd also been very preoccupied with Castiel and Indigo.

"Maybe," Riley said, thinking that she also didn't know like 90% of the students. Even though she was a seventh year, she had never associated with some of the big names on campus. Sure she had heard of them, but her friend group had always remained drama free and thus seemingly invisible to many people. Just the way she liked it. "I mean, I go to Hogwarts too but aside from some classes and sleeping I haven't been around too much. What year are you?"

"Fifth year. My mom got a job here and we moved, my best friend came with me, too, which is super cool. I like the school, I mean, I've never seen snow before and it's everywhere." Snow was awesome. Cold wasn't awesome, but it brought snow so Mari could forgive the temperature. Plus everyone around him had cool accents.

Riley rolled her eyes, "You'll get sick of snow pretty soon. After a while, when it never ends, you'll be wishing for shorts and tank tops." It was a miracle that today she was able to get by wearing her jeans, a short sleeve shirt, and a sweater over it. "So, where are you from?" As annoying as snow could be sometimes she couldn't imagine growing up without it. Her first snow angel, snowball fight, and first sledding thrill had special places in her heart. Snow seemed so universal regardless of magic or muggle or from region to region.

"Florida," Mari said matter-of-factly. "I mean, it like never gets cold there. They say it stays cold here for a long time and the snow stays, too. I really don't see myself getting used to it any time soon." It would probably take years for him to even get used to snow, much less get sick of it. It was so fluffy and moldy.

"Florida? That's a pretty drastic transition." Riley had spent a summer vacation traveling the United States with her father one summer before she got her Hogwarts letter. It was a distant memory but she recalled how different everything seemed over in the states. There was suddenly a large, cold gust of wind and just as Riley's hair had started to blow all over the place she had taken her hair band off of her wrist and wrapped her hair into a low ponytail. At that moment she wished for the Florida sunshine and for warm weather.

"Definitely," Mari said. "If my best friend hadn't come it would have been really hard." He probably hadn't told Castiel how thankful he was os the guy's company, but he figured Castiel probably already knew. "Have you always gone to Hogwarts? There's lots of people I've met that are from other places, which is kind of cool." It had helped the transition a little.

Riley nodded, "Yeah I have." Though she thought that she hadn't truly been an active student until this year. "Is this your second school?" She had really wanted to ask about his friend and why he had decided to come with but, as open as Mari seemed, she didn't want to appear nosy. Riley also made a mental note to ask what house he was in, he seemed too sweet to be a Slytherin and too extraverted to be a Ravenclaw.
