Although Leo had taken her back, things were a little shaky with Verity. She felt as if she was walking on eggshells, on thin ice. It was summer and N.E.W.T.s were over, and although she was sure she bombed at least one of them, they were over with for now. She used to think that when N.E.W.T.s ended she would feel a lot less stressed, but she was wrong. She felt drained more than anything. It had been ages since Verity had gone out. Her time was spent at the Three Broomsticks or trying to mend things with Leo. She needed to let loose, let it all go. That was the reason she made her way to the Astronomy Tower. It wasn’t that she wanted to be alone; it was just that she couldn’t think about who she did want to be with at the moment. Verity wasn’t the kind of person to refuse company. In fact, she hated being alone. At least in the Astronomy Tower she could be surrounded by millions and millions of stars.

Celyn was in a great mood. Her grades weren’t half bad which surprised her because she basically just wrote down whatever on her exams. Her father wasn’t angry and her mother was happy for her. Personally, Celyn didn’t care about her grades, but she did care about her parents and them being happy was enough to last her a lifetime. Walking up the stairs, something drew her to the astronomy tower, like an invisible force that was pushing, or pulling, her up there. Perhaps it was because she knew it would be a beautiful night and she wanted to bask in the momentary optimism she felt. A very rare feeling especially for someone like her. Reaching the last set of stairs, she looked around the tower and immediately spotted a good friend. “Hey Verity.” She said throwing her bag in a corner and jumped up to sit on a ledge looking over it. It was a long way down, but she was well balanced and wouldn’t fall over. “A penny for your thoughts.” Wait, pennies were for muggles. “Or maybe a galleon?” yes she was in too much of a good mood.[/blockquote]

Verity glanced behind her at the familiar voice. "Hey, Celyn." She said with a wave of her hand. She had hoped to put a little more enthusiasm into it as she greeted her friend, but it didn't happen. Verity sighed, she needed to get out of this funk. Her eyes followed Celyn as she went and sat on a ledge. Soon enough, she found herself walking over to the ledge and leaning on a nearby post. Her face scrunched up for a brief moment at the word penny. What were those? "Oh you know, just the normal tenses and dramas of life." She said vaguely. Although it seemed like Celyn didn't know. In fact, she seemed rather chipper. "You seem pretty happy." Verity observed as a smile spread across her face. It was enough to lighten her own mood.

Celyn watched her friends mood, she wasn't feeling too good and Celyn frowned. "I guess I am." she smiled warmly, but it was replaced by worry instantly. "You've kind of disappeared off my radar. What's been up asides exams." she knew it would be the answer, exams was the easy way out. There was something else on Verity's mind she could just... tell. Jumping down from the ledge, she placed a hand gently on Verity's shoulder. "You know you can trust me." they knew each other for more than two months now. Had even gone shopping together! If anything, Verity was the only person whom she had a stable friendship with.

Verity's eyes rested on the hand on her shoulder. It was such a simple gesture, but so comforting, and it sent a bit of an electric shock through Verity. Verity knew she could trust Celyn. She had no reason not to and unlike with most people, she was more inclined to trust Celyn than not. She blinked and brought her focus back to the present. "I've just been busy with the shop and all. Although, it seems to have died down now that the school year is over." Verity let that linger for a moment before she waved it away. It was the main reason she had been so busy aside from studying for exams. "Enough about me." She declared. "What have you been up to?" She asked with a bright smile.

Verity barely said anything, but Celyn almost understood that Verity didn't feel like explaining much. "Nothing really. Got slightly better than ok grades which pleases both my parents and I dunno. I'm just happier." being in Verity's presence just made her generally happier. She let her finger drop from Verity's shoulder and it just barely brushed her hand. Her eyes momentarily widened. Why? She wasn't sure, but there was an odd surge of something she can't place. "It's really nice up here." she leaned against the ledge, staring up in the stars. It was convenient that the ground was soft grass and not hard stone. Celyn laid down her hair fanning out around her on the grass. She looked up towards the stars, it would be nice to just fall asleep over here. "Join me." she patted the grass beside her.[/blockquote]

"Yeah, it really is." Verity agreed with a nod. Her mood had lightened quite a bit. She was practically beaming now. She moved to lay down next to Celyn, but something stopped her. She couldn't notice how perfect Celyn had looked laying there with her hair fanned out around her. She looked peaceful and content and so happy. Verity couldn't help but to both admire and slightly envy how pretty Celyn was. It wasn't something she really let herself ponder until now.
Verity finally lie down right next to her friend. Before letting her head rest on the ground, Verity gathered her hair over one of her shoulders so she wouldn't end up smashing her bouncy curls. She lie there still for a moment and closed her eyes. Whe her eyes flew back open, a grin spread across of her face."It's summer!" She said brimming with excitement. As soon as she said it a light squeal escaped from her lips. It was as if she had finally realized it for the first time since school had ended. Her mind was filled with thoughts about her dream summer. No job, lots of money, laying on the beach all day, partying all night, and shopping whenever and wherever she felt like. If only that were the case.

