Brindle didn't know why she'd picked up the Daily Prophet, she just had. Everyone had been talking about Dare and Silver, she'd heard something about another prefect, and then Ryan's name. He was such a jerk! Actually reading the paper hadn't helped, though. She didn't believe any of the nonsense about her friends, even if it was funny to imagine girls fighting over quiet Silver.
What was so great about guys in the first place? Brindle humphed as she tossed the newspaper aside. Nothing, she answered herself. There were cute ones, but they were either boring, jerks, or taken. Well, she didn't want a boyfriend anyway, she told herself. Just because she was effing seventeen now, and all her friends had paired off years ago.
She sighed to herself and closed the forgotten textbook in front of her. She was never going to get her homework done at this rate. She kept thinking about things she didn't want to think about. Maybe she'd go out to the lake, to her favorite spot under the trees, and kick some random tree's butt.

Deimos huffed as he walked towards the library. The sheer amount of reading that he had to do in his classes was ridiculous. Sometimes, he wished that he could just leave all the reading to Rene and just somehow acquire what she learned through reading through osmosis. Or something similar. The two of them couldn't quite read each other's thoughts, but they knew each other well enough that it might give other people that impression.
As he opened the door, he also contemplated why he was doing homework on a perfectly nice day. Maybe he would take his homework down to the lake. He had taken to haunting that clearing on days like this to see if he might run into a particular someone. Unfortunately, it never seemed to happen. Yes, maybe homework down by the lake would be a good idea. Or just a jog in general.
He deposited his books on the counter to return them to the librarian and wandered around to find new ones. It was a new week and it was time for new books for new projects. He gave a small noise of dissatisfaction in his throat as he began the search for a good herbology reference.
