Pansy strolled down towards the lake, it was well past midnight as the moon was high in the sky and the grounds where deserted. The dark thoughts had been following her around all day and she was really getting sick of them. Always looking over her shoulder Pansy was parinoid to the max! Reaching the lake she spotted a large tree and sat by its thick trunk. "Youre nothing but a failure.....You'll amount to nothing!!.." the eerie voices bellowed in her head, then came the familiar darkness, the click of the big metal door locking a sound she would always remember and then came the pain happening again and again... Gripping her hair tightly with both of her hands Pansy let out a scream. No one would come to her rescue, not then, not now! She took out her packet of cigarettes and fumbled through her pockets looking for matches or something.. Pulling out a muggle lighter she lit the end of the cigarette and inhaled deeply. Placing the muggle device back into her pocket she pulled her hip flask out and took three swigs from it. The warm liquer and the smoke muffled the sounds in her mind. This was the only comfort for the day/night mares that tormented Pansy's every moment. Taking another draw from her cigarette and stared longingly into the deep dark waters of the lake, she wondered if she jumped in and didn't surface, would that stop the terrors from her past, would anyone actually care if they didn't see the weird green haired girl lurking in the corners just completely disappeared into the darkness?

Brindle hadn't heard anyone go past her, deep in concentration as she was. One, two, KEEYAH! She was practicing her butterfly kicks in a clearing, and though she'd managed in her martial arts class, it was more difficult on the slightly uneven surface of dirt and grass. She tried it again, throwing a punch in the direction of the nearest tree, but at the sound of a scream, her heart had stopped.
It hadn't happened again, but it wasn't something that she could ignore. She'd grabbed up her book bag and struck out of the tree line and toward the nearby lake.
It brought back thoughts of things she hadn't seen, but had worked to protect against. Her brother had nearly died in that attack, and though it terrified her to think of interrupting something like that, she could, and she would.
The green-haired girl sitting by the tree was familiar; it was impossible not to notice such colorful people, even at Hogwarts. The smell of smoke as she neared nearly choked her, however. She wrinkled her nose, but held back any obvious comments about how bad smoking was for you. She was sure every smoker had heard it a thousand times and wasn't here to pick a fight.
"Did you hear someone scream?" she asked instead. Oh, it smelled so bad, and with her lungs already worn from her workout, it was difficult to breathe in.

The sound of the girls voice broke Pansy's thoughts, she was on her feet with her wand out within seconds. She was always taught to be quick as you never know when trouble will arise. Seeing the girl as no immediate threat Pansy tried to make her brain process what the girls question was. "Um..Yeah sorry it was me. I didn't know anyone would be around at this hour." Pansy replied after a few moments, lowering her wand to her side. She inhaled the last bit of her cigarette and flicked the butt into a nearby bush. "This girl probably thinks I'm slow and a mental case!" she thought to herself. Crazy, yes maybe but Pansy wasn't slow she wasn't allowed to be.. Sliding back down the tree, Pansy sat knees up to her chest with he arms around them. Her wand on the right side of her just encase the girl wasn't so friendly. "What has you out so late at night? You don't look like the mischievous type that would be up to no good." Pansy asked in a hushed voice, "Maybe she has more friends around and if I make an attempt on the girl she'll call for reinforcements and there isn't a chance I could handle it!" These sort of thoughts began clogging up her head, she shook her head as if it would really help..

"Just, um... practicing some things," Brindle said, eyeing the girl warily after that brief introduction to a wand. She hadn't had the time during the day, not with her professors cramming in as much end-of-term work as they could, but her brother wasn't in school anymore, and so her rebellious Gryffindor streak had whispered that if she didn't get caught, she could still get her practice in.
"Are you okay?" she asked the other girl. "Or was that a stress-relief scream or something?" She paused, then sat down cross-legged nearby. That blasted cigarette was gone, and she knew the air would clear up soon.

"Eh well sorta stress relieving method I have, seems to have worked slightly." Pansy replied trying to brush the incident aside, she wasnt for discussing her private life with a stranger at this time, she had before and it just left her in a bigger mess than she was already in. "What could you be practicing at this time of night? Your night vision?" Pansy asked jokingly. Seeing the girl settle down on the ground she stowed her wand into her pocket. Pansy rubbed her face with her hands trying to focus on the here and now. Taking another swig from her hip flask she held it out to the girl, "Do you want a drink?" Pansy didn't want to seem rude and was trying with all her might to be friendly.

"Um, sure," Brindle said. She had her suspicions that it wasn't something she was supposed to be drinking, but a little wouldn't hurt, right? "I'm taking martial arts classes in London, and I thought it'd be a good challenge trying it out at night. I mean, what's the chance anyone's going to need something like that in perfect lighting on a smooth surface, you know?"
She took the flask, figuring it couldn't be anything poisonous since the other girl had just had a drink, then brought it up to her lips. It was nothing like the stuff she'd had when Dare had that housewarming party, though. It was all she could do to keep it in her mouth, and though she swallowed the burning liquid, it left her coughing as she offered the flask back. "What was that?" she asked.

