"Just remind them who's going home to get laid and they'll shut up," Markise quipped. "Oh, and take this." He picked up the tube of cherry chap stick and offered it to Michael. "Dare used to have a fetish for this stuff." There was no telling if he still did, but even if he didn't it would get some kind of reaction. His lips curved slightly with mischief. If he couldn't get Dare, he could at least prove that he knew how.

Michael took it, remembering when Dare had tried to wear it, and the times his eyes had lit up at certain flavored items. "He wore this once, but I told him I didn't want to taste cherries when I kissed him." And Dare had brought it up during their conversation about this kind of thing. Was it so wrong not to want to have something separating them?

Markise tried not to look at Michael like he was crazy, but there was only so much he could do to school his features. "I'm not saying wear it all the time, but once in a while you've got to do something different!" Otherwise someone got bored and started drinking, and eventually someone was going to find out...

"I know," Michael said. "I didn't realize it was so important until a week or two ago. I got comfortable, and he wasn't trying to push more..." He trailed off and took a breath. "Sorry." Markise didn't want to hear about how he was reluctant to try new things. He didn't need to push it on him, even if they were getting along right now.

Markise was silent now. It was one thing dressing Michael up to look hot for a still-hypothetical night of wildness and entirely another to find out what actually went on in their bedroom. But the morbid curiosity! Dare would never tell him anything, and he knew it was because Michael was a private person. But here he was talking about it, right? When would he ever have this chance again?
Markise shoved down his gag reflex and the lingering jealousy he had, letting curiosity poke its head out to sniff the air. "It's okay," he said. He looked into the mirror to fix minute details in his hair and makeup that only he could see. "Dare never was pushy."

"No, he isn't, but he normally would say something, or hint. After a while he kind of...stopped." Michael had always known what was important, what the goal was. There had always been something to work toward, then it had felt more like suggestions than actual goals. He wanted to do something new, now, and Dare's reaction from trying to talk about it was just more fuel. As for the trip to the lake, well, it had definitely been a jumpstart.

"Then you'll have to do it yourself," Markise said. He glanced pointedly at Michael's freshly made-up face, then returned to his self-inspections. "Dare will drag his feet forever. It takes a hell of a lot to get him to actually do anything. If you're waiting for him, you'd better bring a magazine to read." It had always taken a lot to get Dare pissed off or to get anything besides that mellow Californian let it flow business, but when you could get past it he was fascinating. All that carefully controlled energy...

"Well that's the thing," Michael said. "I'm not going to suggest anything, it's rare I want something, it's usually him." So if Dare wasn't saying anything... Was he really talking to Markise about this? He supposed it wasn't any worse than talking to Eros about their wedding night. Still, if Dare really wanted something, he would say it, except for recently.

"Then get used to nothing happening," Markise said. He could not understand how Michael was so unwilling to act. He was even worse than Dare! Dare you could push and prod until you got him to do what you wanted, but Michael was like a mountain, just sitting there waiting for the tide to wash it down to a rock and unwilling to move close enough for the water to even touch. He pulled out a tube of his own lip gloss and swept it on.

Michael shifted, the frustration coming back. "I know, I'm trying. I tried to talk to him about it and he nearly blew up...we went to the lake, I think that helped. And now I'm doing this." He was trying to be more outgoing, to take control more often, but it was still hard. He reached up to run his hand through his hair again before looking at himself in the mirror. "Do I need to do anything special to get this stuff off?" He knew there was always quite a bit left when they woke up in the morning after Dare had gotten dressed up.

Markise forced himself to let it go. He wanted to beat some sense into Michael, that someone needed to be aggressive and he knew the likelihood that it'd be Dare, but he'd tried to argue with Michael before and didn't really feel like running for his life today.
"Dare'll have makeup remover or something to get it off with at home," he said. "I'll go get you something, though." He stood and headed for the stairs.

Michael nodded, glad that Markise wasn't going to make him try to get home and get the makeup off without Dare noticing. He probably wouldn't have pulled a wand on Markise if the issue had been pushed, but it was probably good that it hadn't gone too much further. Hopefully this wasn't going to be a big deal after it all got started.

Markise knew exactly where his makeup remover was, but he took a few minutes anyway. He'd needed to hunt down Ariel to at least tell him what was going on, that Michael had come in to get a makeover of all things, that he'd complained about his sex life but wasn't willing to do anything more, and that he was closing the shop early again. Ariel got a highly appreciative kiss out of the deal for not being a boring doormat, and he headed back down to Michael.
"Here," he said, offering a thin, damp square of cloth. He explained briefly how to use it, then recommended Michael wash his face when he got home.

"Thank you," Michael said, taking the cloth to remove the makeup. He wasn't exactly sure what he would do when he gave it another shot before going out, but he would be able to figure something out, even if it meant digging through Dare's supplies. "Thanks for doing all this." It would help so much, he hoped.

Markise waved it off. "It's nothing," he said. He grabbed up the various items on the table and dropped them in the bag, then zipped it up. "On the house," he said, handing it to Michael. It really wasn't a big deal. He liked helping people and it was just a couple makeup kits.
