Rowan chuckled and gave a humorless smile. "Yeah, I know. It's not like it's all a big secret, either. Their parents won't get involved, though, and nothing motivates the students. Without detention or House Points, and with students bypassing the places Hells watches and oversees, our hands are tied." He chuckled again. "I swear, Saturday I'm getting wasted so I don't dump extra work on them next week as punishment. They hardly keep up as it is."

That earned a light laugh and another shake of the head from Keith, then he looked over at Rowan again. "I don't know if I can see you wasted," he said. He did it himself every so often, but had never really made a habit out of it. "Not that I know you well enough yet to really know." He hoped he would see Rowan with at least some regularity, even though it was obvious to him that the guy wouldn't be interested. A relationship wasn't everything, though.

"Not often," Rowan admitted. "There are better ways to have a good time, but once in a while..." He shrugged. "There are few people I trust enough to lose that kind of control around, and I don't have any interest in drinking so much I can't walk straight. It's not the same, but you can't hold everything in all the time or you won't function at full capacity."

"I don't let myself get that bad, I don't go drinking often, anyway." There were better ways to lose control, or to give it up. Keith had no qualms about it in some instances, but he didn't care to be unable to think straight. "Where do you go, if you don't mind my asking?" He knew he shouldn't invite himself, and he wouldn't, but he would certainly hint that he wouldn't mind going out and meeting some people.

"London, I'm a total hypocrite," Rowan said. He looked back at Keith. "The people I've known the longest live in and around London. I was away to school most of the time, but now I'm close enough, I'm legal, so we go wherever, depending who's up for it. Got some friends who won't set foot in certain clubs, some who throw parties at home, I'm up for about anything. What've you been doing? Or are you going to take the Knight Bus with the students?"

Keith shrugged and glanced away. "I haven't been doing anything, I haven't been here long enough. Like I said, never been to London, and I don't know anyone here, or there, for that matter, to meet up with." It would be fun to go out, he had only ever been to a club once, if it could even be called a club, it had been more of an all ages sports bar sort of thing with a large dance floor.

Rowan caught the hint this time, but didn't immediately offer to let Keith tag along. He guarded his time off jealously, doing his utmost to keep it private, to keep up a good image for the students. That night with Jory could have been catastrophic, but he'd felt obligated to save the boy from himself. As a faculty member, he couldn't have let Jory get hurt with a clear conscience.
This would be entirely different. He wanted to let go, to leave his baggage at the door, but if he brought a piece of school with him, what would the point be? What were the chances that the Headmistress wouldn't find out? He didn't want to disappoint her. She'd been unsure about hiring him in the first place because of his age, and he refused to disappoint and lose what he'd been building toward since he was eleven.
"You should talk to Dare, the Transfiguration professor I mentioned earlier," he said, hoping it didn't sound like a blowoff. "Like I said, they go out regularly. They keep trying to form groups, but it hasn't been working out, from what I hear."

Keith looked over at Rowan for a couple long seconds before looking away again. "Maybe," he said. "I wouldn't want to impose on the two of them, though." Whatever group they formed, if they could get one together, he couldn't help but imagine he would somehow feel like a third wheel around a pair that had been together so long.

"Good luck," Rowan said, bringing his shoe back to the floor. "They seem like nice guys." But Rowan had his own friends, and didn't like letting in strangers. He did not want to mix business with pleasure. Everything about that would be wrong, and he liked his ordered world the way it was.
"Sorry to interrupt like this, but I need to head back to my quarters, finish my kids' homework so I can get it back to them tomorrow. I'lll see you around, though."

Keith looked over at Rowan again and nodded before standing and grabbing his bag. "Yeah, no, it's okay. If...you ever want to come and talk or something, you know, relax a little during the week away from the kids, I'd love to talk more." Even if he had been shot down on his attempts to be invited out. He needed to find those areas and that book he had come for, anyway.

Rowan grabbed his own bag as he stood, then eyed Keith a moment, debating. "Maybe I'll do that," he said. Maybe he would. He was half starved for intelligent conversation during the week, and it wouldn't shake things up too much working in time to talk now and then. He'd check his day planner tonight after his work was done. "It was nice talking to you," hee added, and with a brief raise of his hand in parting, he slipped away, his mind already turning back to things which needed done.
