Rowan chuckled, despite himself. "So choose something that doesn't require costumes," he suggested. "Aside from that, yes, I'll meet you in the great hall at seven. Or, better, in the entry hall so we don't have to fight through the students to get out." He gave Keith a hint of a smile that knew all the levels of humor in what he'd said.

"I'll think of something," Keith said. "And you know, I have to invite you places, even when I know you'll say no." It didn't feel right to go out without telling Rowan, and it didn't feel right to tell him without inviting him, so it would happen no matter what it was. His eyes dropped to Rowan's hand, but he knew that contact would only serve to remind him of the little helper he was using.

"You really don't have to," Rowan said. He didn't feel the need to tell Keith he was going out unless there were conflicting plans, or if he wanted Keith to come with him. He couldn't imagine that Keith always wanted his company.

Keith shrugged and looked back up at Rowan. "Well, you're kind of my boyfriend, so it doesn't feel right to just assume you'll be fine with me going out other sexy men, and we both know what happens when I assume stuff about you." He would much rather stay on the safe side. His assumptions had only gotten him into trouble.

"I'm fine with you going out with other sexy men," Rowan said. "I'm assuming you mean the Blackwood-Hardts." Why would he have any problem with Keith taking Dare out somewhere? He certainly hoped that Keith didn't expect him to constantly check in. If he went out alone, it was no one else's business.

Keith was silent for a while, taking sips of his tea as he thought. "I'm just...still getting used to this. I'm used to jealousy and insecurity, not...you. It's one of the things I really like about you, though." Maybe he should look into this, try to find some group of people in a similar situation he could talk to.

Rowan eyed Keith, but could find only the given compliment in that, and let it go. He saw no point in being jealous of Keith's friends, and whether they were sexy changed nothing. Perhaps he had stronger feelings about Matthew, but Matthew actively annoyed him, whereas he simply didn't want to associate with the Blackwood-Hardts. However, it seemed like a rather ridiculous distinction with no real basis, so he didn't bother saying anything about it. All he managed was a vague thank you.

Keith was sure that at some point this lack of response from Rowan would get to him, that he would want Rowan to show some kind of emotion about it, even jealousy. For now, however, he was mostly content, and the momentary feelings of panic that came every so often that Rowan was simply humoring him were never enough to make it past a flickering thought. It helped that he had accepted that, no matter how much he might hope for it, Rowan was highly unlikely to initiate anything of the sort, be it emotional or physical. With that thought, he took Rowan's hand.
"I used to have a chess set," he said, looking at the one on the table. "I always used the black pieces and I was so bad that they were beaten so much that they just stopped putting themselves back together." There was no use in half a chess set. "My pieces hated me."
