Name:
Hyacinth Noah Duprel
Year you wish to be in:
5th
Description:
Brown hair, blue eyes, narrow chin, pale, and thoughtful-looking. Confused and rather sporadic metamorphmagus. Hair often changes color depending on mood, difficult to control.
Personality:
Hyacinth is quiet, introverted, and intelligent. He is desperately eager to please, and to do the right thing. He is insecure, and shows signs of obsessive-compulsive disorder, though at fifteen he hasn't been diagnosed as such. He is very attached to his family, and will need guidance through his transition into an acceptance of the wizarding world.
Background:
Hyacinth was born to a large Roman Catholic Muggle family in Luxembourg. He attended one of two Catholic schools in the country. Occasional bursts of unexplained events around him brought fears of possession, though he is still greatly loved by his family. They received a letter from Beaxbatons the summer before his eleventh birthday, but, thinking it a hoax, he was never enrolled.
He was discovered recently in school by a Squib teacher, who recognized that seemingly supernatural powers and odd occurrences were actually uncontrolled magic. The teacher suggested to his parents a school for "gifted students" and, unknowing that they'd received only part of the school's information, he was sent to Hogwarts to begin another kind of education. As children in Luxembourg are only required to go to school to age fifteen, he was able to transfer without any suspicion in the Muggle world.
Hyacinth speaks Luxembourgish, French, and German fluently. He has learned English in school, and though he still has quite a bit to learn, he is fluent enough to mingle with the student body, and to follow along in classes.
Wand:
Rowan and Phoenix Tail Feather
Rowan wood (21 January to 17 February) has always been much-favoured for wands, because it is reputed to be more protective than any other, and renders all manner of defensive charms especially strong and difficult to break. It is commonly stated that no Dark witch or wizard ever owned a rowan wand. Rowan is most happily placed with the clear-headed and the pure-hearted, but this reputation for virtue ought not to fool anyone - these wands are the equal of any, often the better, and frequently out-perform others in duels. Its associated elements are earth and fire.
Phoenix Tail Feather: The phoenix is a sacred creature born of earth and fire. Perhaps one of the most ancient of firebirds, the phoenix is also one of the most magical creatures, thought to possess healing powers through its tears. The tail feather of a phoenix would be a wise choice for one who wishes to cast protection spells or lasting charms. It would make an excellent companion to woods that draw from the elements of fire and water.
Anything Else:
Named after St. Hyacintha of Mariscotti, a nun from a noble family who supplied herself with comfortable food, furnishings, and other goods, until a confessor arrived over her sickbed and advised her to live humbly. She became penitential and especially devoted to the sufferings of Christ.
Francis of Assisi said, "Blessed is the servant who would accept correction, accusation, and blame from another as patiently as he would from himself. Blessed is the servant who when he is rebuked quietly agrees, respectfully submits, humbly admits his fault, and willingly makes amends" (Admonition XXII).
Hyacinth would like a professor to volunteer as a mentor, if possible. A student mentor would also be appreciated, in addition to, or in place of, a professor.
