Somehow, the room was open, not that Aiden was about to complain. "Man, we're lucky," he commented as he walked in. The room had provided them with a couple of large, comfortable looking chairs, but not much else, giving them plenty of floor space for practicing spells. Apparently the room was under the impression they were going to be doing something other than a single spell, and that spell didn't even need a lot of room to work. "I figured there would all but be a line for this place today."

Lyric shrugged as he looked around the hardly-furnished room. He figured everyone was huddled together by the fires in their Common Rooms. It was a good day to explore the empty classrooms if you were into that, to get away with things the professors would usually pay attention to. At that thought, Shadow gave a long rub against one of his legs, subtly drawing his thoughts back toward safety.

Aiden let the door close behind them and stepped further into the room. He looked back at Trent, wondering absently just how much taller than him the guy was. Of course, the hair probably added a good two or three inches...at least. "You know, I'm loving the hair," he said, gesturing up before he pulled out his wand and spun it absently through his fingers.

The back of Lyric's neck heated as he threw a flickering glance at Aiden. "Thanks," he said. He shifted on his feet a bit self-consciously as the door shut behind him and Shadow claimed one of the chairs to nap in. "Yours is cool, too." God, he hated talking. He sucked at it.

"Thanks," Aiden said, bringing up his free hand to run over his head from back to front. "Dad hates it, he says I'll think different about it when I go bald like him." But his dad hadn't started losing hair until a couple years ago, so Aiden wasn't too worried. And even if he did lose all his hair, he wouldn't regret having his like this for a few years.

Lyric gave a half shrug, unsure what to say to that. His mom hadn't really said anything. Hair wasn't permanent and she tended to keep things to herself unless she thought he was in mortal danger. Or having sex. He tried to clear his mind, but wasn't any more successful than he'd ever been at doing so. "So, like, you want me to show you the spell?" he asked.

"Sure," Aiden said, shrugging. "Do I need to show you how I do it or something?" He absently set to sending out sparks from his wand tip, a bored habit he had picked up at some point. He probably did the waterproofing spell horribly wrong, but no one had ever been able to tell him exactly how to do it.

Lyric shook his head. "No, I'll just show you how I do it." Aiden already had his wand out, so Lyric didn't tell him to, just pulled out his wand and moved cautiously closer. He'd need to be close enough for the intricacies of the wandwork to be visible, but he didn't want to be close. He stopped just out of arms' reach and turned slightly so they wouldn't be mirroring each other. "You ready?"

Aiden stopped with the sparks and nodded, "Yeah, go for it, man." He couldn't guarantee he would get it the first try, but he'd keep a watch on Trent's hand and wand and hopefully he wouldn't make a complete fool of himself. Not that he was ever easily embarrassed, especially not by like something like this. He generally took that kind of thing in stride.

Lyric nodded, then said the spell out loud, however odd it felt to be doing it when he was so used to nonverbals. He did the wand motions once slowly, then again at a more natural speed, hoping that was enough. "Is that what you were doing before?" he asked.

Aiden raised an eyebrow at the motions and then grinned as he shook his head in answer to the question. "Totally not. Well, kinda. I mean, I did most of that, but there was a chunk I apparently missed in class or whatever." He tried to mimic Trent's motions...and immediately missed the middle part. It had to be the length part of the spell, or he wouldn't have gotten any results at all. Using the same motions for years made it hard to change.

Lyric didn't say anything, but did the motions again, slowly. He was surprised that the spell would work at all without all the wand motions, or maybe he just knew a better version of it. Either way, he'd show Aiden as many times as he needed to get it.

"Trent, you're amazing," Aiden said when he finally got the motions down. "Now I know who to go to when I suck at a spell." He highly doubted he had it perfect, but it had to be better than what he had been doing. He tossed his wand into one of the chairs and went to tug off his almost constantly present zip up hoodie. Was it more lazy to tug it over his head without undoing the zipper, or to take it off the way it was meant to? He didn't give it much thought as he pulled it over his head and threw it over the back of a chair. His hands came up to smooth his hair forward again. "If you're up for it, that is."

Lyric was keeping his eyes steadily diverted from Aiden, and he had to force himself to nod. He really shouldn't have been looking, let alone noticing that when he'd pulled his hoodie off, his shirt had been tugged up a bit. His eyes squeezed briefly shut as he threw out everything Kane had told him and put a firm image of his mother in his mind. "Yeah. Sounds good," he made himself say, and even forced a smile.

"Hey, maybe we could do a study group thing," Aiden offered, picking his wand back up to give the motions, at least, another shot. "I mean, I don't know how much of a group two people is, and I probably can't teach you anything, but isn't there some saying about you only really know it if you can teach it to someone else?" He could give Trent some practice, anyway.
