Nova eyed him for that, not particularly liking the hint in his voice that was talking down to her over it. She held her shoulders a little straighter. "We never gave it a name," was all she said on that. "What good are those tips if I don't know where to start, anyway?" Apparently warming up meant defensiveness.

"Huh?" Indigo gave yet another glance, and this time, his look away came with a slight furrowing of brows almost entirely hidden by his hair. "Oh yeah, getting around Hogwarts, sorry." He didn't know what he'd said or done to get that tone of voice from her, but decided he'd better keep his eyes down, just in case. "The castle's really old, so I guess a lot of people have put up charms and stuff that just stayed, or that no one could get rid of. It's pretty awesome if you want to get lost, but...
"Sorry, anyway, the Great Hall's over there," he said, gesturing toward the tall, broad double doors nearby. "We all eat there, there's a table for every House. Potions is in the dungeons..." He was perfectly fine telling her what floors the main classes were on, but kept his gaze anywhere in the entrance hall except on her.

Nova liked the idea of being able to get lost if she needed to. "So where do you go to get lost? So I can barge in whenever I want to, of course," she asked. "Is the lake worth getting in when it's hot?" She couldn't surf in a lake, but at least it would be water, right?

"Uh, I haven't been in it," Indigo said, bypassing her first question, since she'd gone on so quickly. "A lot of people do, though. Even some of the professors... sometimes." He really shouldn't have mentioned that, considering he wasn't comfortable relaying the rest of the gossip, but it was interesting, to say the least. "So like, I can't tell you where the Gryffindor Common Room is, but I usually get lost around there." The towers were cooler than the ground floor, and he didn't mind narrow, crooked stairwells.

"Well, that doesn't help me much, now, does it?" Nova said, glancing over to the wide staircase in the hall. "Any idea where my common room is? I was pretty much just told dungeons." That was all she knew, and it really wasn't much help. With how large the castle was, the dungeons had to be enormous.

Indigo shook his head. "That's all I know, too. Like they're going to tell a Gryffindor." It was the second time he'd mentioned the House rivalry, but it was unavoidable. He couldn't begin to imagine how bad it had been before the war. Allegedly, it had gotten a lot better since them. "You'll probably make more friends in your House if you're not seen talking to me," he added.

"Because you're a Gryffindor?" Nova scoffed. She wasn't entirely sure that she would like the Slytherins, anyway. Sure, they would be connections, but if they were all like Julien she wanted nothing to do with them. "Besides, the separation between the houses can't be that bad."

Indigo shifted his weight to his left foot. "It's not supposed to be," he said. "Like a few years ago a bunch of Death Eaters attacked the school though, and I guess that started everything back up. I don't think Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff even care, it's just Gryffindor and Slytherin. Slytherin's got this rap of being full of Purists, which is lame because You-Know-Who was a Slytherin and he was Halfblood." And he was going to shut up now. He scuffed his shoe against the floor to distract himself.

Nova shrugged and opted to keep her mouth shut on the pureblood argument, figuring that coming out with it and possibly pissing someone off was not the most productive way to start her new life. As much as Kane had annoyed her, he had made a good point. She actually had to change to be better. "I'll just have to wait and see what it's all about. The war never really hit at either of my other schools."

"Oh yeah, mine either. We didn't even have Houses, just boys' dorms and girls' dorms. But I've been here like a year now, so I've picked stuff up." He gave a slight shrug. The whole Gryffindor/Slytherin rivalry hadn't taken long to figure out at all. As for the war, he'd gotten insanely bored some time before the holidays and dipped into the copy of Hogwarts: A History he'd bought for his parents.

"Why'd you move here?" Nova asked, though she immediately kicked herself for it. Asking that question left her open for it to be turned back on her, and she wasn't quite ready to answer that question yet. She was certain she could come up with an answer, but just maybe she would get lucky and he wouldn't ask.

"I was going to Salem Institute of Magic. It used to be Salem Witches' Institute, and I guess they decided they didn't like having it coed after all, so they changed it back. All the guys had to leave." They could have just stopped taking wizards and let the ones there finish their schooling, but when Salem made a decision, there was no argument, it was law.

Nova rolled her eyes. "That's some bullsh~," she said. She didn't see much reason to kick out guys. "Well, unless you guys were running around raping and pillaging the place or something." Of course, even if all the other guys had been, Nova highly doubted that Indigo would have been part of it.

Indigo rolled his eyes. "They hardly let us near the girls anyway," he said. "I swear, you'd think after a few hundred years they'd have updated their rulebooks." And yet they'd been required to wear their robes during school hours, and there'd been a dress code for the rest of the time, too. Not even a flash of ankle now and then, though they'd been allowed to wear pants, at least. No rules against shirts being tight, as long as they covered.

"Yeah, well, the states are notoriously terrified of sexuality, so of course they're going to keep you away from each other," Nova said, with a hint of bitterness in her voice. It had traveled with her to TAIM and she hoped she could control herself this time and avoid it for as long as possible. If all the guys were as timid as this one, she thought she might just have a chance.