Pansy allowed the girl to take the flask, "Martial arts?..Wow that seems pretty cool." she nodded in agreement. It seemed an unusually occupation for a witch. "So are you like a black robe or something?" Pansy wasn't too sure on muggle terms. "That's a good point, when are you ever going to confront someone on a soft mattress?" she laughed taking back her flask. Seeing the girls reaction made her laugh, "it's Schletters Fine Whiskey, strong stuff, sorry should have warned you it's a bit tough for first timers." Pansy had forgotten she had been drinking the stuff for years and had become immune to the liqueur. "The names Pansy by the way" she added holding out a hand for the girl to shake.

Brindle coughed a bit more, then took Pansy's hand in a firm shake. "I'm Brindle," she said. "I know, it's a weird name, but I guess I'm weird too, so whatever, right?" She smiled, then took a long pull of the fresh night air.
"I'm not a black belt yet. I've got a blue one, and I'll be trying for brown this summer. Then black." So she really wasn't far off in the scheme of things. "My dad thinks it's just a bunch of throwing yourself around, he thinks it's cute." She hated being patronized, but that was just the way he was. "But, you know, if you get disarmed, or if someone grabs you and you can't get to your wand, it's kind of handy being able to flip them and get them in a headlock." She felt like she was bragging, but really, that was why she'd started in the first place.

"Ha weird?" Pansy repeated whilst pointing to her hair, "Well weird is better than boring any day" Pansy smiled "Ah belts I knew it was some form of clothing! Oh well your nearly there then" she said happily, "I would have loved to have some sort of hobby but I was never in the same place long enough to begin anything." she grimaced, she hated thinking back on her past. "Maybe you could show me a basic defencive skill? Only if you have the time that is? Could also benefit you having an opponent? I can't do martial arts but I can put up a fight." Pansy grinned putting her hands into fists in front of her face and make joking jabs in the air.

"That's be great!" Brindle said, vivid blue eyes sparking. She gave a teasing grin. "I'd have to go easy on you, but it'd be good trying something unpredictable." Just the way Pansy gave those joking punches told Brindle that the girl knew a completely different way of fighting.
"And yeah, I've got time," she went on. "My brother graduated and went home last year, so I can pretty much do anything I want. I just don't know what to do!" Gryffindors had a reputation of being brave, and of being rebels, with or without a cause, but she'd been protected her entire life and didn't even know what to do with her freedom!

Pansy beamed he was so excited to try something new, "Brilliant! Let's get started." she stood up taking one last swig from her flask and tightened the cap. Placing it in her pocket she removed her leather jacket so she was just in her hoodie, more freedom she thought. Laying her jacket down where she sat she walked over to Brindle and offered her a hand up. "I'm sure this will give us both something else to do in our spare time." she grinned least there would be something for her to do which is actually helping someone for once.

Brindle grinned back at Pansy as she took that hand, then pulled to her feet. She wasn't wearing any kind of jacket, since she'd been moving so much, and her own hoodie was stuffed into her book bag. She was, however, still wearing her heavy boots and her arm warmers.
"Okay, you attack, I'm gonna block," she suggested. She could block about anything at this point and had a high tolerance for pain, but she could do some damage and didn't want to knock Pansy's head off or anything. There was a big difference between sparring and actual fighting.

Pansy notices Brindle was quiet light but firm whilst helping her to her feet, proving she was a fighter so she had to watch herself encase she got seriously hurt. "If you tell me to attack does that not spoil the whole surprise attack?" she said with a hint of sarcasm. She parted her feet with her left slightly in front of the right and placed her hands now in fists up in front of her chin. Preparing herself she bounced from one foot to the other a few times before sending a mean right hook in Brindles direction hoping she was ready in time.

Brindle's left forearm shot up like a reflex to block the punch, and she grinned again in the heartbeat before her knees bent to give her more control. "I could turn my back," she said, loving the extra concentration it took to talk while doing this. "But you wouldn't get in more than one punch before I floored you." One of the first things she'd learned as a white belt had been how to flip someone who grabbed her from behind. There was no feeling quite like knocking a man twice her weight to his back.

Pansy felt the pain of the block shoot up her arm, she didn't flinch her adrenaline was beginning to kick in. "Must be the whiskey getting to me." she thought. "Okay we will try that then, turn around.." Pansy said twirling her finger in a circular motion to Brindle. Pansy took a few steps back and shook her arms and legs losing them up for her next move. Eyeing the back of Brindle up she was going in for the kill. Stooping slightly Pansy planned to run towards her grabbing Brindle by the waist and get her onto the ground. Well that was her plan.. Pansy charged arms outstretched hoping to achieve her goal..
