Michael nodded, but didn't have anything else to say. He wanted to hope that they could talk about this tonight, or anytime, really, and that it wouldn't end up anything like this. It felt like too much to hope for. It was hard to imagine living for another year and hoping, without any certainty that it would even happen then. He settled his robes around him and started the walk back up to the castle.

When Dare was dressed, he sat on the grass by his bag and thought. He didn't see a solution, though. He didn't want to search London for some Muggle daycare place, and he didn't want to spend every day holed up in their apartment on Diagon Alley. He didn't feel like anything was missing in their life. A kid felt like a burden, and they had enough burdens between them for several people without adding another.
Eventually he got up and headed back to the castle, but his mind was in a hundred different places. It was back at the lake, it was at home, and he just couldn't imagine a kid involved.
