I agree with Assistant Head Mistress Hells about this. There are lots of different ways to defeat the dark arts. You don't fire, with fire do you? No, you don't. I believe the Assistant Head Mistress is also right about the part of us being just as bad as them if we resort to their ways to punish them. Their are other forms of punishment that can be just as severe without the pain. I think you are all too interested in just being able to use the Dark arts, because of their reputations. If we was talking about using a shield charm, or expelliarmus I bet none of you would be as interested, as we are now.

I have a strong dislike towards the dark arts, but in case of an emergency you may hafta use them and fight against them

I agree with Katrina. Unless it's life-threatening you run, otherwise hex them..

I do enjoy the dark arts, it's quite a fascinating subject but I don't believe I'd ever do them

I'm not sure how I feel. The dark arts are defiantly bad, but you could use them for your own protection.

I have a strong dislike towards the Dark Arts. It only ends in pain and misery and we don't have enough medi-witches to help everyone.

Why is there no harm? At the end of the day, Dark Arts are still Dark Arts, whether you use them for good or wrong. Oh, Come on now, Hellz. I think we had all agreed upon the fact that what we use them for is what makes them Dark. Didn't you yourself say :
I agree with you that Knowledge is not evil - it is again the choices that people make with that knowledge that deems what is right or wrong....
I , for one, will use all my knowledge to get rid of those who walk the earth and don't deserve to. If you think that my means are, so be it. Call me a Dark Wizard, if you want to. Go on thinking that I am no better than any of them. But maybe that's just what you think. Doesn't really make you right, does it ? Doesn't really make me wrong, for sure.

Oh, I hate to critisize everyone, but who says that Dumbledore never used the Dark Arts in that battle in the MoM? We never learned what that spell was that caused Voldemort to create a shield. To me it was a very powerful spell, but Voldy knew what it was and knew how to block it. Just my little interuption.

just joined the place. sort of new to it lemme get to the point who said dark arts are dark at all??? who said there is something called light arts??? who said dumbledore never uses dark arts? are the unforgivable curses the only dark arts??? [glow=red,2,300]has anyone heard him utter a verbal spell??? so it could be him using dark arts dark arts are not dark at all.its just that there is an absence of mercy in them.like we say its cold at low temperatures just [/glow]because of the absence of heat. [glow=red,2,300]in my opinion "dark arts" are not here to be not used.they can be used for right reasons like when people like bellatrix and barty crouch jr escape from prison do they turn good.they turn even more merciless seeking out revenge. so "dark arts" are friends in right hands and foes in wrong hands where are you from in india sinistercancer? [/glow]

I agree two wrongs DO NOT make a right,i would not use ANY of the unforgiveable curses. There are others ways to fight Voldemort without using those spells.I mean whats the point of fighting the evil you are trying to stop with the evil you are trying to stop it just gives them the messge to the death eaters "If they can do it so can we".

They're only labeled the Dark Arts because they are used as such. Now if someone used things like the imperious to control prisoners in jail, would it be considered dark? They are a fascinating subject and I would use them if I had to, I don't see them nessecarily as dark, just as a branch of magic that is frowned upon.
