"Nice, that's something to be proud of," Keith said. "I don't think there's anyone particularly outstanding in my seventh years, there are a couple of fifth years that are promising, though." He didn't think there were as many interested in herbology when compared to the other classes, it seemed rare to find someone that was truly interested past wanting a good grade.

"No Healers?" Rowan asked. Anyone in N.E.W.T. level Herbology had to need it for their career or at least have a passion for it. He couldn't think of many which needed Herbology, but as it was so rare an interest, they tended to be respectable, if not glamorous.

"No one that's going to make some big name for themselves," Keith said. "They like the subject, but they don't have much ambition." He supposed that was what happened when he had a class of Hufflepuffs. "And I'm sure a few of them are just in it because they thought it would be an easy N.E.W.T. to take." He had been sure to prove them wrong.

Rowan snorted at that. "There's no such thing as an easy N.E.W.T.," he said. It would have been laughable if he didn't still remember how much work he'd put into his own. He reached down and picked up his water from the carpet. "You sure you don't want something to drink?" he asked.

"Fine, I'll have some water, thank you," Keith said, his eyes glinting softly in humor. "I know N.E.W.T.s are hard, and you know they are, and anyone that has taken them knows, but many students just see herbology as oh look we'll trim hedges and get a N.E.W.T. out of it." It had annoyed him, giving him all the more reason to push a little harder sometimes.

"If they would just read the textbooks!" Rowan said, flicking his wand to summon another water from the kitchen. "Their parents paid enough for the books, but I swear some of them never even get cracked open until the night before N.E.W.T.s." And until then, they were large paperweights.

"Of course they don't," Keith said. "Most kids just want to get out, they don't care. Most of them will end up in some pathetic little paper pushing job they can't stand and wonder why they're miserable. It's hard to find a passion sometimes. Not that it doesn't annoy me thoroughly when they think my class is a blowoff."

Rowan nodded and leaned back with his water as Keith's approached. "Charms is the foundation for countless other forms of magic, and it's considered a soft subject. Kids are interested in flashy things like Defense Against the Dark Arts and Potions, and everything else is blown off. Hogwarts has some really fantastic professors who pale in the shadows of those here during the wars. Some of us weren't even born then."

Keith took the water as he nodded in agreement. "Hogwarts has a hell of a history, especially from then," he said. It was one of the reasons he had been so interested in the job opening. "Isn't the headmistress a relative of the Dumbledore?" It wasn't exactly a popular name, there had to be some relation. How close a relation he wasn't entirely sure.

"His granddaughter," Rowan said, nodding. "Not sure of her parents or anything, but I heard a wild rumor once that her father was the son of Albus Dumbledore and Gelert Grindelwald." He gave a light shrug. Rumors could be entertaining, however ridiculous they might be.

Keith laughed and shook his head. "Imagine that, Grindelwald was a tranny the whole time." That would bring an entirely new side to the old evil wizard. History books would be rewritten and new theories would emerge. He shook his head again and took a sip of water. He supposed about anything was possible, though.

Rowan smiled, though he wasn't sure what Keith meant by tranny. However many times he may have visited a gay club with friends—and it wasn't a regular occurrance—he hadn't absorbed the slang, and so he decided it must be a Muggle word. If he remembered later, perhaps he'd look it up in the Muggle unabridged dictionary he had. "Who knows, maybe there's a charm somewhere that can trump biology."

Keith shrugged, still amused at the idea. "Well, there's polyjuice, right? I mean, it's not permanent or anything, but it's a serious change." He didn't know just how far magic could actually change things and how much was just a coverup. He also knew that just about nothing could stop someone that was truly determined.

"That's an idea," Rowan said. "But you'd think that if polyjuice potion could change the internal organs that much, that it would affect the brain, and it doesn't. Or, at least, that if there was that much change, the baby would have the genetics of the woman the hair was from. Assuming the polyjuice was taken every hour for nine months." He shook his head. "It would be nearly impossible."

"That guy Crouch kept it up for a full school year," Keith said. "But if it would just look like the woman it would kind of negate the whole reason for trying." It would be a whole lot of work for...nothing, really. "It would have to be modified quite a bit for it to be worth it." Were they really talking about this?
