Lyric had nearly panicked at the phrase study group. He was bad enough with one person, and class was torment. Sitting in a group was horrible without things he couldn't get hold of anymore and had to constantly remind himself that he didn't want. He didn't. Right?
But Aiden had gone on, and so Lyric just nodded. He wasn't doing well in anything but Charms anymore, and sometimes Defense Against the Dark Arts. "Yeah, we could do that," he managed.

Aiden went through the motions silently a few more times, thinking of nothing in particular before he spoke. "Hey, if I talk too much, just tell me to shut up or something," he said. "I've been yelled at for talking too much before." It wasn't hard to see that Trent didn't talk much, but Aiden didn't really mind that, as long as the guy didn't mind him yammering on and on.

"No, it's fine," Lyric said. It took a moment before he was able to glance at Aiden again, and another moment before he actually thought about what he'd seen and looked back. "You're missing the middle part again," he said. It was more like he wasn't getting the motions right, but Lyric didn't want to insult the guy.

Aiden cursed softly under his breath and sighed. "I told you, I'm useless at this stuff," he said as he tried it again, forcing himself to move a little slower again, however much it annoyed him to do so. He didn't mind at all being told when he was doing something wrong, it was the only way to get better.

"It just takes practice," Lyric said. Not that he'd ever had trouble picking up wand motions, but that was what you were supposed to say to someone who thought they sucked, wasn't it? He'd certainly heard it a few times. That and You have too much potential to waste it like this, though that last gave him violent urges. "You want me to show you again?"

"Yeah," Aiden said, though he would probably have a hard time figuring out just what he was doing wrong. He knew from experience that it could feel and look right from his perspective while being completely wrong when the professor or whatever saw. "You might have to do it a couple times again, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong."

"Just... this part," Lyric said, bringing out his wand again. He just did the motions in the middle of the spell, the ones that Aiden had been missing before. Maybe without all the rest of it he'd be able to keep up with exactly what was going on.

Aiden did it again, and it felt right, which probably meant that he was doing it wrong. "I'm doing it wrong still, aren't I?" But it felt weird to do it any other way, though that would easily be explained by doing it wrong for too long. "Or is it more like this?" he asked, trying it once more.

Lyric's brows drew together slightly as he looked at Aiden's wand. Touch isn't always sexual, Kane had told him. It's all right to have occasional physical contact. People won't expect anything from it. Then why did it terrify him to think of? And why was he thinking about that to begin with? Yes, it would be physically possible to help Aiden move his hand the right way, and he'd seen professors do it, but could he handle the contact it would take? Lyric tried to make up his mind, and in doing so, lost track of how long it had been since the original question.

When Trent didn't say anything, Aiden looked over at him, raising his eyebrows. "Am I that far off?" he asked. He didn't see any other reason that Trent would be so quiet, except that he was just doing that badly and he had to figure out how to explain. "It won't hurt my feelings or anything to tell me I suck, promise," he said, lips curving lightly.

Lyric blinked and dropped his gaze. "No, I mean, you're off, but just a little. I guess it's hard to show someone." It was just the littlest bit that he was off, but it could mean the difference between wet shoes and complete water repelling. "Just, watch closely, okay? This part here." Instead of doing the entire middle part, he concentrated on the specific motion that Aiden was missing. He didn't exaggerate it this time, hoping maybe he'd be able to tell easier.

"That's what I'm doing," Aiden insisted, continuing what he was doing. At least...that was what he thought he was doing, anyway. Apparently he thought wrong. He wanted to be able to figure it out, but he felt like he had hit a plateau in his learning. "It always takes forever for me to get the motions down, I'm so much better with pronunciation."

By this point, Lyric wanted desperately to just tell him he had it and move on. He wanted to escape, maybe seek Kane out for once, just to help him get calmed down. But if he left Aiden doing it that way and the spell didn't work any better than it had before, he'd lose any chance of appearing mildly competent with a wand.
Eventually pride won out over fear, or maybe he'd just finally cracked. "I... I could show you," he offered hesitantly. Why wasn't he wearing his fingerless gloves? He nearly pulled down his arm warmers, but managed to recognize that he'd probably look crazy doing so.

"Huh?" Aiden asked, then stopped the motion of his wand arm as he looked over at Trent. "Oh...yeah, sure." There was no shame in begging direct help when he really wanted to learn the spell. He had had to get professors to do it more than once, or really anyone that was willing to help, not that he had that many people to ask.

He'd said yes. Or, rather, sure, but it was the same thing. Lyric felt a little sick from nerves and hoped it didn't show as he crept closer, highly aware of the firm personal bubble he kept around himself, and that he was about to willingly violate it. You can do this, he told himself repeatedly, though he wasn't at all sure how. "Um, just... hold your wand out," Lyric said, moving closer than he was at all comfortable with. His adrenaline was racing, though. That was enough to get to him. He hadn't gotten going like this in months, and despite the fact that it was a totally different scenario, there was still that dangerous sensation in the air. He took a breath and, slowly, sure to give either of them time to pull back, reached to wrap his hand around Aiden's.
