"True invisibility spells are theoretic," Rowan answered. "We can disillusion ourselves, but there's still enough matter to be sensed, especially by magic and animals. It can be reversed easily." He tapped the apple, and again it appeared whole and untouched. "You may think you're changing yourself, but you're simply making it possible for others to look through you, or around you."

Keith would have thought invisibility was strictly sight, but he supposed that what Rowan said made sense. "Okay," he said. "That's like saying transfiguring your eyebrows doesn't actually change the color." That was something he could do and apparently the two weren't as similar as it might have seemed at the beginning.

"Right," Rowan said. "A spell reversal will put them back the way they were. So do you want to try it again? Remember, you're looking through it, not making it disappear." Any previous discomfort was forgotten. This was Rowan's element.

Keith fought frustration as he learned the spell, but Rowan was a good teacher and in the end he managed to get the apple to turn a wavy translucent color. He hoped that the next lesson wouldn't be so nerve-wracking. Once he had been partially successful, he said his goodbyes and headed back home.
