"Here, let me," Rowan said, taking the ring from Shianni. He turned from the counter and, because it seemed the thing to do, got to one knee in the dimly lit shop. He'd already asked, and as she'd pointed out, she'd already said yes, so his eyes gleamed as he lightly lifted her hand. The ring slipped easily onto her finger, and he couldn't help admiring it in the moments before he stood.
"It's official," he told her, looking into her eyes. His gaze never moved as he said somewhat vaguely to the shopkeeper, "If it's part of a set, we'll have all three."

Oh Emilian could have gagged, but he pulled out the matching wedding bands. "Do you need the boxes or are you just going to wear them as soon as I hand them over?" he asked, probably a bit less politely than he should have. He doubted either of them would catch it.

Shianni smiled and took a quick kiss. This was the best night of her life. She did not even hear what the man said as she picked her hand up to admire how the ring looked on her finger. It fit her so much better than the blasted d'Avonderre ring had. It matched her better, it felt better. She could not imagine a more fitting ring.

Rowan shot a glare at the shopkeeper. "Show some respect, please," he said, rising to Shianni's defense. "I'll have the wedding bands gift-wrapped." They'd be opened shortly, but if the man was going to be rude, he could stay awake another five or ten minutes.

Emilian repressed another sigh and nodded, "Yes, sir." Forced politeness was better than none. If the guy thought he was being disrespectful now, he should have come around a couple of years before. "Do you have a color preference?" he asked, carrying the rings to the front counter.

"Pale blue," Rowan said, "like her eyes. And dark blue, like the night sky." He was willing to overlook that moment of poor service, considering the late hour, so long as it didn't happen again. "Soon we'll be married," he said to Shianni. "There should be a justice of the peace at the Ministry building."

"Of course," Shianni said as the shopkeeper started packing up the rings. "I just can not believe we have waited this long!" How had they managed to know one another for so long without coming to this realization. "We should go on a honeymoon." It would have to be during the next school break, but she supposed she could wait.

"Yes, where would you like to go?" He wished that there were more than a few days before school resumed, but perhaps they could apply for a brief leave of absence. He suggested as much to Shianni, hardly paying attention as he emptied his coin pouch of most of its contents.

Emilian ignored the woman's halting list of places to go, spanning from the Mediterranean to what was apparently her home country in South America, as the money made its way into the register. "Is there anything else I can help you with?" he asked, finishing up the wrapping.

"No, thank you," Rowan said absently. He looped Shianni's arm around his and took the bag containing the rings, already thinking ahead. "We could spend the rest of our break in Peru," he suggested, "and arrange for a longer trip later, whichever you prefer. I would love to meet your family, though." Perhaps he'd make his apologies for stealing her away so suddenly, but there was no holding back love!

"Oh, yes," Shianni agreed. "I am certain my mother will love you, she has been pushing me to get married and now I no longer have to worry about being married off to some horrible man." She had intended to avoid marriage as long as possible, but Rowan was worth breaking that vow to herself.

The journey to the Ministry of Magic took far too long, but only a few minutes before midnight Rowan stood beside Shianni, facing a tufty-haired wizard with a singsong voice. There were a few unfortunate late workers and a sleepy security wizard as witnesses, the latter of whom held all three rings in his meaty hand.
Ladies and gentlemen, we are gathered here today to celebrate the union of two faithful souls...
Rowan glanced down at the tag stuck lightly to Shianni's blouse. URGENT WEDDING, it declared. He smiled and met her eyes.

Shianni barely heard what the man was saying, only becoming aware of him when it was apparently her turn to say something. She agreed with a wide smile at Rowan. How could the others not share in their joy? Oh well, she could ignore them for the handsome man in front of her.

And do you, Rowan Elliot, take Shianni...? Of course he did, and as he slid the wedding band onto her finger, he wondered how he'd ever imagined he could be happy alone. A clock began to chime as he slid the engagement ring into place, then clasped Shianni's hands in his.
...then I declare you bonded for life. The tufty-haired wizard raised his wand, showering them with a spiral of silver stars as he pulled close to kiss his wife.

Shianni was so happy she could have jumped into Rowan's arms. However, at the same time that she wanted to rush home and enjoy a few hours together after sending an owl home, she wanted to revel in the congratulations and well wishes being showered onto them. It seemed those still at the ministry had needed something to cheer up a lonely night spent away from their families.
