Warm, Hyacinth thought. Like an old friend. That was something he knew little about, having never had a close friend. He had rarely had troubles at school, but there had been enough early on that even when his peers no longer recalled why he was the odd man out, he still was.
This third wand was a bit heavier than he'd expected, dense and slightly red wood. He gasped in the moment before his hand touched it, the magnetic feel momentarily erasing his insecurities.
The magic he worked so hard to stopper up moved in a rush through his hand, through the wand, exiting in a bright glow that had him murmuring familiar prayers. This was it. This was definitely it.

Donovan smiled, this was what he lived for. It was always good to find a wand, and there was a certain charm in introducing one of that age to their wand. He gestured with his own and sent the others soaring to their spots. "Well, you'll never give the Ministry any problems," he said. "Rowan doesn't approve of dark magic. Or, well, bad people in general." It was almost to the point he avoided those with rowan wands, they were always trying to help.

"Dark magic," Hyacinth echoed. Doesn't approve. "So it is a good wand?" It felt good, felt right, like having a piece of his family. It felt safe, and though his hair was shifting again, slowly streaking with the blue of his namesake, he felt somewhat at ease. He looked over at Jory, as though for approval.

Jory had a broad smile on his face. "Congrats, do you feel better now?" He remembered getting his own wand. He hadn't been able to let it out of his sight for a week before his mum had forced him to put it away for fear of accidentally shooting off some magic.

"Yes, it is a moral wand. All my wands are good quality," Donovan specified. It was being nitpicky but he couldn't help it. The boy's hair once again changing color distracted him, however. "Are you a metamorphmagus?" he asked, his eyebrows coming together in confusion and curiosity.

Hyacinth had nodded enthusiastically at Jory, and filed away what sounded like a compliment more than a correction from the shopkeeper. A moral wand. That put him even more at ease, a sign that morality and witchcraft could work together.
He was distracted by hearing that word again, one he now recognized, but didn't think he stood a chance of being able to repeat. He looked up from the wand, his wand, and nodded again. "Jory said that I might be," he replied, though he was still unclear on precisely what the word meant. "Is this wand okay for me if I am one?" And was it different from being a wizard?

"As far as I know there aren't any limitations on what kind of wand a metamorphmagus can have, it's just a special talent," Donovan said. By now all the wands had settled back into their places. "Now your wand comes with this case and a basic cleaning kit, but you can get more advanced accessories, if you want." He didn't see the point in a fancy case but it was a pain not to offer them, since so many seemed to think it a necessity.

Hyacinth's gaze dropped, and he shook his head. "I will buy the wand only, please," he said. His parents were already working very hard to provide him with this special schooling, one in which he needed all new supplies rather than his older siblings' hand-me-downs. He wouldn't add to their burden by purchasing unnecessary trinkets.
He set his wand back into its velvet-lined case, which was beautiful in its simplicity, as far as he was concerned, then began the task of shrugging out of his backpack and digging inside for the canvas pouch filled with odd coins that his old teacher had given him once they'd parted together for his journey to London.

"You usually won't need a case, anyway," Jory said. "Mine stays in my pocket all the time. At night it's in the top drawer of my dresser, or under my pillow, depends." More and more often he was comfortable having it within arm's reach rather than under his pillow.

"Aye, and don't put it in your back pocket until you figure out how to control your magic," Donovan said from where he was behind the register, putting in the information. The wand's stats were already recorded in the ledger by the boy's measurements.

"Why?" Hyacinth asked the shopkeeper. And in what pocket did one carry a wand? They were hardly big enough for hands, let alone a lengthy piece of wood. Still, it had been such a strange relief holding it that he wouldn't think of arguing the point. Rather, he gave a questioning glance to Jory, then dumped out a stack of coins, hoping that the shopkeeper would simply take the correct amount and leave him the rest.

"I take it you're not from the city?" Donovan asked. "It's fifteen galleons, that's all. Don't go around dumping out all your money like that. And you don't want to be on the receiving end of a wand going off that close to your bum." He didn't know of it really happening to anyone, but it was better to be safe, he thought. He counted out fifteen galleons and dumped them into the register.

Hyacinth shook his head. "I am from Luxembourg," he said. "This money is strange to me." Perhaps he'd ask Jory to help him for the rest of the trip, as he couldn't begin to guess how much any of the coins was worth, even if he was able to keep the names straight. Wasn't a galleon a unit of measurement?
He scooped the rest of the money into the pouch and closed it before finally just asking where he was supposed to put his wand. When he'd been shown and managed to put his own away, he made room in his backpack for the wand box and cleaning kit as well. "Thank you," he told the shopkeeper.

"You're welcome, enjoy your wand," Donovan said. "I hope it serves you well." It was one of the most sincere things he could say, and the wish went out with every wand that left his door.
