"We're in urgent need of a ring," Rowan said, getting straight to the point. He was glad that the shopkeeper didn't seem as disgusting as rumor had painted him, since he would hate to offend Shianni, but this was important, and so he'd taken the chance. "Money is no object." She was worth everything he had in savings, and more.

"No offense but...couldn't this wait until morning? It has to be near midnight," Emilian said. And it was cold. He didn't go outside much anymore, much preferring to pour himself into a slowly building library in front of a small, but warm, fire. "Do you really need it tonight?" He tried to be hospitable to people that came in right as he was closing, but this was so...not something he was prepared for.

"Oh, no, it cannot wait, it must be done tonight," Shianni said. "What better time to start a new life together than the beginning of a new year?" With such a memorable date, she was unlikely to have to worry about the funny tales the older women told of their men forgetting anniversary dates.

"That's precisely why we need it now," Rowan agreed. "It's nearing midnight, and besides, you're already here. I'm willing to argue for far longer than it will take to sell us a ring." He was dead serious about it. They could have one here much faster than searching for a jewellery shop in London.

Emilian barely repressed a sigh at the knowledge there would be no arguing with the couple. "Fine, then, come in." He disappeared into the shop, raising his wand to bring more lights to the displays and the ceiling. "I have nearly anything you could want. Most of the rings are self-sizing, though if you were willing to wait I could have a static one specially made in the right size. What are you interested in?" He might as well try to make the best impression possible.

Shianni nearly squealed with delight that the man had accepted so quickly as she followed him in. She had always liked jewelry as long as it was not the gaudy jewelry of her grandmother's time, though she did not wear as much as many women did. "Possibly a silver one? With a blue stone?" Surely he had a large selection.

Platinum, Rowan mouthed. Platinum was far better than silver, but had grey-white coloring, unlike the slightly yellowish tint of white gold. It was more expensive, but unlike his father's past fianceés and wives, he intended to keep Shianni forever, and she deserved the best of the precious metals. He wasn't quite as familiar with stones, as most of them had wanted diamonds, but was confident that he'd know if they were being cheated.

Emilian nodded and lead them over to a display of rings. He rubbed at his scarred hand absently as he walked behind the counter to let the couple view from the front. "I have sapphires, agate, star sapphires, tourmaline, azurite..." He had an example of nearly every stone, even if he didn't have each one in every style as he simply did not have enough room. Still, he had prided himself since opening the store in his selection.

"Oohhh," Shianni breathed as she bent slightly to look at the selection. She wanted that one...no that one, no... "I do not know which to choose, Rowan!" she said, looking over at him for help. This was entirely different from picking out jewelry for a ball. This was important, it had meaning.

"The star sapphire," Rowan said, pointing to the only one it could be. "Deep blue, like the night sky. It makes sense, doesn't it?" he asked Shianni. It was what she'd said before, and if she was half as passionate about Astronomy as he was about Charms, then no other stone would do.

Emilian forced rising bitterness down. He didn't need to think of his own failed engagement or of the many people that had come into his shop over the years for a ring, and not Dare with his special ring that matched Michael so perfectly. "It's a good choice," he said, all he would allow himself to say at that point.

"Oh, yes!" Shianni said. Once her eyes locked on the ring, she was unable to look away. It was perfect, everything she had not known she would want in a ring. "Can you please take it out?" she asked, reluctantly pulling her eyes from the ring to look up at the owner of the shop.

"Please," Rowan echoed. He'd never seen such a stone before, and the ring itself was quite different from other engagement rings he'd seen. It was simple and elegant, mysterious, like Shianni herself. "Is it the only one? Shianni deserves a ring as unique as she is."

Emilian nodded and opened the back of the display. He pulled out the ring and held it out for her. "It will self size." He didn't bother telling the price, since Rowan had told him that money didn't matter.

Shianni beamed again and took the ring. "Can I put it on now?" she asked Rowan excitedly. "I swear it is perfect and I have already said yes." But if he wished to have a more formal proposal she would not take the opportunity away from him.
