The castle was enormous, and it was so easy to get lost! Hyacinth had found the dungeons, had found the Potions Professor for his first private lesson, but somehow he'd taken a wrong turn on the way out and now he was hopelessly lost.
He'd taken a staircase up, but there were no windows, and he felt like he was still below ground level. His right hand clutched at the rosary which hung against his shirt, and his hair had chosen a deep black color, as though it could camouflage him in the dim corridor and keep him safe.
But safe from what?

Savannah stepped out of the Slytherin Common room with a letter in her hand. She didn't bother looking up. There wasn't much traffic in the dungeons, but if she did run into someone because of her own carelessness, she'd apologize and keep going. She didn't give two craps about the people at this school. She was doing what she needed to do to get out of there and no one else really mattered. She read the words on the parchment in her hand over again. This couldn't be real. Chase is getting married. She thought to herself. Did that mean the world was also coming to an end? She didn't imagine in a million years she'd be seeing a wedding announcement for Chase Firebrand, but there it was. Savannah rounded the corner. She didn't really know where she was walking, she was just going. Her ultimate goal was the Great Hall for some food, but she was far from there. As Savannah turned the corner, she thought saw a shadow out of the corner of her eye. She jumped at the movement of the shadow, startled that someone else was there. Her hand flew to her chest as her heart pounded. " Oh!" She exclaimed in surprise. She didn't see anyone right away, but if she squinted, she could tell they were there.

Hyacinth gasped at the sound and jumped back, startling his hair a bright white. "It is o.k., I am here," he said, waving his hand slightly for whoever was near to see him better. A small mewing sounded from the hood of his robes at the excitement, and he reached back over his shoulder, catching a fluffy, palm-sized kitten in his hand. He held Remiel close to his chest with one hand and his cross with the other.
"I am sorry, I cannot... make light." He'd had countless things explained to him in the few days that he'd been at Hogwarts, and he knew now that he could make light with his wand, but he hadn't gotten as far as learning how yet. He was being introduced to an entirely new world, and as fast as it all seemed, there was still much he didn't understand.

Vannah drew her wand when the other person spoke. She learned not to trust anyone, even if the voice did sound small and not at all belonging to someone who would harm her. She rolled her eyes in the dark when the boy, at least she thought it was a boy, confessed to not being able to use a simple spell. "Lumos." She hissed as the tip of her wand lit up. She squinted at the boy. He was unrecognizable and there was something fluffy in his hand. Savannah neither smiled nor glared at the boy. She was indifferent to whoever he was. She figured she should have said something to him, but she wasn't exactly the best conversationalist. "Are you lost?" She asked in a monotonous tone. She didn't really understand what he was doing down there if he didn't know where he was going.

"I am lost," Hyacinth said, blinking at the sudden light. "I am new to the castle and I can not find my way from Professor Cynster's classroom... out." He gestured upward with his free hand, then set to stroking the tiny kitten, which immediately began a soft, soothing purr.
"You are in Slytherin House?" he asked, noting the crest on her robes. Oh, what was it that he'd learned about the four Houses? There was brave, hard-working, intelligent... "Slytherin is ambitious, is that the word?" He would definitely be taking his English lessons seriously. He was able to read it easily enough, but speaking it was still difficult.

Savannah jumped back when that thing in his hand began to move and make noise. She wasn't really expecting it to be something that was alive. The more she stood there, the weirder everything got. She nodded when he mentioned just how lost he was. She was no good at directions and, really, it wasn't her problem that he didn't know his way around. "Maybe you should go back the way you came from and start over." She suggested.
Savannah nodded. She had looked over the obvious Ravenclaw apparel. They were all smartasses and she didn't have time for that. "Something like that." She said without too much emotion. Savannah was hardly ambitious anymore, and yet there she was. Still in the god-awful house.

"I am sorry if I have offended," Hyacinth said, his brows drawing together slightly. The few people he'd met so far had been friendly enough, but he felt as though he was having to struggle to get any response from this girl. He didn't know the reputation of Slytherin yet to blame it on that, or to group her up with her Housemates.
Perhaps he would take her advice instead of bothering her any further. He wasn't entirely certain that he could find Professor Cynster's classroom, considering that he was lost, but he couldn't very well get more lost, could he?

Savannah narrowed her eyes. If there was one thing she hated more than a person that was too confident, it was a person that was not nearly confident enough. A part of her, a very small part, pitied him for being lost in this monstrous place with only her to rely on for help. The rest of her was annoyed that he assumed he did something wrong.
The Potions room wasn't that far away. He could easily get there with a few turns, but it was in the opposite direction that she was going and Savannah didn't exactly feel like playing tour guide. If he went back the way he came, perhaps he'd find someone who actually cared enough to lead him straight to Professor Cyn. That was the deal with Savannah. She stopped caring about every little thing. She worried about herself and that was all. "Fine." She said, in response to his apology. It was all she could do to keep from snapping at him for being so quick to apologize.

Hyacinth looked at the girl warily, then murmured a low thank you for having taken the time to listen to him, even if the girl hadn't given him the help that he'd hoped for. As he walked away, he tucked Remiel back into his hood, then brought out his wand and began attempting that light spell.

Savannah shrugged, hardly listening to his gratitude. After all, she preferred praise. She flipped her braid over her shoulder and kept on her merry way. The people at this school were so odd and she could hardly wait to leave. She had overstayed her welcome and she was ready to move on with her life. The fact that the kid couldn't be more than a few years younger than her and looked like a little kid told her it was her time to go. This encounter was a bit of a wake up call for Savannah and she appreciated that much of it.