Celyn kept her eyes focused up on the sky. The silence in the tower was so tranquil and she couldn’t help, but grin rather foolishly. If anything, Celyn almost always was found looking indifferent or a tiny smile. But today, she was grinning broadly a new sense of high that she was rather addicted to. “It is! I usually hate summer, the heat can get unbearable, but this, this is nice.” Watching Verity lie down beside her, she titled her head to the side, catching sight of her friend and turning away quickly. Verity was, beautiful. Celyn did not feel envy, but she felt like the least she could do was appreciate her friend. Her eyes were so violet and Celyn only just realized this. “Do people question it?” she paused and realized she hadn’t really specified what she was talking about. “Your eyes I mean.” Celyn tilted her head towards her friend once more, catching sight of her eyes. They were so pretty that Celyn almost wondered how it was possible a person could have such a shade of eye color. It dawned on her that violet eyes were probably something that had to do with magical genes or something of that sort. Her father always told her that you’d always find that one person with something no other had. Verity seemed to be that one person, but there was something else, something Celyn couldn’t quite describe.[/blockquote]

“Oh, it’s wonderful!” Verity exclaimed. “Bring on the parties and the boys.” She said forgetting that not only did she have the Three Broomsticks to manage but she already had a boy of her own. “Well, the parties at least.” She ammended with a sigh. She was ready to hit the town, maybe explore that nightclub in Hogsmeade she always heard about. She also wanted to venture out to anywhere else: London, maybe Paris…
Verity was pulled away from her thoughts by Celyn’s question. She realized then that here eyes were open wide staring at the sky above. Verity blinked and turned her head to find Celyn’s facing her. The wide grin on her face seemed to be permanently etched there. “Sometimes they do.” She said remembering the way that guy from the alley had looked at her. Like she was a freak. “Most people just whisper stuff when they think I’m not listening.” It wasn’t that big of a deal to Verity anymore. She loved her eyes and she had gotten used to the comments behind her back. “When I was a little kid, no one really said anything about them. My mom’s eyes were the same way.” It was one of the better qualities she remembered about her mother and it was one of the reasons she didn’t hate her eyes.

Parties and boys. Celyn cringed. The only boy she had come close to was Silver and they had basically not seen each other since the time she saw him with Willow. If anything, Celyn was over that and didn’t even think about it. It didn’t mean she disliked him, if she saw him again she’d try to talk to him and attempt being his friends. They got off on a good start, she didn’t have to bury a potentially good friendship. “Aw swearing off guys now? Join the club.” Either that or Verity settled on someone, but Celyn hadn’t heard much. Celyn never thought someone could be talked about negatively for something so… awesome! Celyn brought her hands to play with a strand of hair, twirling it in between her fingers absentmindedly. “You would think that the wizarding world would be more accepting, but they’re even more ignorant than muggles sometimes.” In all honesty ignorance was everyone and she had to deal with it on so many levels, mostly from her house. “Were?” Verity had spoken in past tense, it could have just been an accident, or she may have just send the most insensitive then possible and didn’t realize it. When Celyn really thought about it, she basically knew nothing about Verity except for the fact that she wasn’t an uptight pureblood like most.[/blockquote]

Verity’s eyes grew wide. “Never!” She said letting her lips curve upwards. Swearing off boys? What a silly thing to swear off! When she really thought about it, it was kind of like she was swearing off guys. Well, any guys who weren’t Leo. “But the boyfriend doesn’t want me running around with other guys.” Verity explained as she automatically grimaced. She had hoped the drama from the Festival would’ve been forgotten by then. Apparently not. It never occurred to her that Celyn didn’t know about Leo. Surely Verity mentioned it at some point. Or had she been so caught up in everything that she had forgotten to tell Celyn, some one she could easily call her best friend? "You know what?" Verity piped up. "Boys cause too much drama." She said it as if she would never be the one to cause the drama. "Maybe I should swear off boys!" She said. She wasn't serious, but the thought was sounding better and better...
Verity bit her lip. “It’s not a big deal.” She said. “They’re obviously just jealous.” She said bringing a teasing smile to her lips. Verity didn’t really believe that they were jealous of her eyes and she was hardly that conceited. She thought purple eyes were just as fascinating as blue eyes or brown eyes. “Yeah,” Verity said. She turned her head again so it was facing the stars. “My mum had purple eyes like mine.” She repeated. “But she’s not around anymore. She passed away when I was a little kid.” It wasn’t much of a loss, really. You can’t lose what you never really had, right? Verity had been raised by nurses and nannies, but hardly by her own mother. Still, she couldn’t help but to think if her mother were here she never would have been thrown from one school to another. Her life would have been so different. Then again, she may never had found herself at Hogwarts and she was really enjoying it there.
"What about your parents?" Verity asked. "What are they like?" She tilted her head ever so slightly and caught Celyn's eyes. They were blue, but not the washed out kind of blue like most people's eyes. Her eyes were so bright, so colorful, so easy to get lost in. For a moment, Verity wondered if Celyn's mum had eyes just like her too. She knew nothing about Celyn's family and she was suddenly curious.

