"Dancing like that isn't just dancing," Leo said, continuing to walk. "And it never stops at dancing[/i]. Just because I don't like people doesn't mean I haven't been around them enough to know something like that." He wasn't going to let himself be lied to and hurt in the future, it was better to just get rid of the possibility now.

"Leo, will you just stop for a minute?" Verity said, her voice getting higher. "You're being ridiculous." She stepped in front of him and grabbed his arm again. "It meant nothing." She half expected him to slap her right there. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." She said desperately. "You have to believe me!!" Verity said, still pleading. "It's you that I want."

"Why should I believe you?" Leo said. "I don't have to do anything, I barely even know you. We've talked twice other than today, and you've done two things to tell me I shouldn't be around you." He wasn't going to put himself on the line. Maybe he was overreacting to a dance, but he always trusted his first impressions, and the one time he had turned back on them it had almost immediately bit him.

Verity moved her hand away quickly as if she had been burned and took a couple of steps back as if she had been hit. "So is that it?" She asked, hurt. "Two things, and that's all you can remember?" She was suddenly exhausted, and she definitely didn't want to be at a crowded fair. "Everything else doesn't matter?" Her eyes narrowed to hide the pain, but she immediately regretted it as a tear slid down the side of her face.
Verity didn't know what to do next. She didn't want it to end. "Leo, it was wrong what I did! But I never intended to hurt you. I was just dancing. If it's what you want, it won't happen again." She was talking, nearly hysterical. Her shoulders shook and tears flowed down her cheeks. "I'm sorry." She said once again. She couldn't make him stay, as much as she wanted to.

It might have been selfish of him, but Leo couldn't let himself deal with this. He didn't let people in and it had done him well. The first time he had gone back on that decision it had bit him in the butt. Crying really didn't do much for him. "Be sorry all you want," he said, then turned to leave again. He didn't want to put him up with something like this.

Verity stayed where she was. Her head was throbbing, the music was no longer working in her favor. She wasn't ready to give up or just let him walk away, but she didn't know what else to do. "What do you want me to say?" Verity demanded, taking a couple of steps towards again. If nothing else, she was stubborn. "I am sorry." She said again. "I don't want you to leave." Her voice grew softer. She had apologized, promised it wouldn't happen again. In just a couple of weeks, as much as she refused to admit it, she had let herself fall hard. Then in a matter of moments she had screwed it up. Wasn't there a way she could fix it?

Leo stopped and paused before turning back to face Verity. Did he really want to do this? Yes. He wanted to run, to close himself off again and write it off as a failed experiment. He wondered how much of his indecision showed in his eyes, how much she could tell. There was a sudden flash of memory from their dates and he had to look away. He didn't know what to say. It went against everything that was him to give her another chance, but he was no longer walking away.

Verity stood still for a moment, as if what she saw wasn't real and if she moved a muscle it would all evaporate and disappear in front of her eyes. He wasn't moving away and he was facing her, that was a start. She was afraid to speak, in case anything she said made this moment disappear as well. At least he was looking at her now. She started to get a little dizzy and that was when she noticed she was holding her breath. She exhaled slowly. She looked at him with wide, hopeful eyes. He was still standing there and that gave her hope.

Leo looked at her a moment later. "One more chance," he said, voice low. "Don't you dare make me regret it." He was such an idiot. He should not be doing this, he should turn around and walk out. It wasn't like he had any serious feelings for her, but it was starting to feel like he had to give her another chance.

Thank you. Verity said to herself silently while closing her eyes for a brief moment. She was nearly knocked over by a rush of sudden emotions. She was happy, and yet full of fear. Shocked, even though it was what she was hoping for. Relieved, but still incredibly on edge. She felt like jumping for joy, but she was exhausted. "No, I won't." She promised, stepping closer to him and shaking her head fiercely. She brushed his arm lightly letting her fingers trail down his arm. She laced her fingers with his. "Can we go somewhere else?" She asked softly. Away from the crowd, the music, the drama, everything.

As Leo linked his fingers in hers, he couldn't help but think that he was making a huge mistake. He should have gone with his first instincts. Both times. "Lead the way," he said, thinking of anything and everything to get his mind off of the fight going on in his mind between the part of him that wanted to stay with her and the much larger part that said he was an idiot.