The controlling type. Celyn was not a fan of boys who controlled their girlfriends, he should be trusting Verity, not forcing her away from guys. Besides, did he not realize that anyone has the potential to be a threat? If he wanted to keep verity all to himself he might as well forbid her from seeing anyone and Verity would most likely not agree to something petty like that. “Yes, maybe you should. They’re never worth it.” Well as far as she had seen, boys were not worth the fight. Celyn glanced at Verity’s eyes again very briefly and returned to looking up to the stars. “I’m sure they are jealous. You’re mother must have been a beautiful woman,” to have had you she silently added to herself. Celyn could only imagine what it was like to not have had a mother. Celyn’s parents have always been such a significant part of her life and the idea of losing them was unimaginable. How would she be able to explain how her mother was like? “Well I take a lot from my mom, except she’s blond. I got the brunette hair from my dad.” If she dyed her hair blond she would be the spitting image of her mom, but she wasn’t a blond and didn’t plan on becoming one anytime soon. “My parents were my first friends. They raised me, nurtured me, took care of me…” she shut her eyes, her smile was more gentle and less goofy than before. “They raised me among muggles, but told me to never forget that I was a little bit different. They showed me that I had to be careful and stay in control of my emotions, but to not shy away from what I wanted.” Her parents didn’t place restraints on her, they always said that she could do whatever it was she wanted as long as it felt right. “Look at me! I’m being sentimental for once!” Celyn never hid her emotions, but opening up like this was a first, maybe her friendship with Verity was a promising one.[/blockquote]

"Oh yes, she was very beautiful." Verity said. "Well, as beautiful as anyone with a Gringotts vault that never seemed to empty could be." Her family was old money, passed down from generation to generation...until Verity came along. She always knew her mother had been beautiful naturally. There were old photos that proved it. But as her mother aged, she did whatever it took to keep those looks. Apparently all it took was a lot of money and a wizard who knew his Potions.
"Raised among muggles?" Verity repeated. Wasn't that like being raised among wolves? Verity had never had many encounters with muggles. She didn't know much about them except that her parents and everyone her parents knew disapproved of their existence. She was raised to avoid muggles because they were obviously of far less importance than she was. She wasn't sure if she really agreed with it or not. Other than that small detail, Celyn seemed like she had a pretty good life. Verity admired how close she was to her parents although she could never imagine being friends with her own father. She had also never been taught control. Her emotions ran wild and crazy and a lot of the times it got her in a deep hole she couldn't get out of. Verity smiled and laughed some. She usually didn't talk about her family, especially her mother. Then again, she hadn't really had anyone to talk about it with until now.
Verity sat up and rested her elbows on the ground. "Alright, here it is then." Verity began as a wide grin spread across her lips. "I, Verity Bromley, am officially swearing off guys." She declared raising her right hand to her shoulder and attempting to balance with only one arm holding her up. It was such a relief to just say it, like a weight had been lifted off of her shoulders.

Celyn could only imagine how pretty Verity's mother must have been. Celyn's own mother was a beautiful women, but recently Celyn's little sister was stress factor which drained her mother. It was the only reason her mom didn't work anymore.
Verity's repeated her line and at that instant Celyn remembered that most purebloods weren't familiar with that world and hated it. "Muggles aren't so bad. In fact, they're so laid back enjoying life without a care in the world. Wizards are constantly thinking about hiding their existence going about life hidden." Celyn would have to take Verity to the muggle side of the world.
Celyn watched Verity raised up, she cleared her throat and mirrored Verity's position; she propped herself up on her elbows. "And I, Celyn Corvus, am officially swearing off guys." her right hand raised to her shoulder just as Verity did. "See, doesn't that just take the load off your shoulders? No more having to fend off the males 'dominant' ego." Celyn looked down to her hand then back to Verity a feeling of deep companionship forming.

"I guess I've never really been in the muggle world." Verity said. The only time she could remember it was when she had been dragged to a meeting her father had to go to in some building in London. Even then the only muggles she really saw were old men in suits. Needless to say it was a miserable experience.
Verity watched as Celyn made her pledge and giggled. This was so ridiculous, but so liberating. She was free! She felt like she should scream it to the world. She tilted her head back and laughed. When she brought her head back she was met instantly with Celyn's bright blue eyes. She fell silent as she took in how close they were. Before she could really question what she was doing, Verity leaned in and pressed her lips to Celyn's firmly. A shock of electricity shot through her and she pulled away, barely, and whispered, "Yeah, it really does." Nothing could have held more truth than that statement.
